Bloody builders- aibu?

I live in a small terraced house & the house next door has been undergoing a complete gutting after being sold- this has been going on for 4 months now. During that time, we have had constant disruption, noise, dirt, a giant skip outside our window and scaffolding partly on our house.
This morning- saturday- there has been loud banging & drilling from builders which echoes through our house (after owner who lives elsewhere promised no weekend work) from 8.30am. This also happened most of last week during the week between xmas and new year.
I had a row with the builders this morning - I am a bit at the end of my tether with it all after months of disruption and noise- about them working on a saturday. He was really rude & has just carried on.
Aibu? I dont think its too much to ask that they dont disrupt our weekends- we have young kids and the people on the other side have a baby.

Surely your issue is with the owner and not the builders?

Can you contact the owner? Does he realise that the builders are working at the weekends? After all he is the one who made the promise.

But bloody builders yes thats very inconsiderate. Are they a company renovating the house or a private buyer? Either way they should have told you before hand of the type of work and expected duration. I think it's fine to tell them you understand the work needs to be done and you've put up with it for a while now (I'd even mention it affected your Christmas holidays) but now you'd like some rules on times and days of work. But you'd need to find out who owns the house and talk to them yourself.

Your neighbours with the baby, get them onside too. I'm sure they are loving it as much as you!

They are probably 'allowed' to work on Saturday mornings - Council planning (?) rules. Horrible, but not builders' fault

Owner has been very absent- I asked the builders to pass this on to the owner as met him once at the start. We had to go & introduce ourselves and negotiate with him- he hasnt even met the people on the other side. Its not been a positive experience!! Think I just lost it this morning with the builders

Re: the scaffolding - that's not right. They should not be allowed to encroach on your land without permission, AFAIK. They sound like they (owners) have shown no regard for you or desire to get you on side .

Look up your Council's website to check about Noise pollution, and party wall matters. also, whether any of the work required planning consent

I think Narp is right - contacting the council is the way to go if you can't contact the owner.

Withdraw your permission for the scaffolding on your house and contact the scaffolders if possible to remove it.

If it were agreed that there was to be no work on the weekends, then YANBU, especially as they started quite early. But tbh, you sound very intolerant of the whole thing, as if it would all piss you off no matter what they did. Last week was mostly a normal working week, there's no real reason why they shouldn't have worked.

Having builders in is a pretty normal thing, and it think you have to expect that you're going to have to put up with it occasionally if you live in a residential area, especially a terrace.

You owe the builders an apology. They are acting on behalf of the homeowner, who no doubt is putting them under pressure to finish, hence the weekend working. I doubt they need to be harrangued by the neighbours and would much rather be home with their families too.

If there was an agreement with the home owner not to have weekend work, was this in writing?

I do understand your frustration but it really isn't the builder's fault.

Just checked. Or (London) council allows noisy construction work 8am-1pm on Saturdays, but not Sundays or Bank Holidays. Your council may be the same, so no matter what he promised you, he may now be backing away from that.

it seems clear that the owner is either doing it up to sell on or rent out, so she really will not care about the neighbours and would rather have the building work done quickly.
