To think I spend money to replace my family

At least, according to DP I do.

We've just had a little argument about it, and although this comment hurt me I am willing to concede he might have a point.

Christmas is so tough for me and I end up spending too much and over compensating.

Can anyone empathise? And how does one stop?

Do you mean you overspend on the children because you haven't got family? I lost both parents young and definitely do this. I had some rubbish christmases as a teen and want my dc's to only remember wonderful ones, although I was much better this year and we were much more frugal but still had a wonderful time.

I do this my children don't have grandparents so I feel I over compensate. My husband also does this in other ways as his dad was flaky. We have very secure loved children who are very happy. I've learnt to tone it down but it's taken time to do this.
