In ridiculously sad excited. I got given an Instant Pot Duo 60 for Christmas and it is utterly fantastic!

I cooked a cheesecake in 25 minutes. It's delicious. Then I pot roasted a 2kg joint of beef in 45 minutes -beautifully tender and still just ever so slightly rare in the middle.

I am very tempted. I could take it away in the caravan and use it there as well!

HemanOrSheRa · 04/01/2016 23:08

Gobbolino I got my email at 6.45pm. They are working around the clock Grin.

lougle · 04/01/2016 23:29

WTFIS there are a few people on the FB group that use them in their 'RVs' - I think that's an American term for caravan Grin

In spite of my decision to not buy any more kitchen gadgets I have just ordered one. I justified to to myself by thinking I can get rid of the slow cooker and steamer.

I am genuinely really excited a loser how long did other people's take to arrive?

witsender · 05/01/2016 11:49

I'm still dithering. Is it one of those things that you actually 'need' if you do all home cooking/from scratch or can you use other things? Like the oven etc. Is the advantage time savings? Energy consumption?

lougle · 05/01/2016 12:08

Time and energy consumption.

So, thanks guys, I'm another one who's going to SQUEEEE at the delivery guy arriving with my instant pot later today Grin

But what shall I cook first??

user7755 · 05/01/2016 12:25

Snoot, when did you order it?

witsender · 05/01/2016 12:33

Ok, so this week I am doing tomato/veg soup, roast chicken, chicken breast, chilli, chicken pie, spag bol...for example. What out of those could I cook in it and how long would it take?!

lougle · 05/01/2016 12:35

You could do all of those in it. The actual pie would have to go in the oven for the pastry, but the filing could be IP'd

Haven't read the thread, but YANBU. I've had my Instant Pot for about 6 months now and I am obsessed. Obsessed. I can put something on, leave the house to walk the dog or go to the shops, and come back to a cooked meal, without worrying about anything burning or the house blowing up or any of the usual shit I worry about. That's a special kind of magic right there.

SnootBoop · 05/01/2016 13:07

Ordered yesterday with Amazon prime before I realised there's a code Blush

Now impatient to use it!

lougle · 05/01/2016 13:23

You'll love it, snoot. It will be worth it.

I ordered from the company, Lougle ought to get free stuff from them for this thread!

lougle · 05/01/2016 14:23

Ha! Then I would be in trouble Grin

I'll be happy as long as you all have a great time cooking delicious foods.

firesidechat · 05/01/2016 15:22

Never heard of these before this thread, but I've just looked it up on Amazon and may need to convince my husband that it's essential to our lives.

One question - could this replace my slow cooker? Space for more kitchen tech is an issue.

glitterbomb80 · 05/01/2016 15:36

firesidechat indeed it could, there is a slow cooker option, as well as pressure cooking, sauteing, rice cooking... the only thing it doesn't do it the dishes!

lougle · 05/01/2016 16:07

firesidechat yes! It can replace frying pan, saucepan, rice cooker, steamer, yoghurt maker and to a large extent (but not completely) oven.

Just to had I've had my IP for 18 months and am advertorial style as evangelical about it as the OP. I love it and use it almost daily, I'm a veggie and it is the best thing for dried beans and pulses. It's virtually silent and a doodle to use, it was the fact it's silent that made me get it rather than a regular stove top PC. I thought at first it would just be for dried pulses and eventually gather dust but I really wouldn't be without it. It is on my "things to save in a house fire" list after kids and pets!

bestcatintheworld · 05/01/2016 16:35

I too ordered one with Amazon Prime before I saw the code Blush but luckily they screwed up and didn't deliver in time so I cancelled and re-ordered from Instantpot directly. Thanks so much for the code! Mine has been dispatched and I am now eagerly awaiting it.

I bet Instantpot won't know what's hit them, they were probably expecting a January slump Grin

I would be most grateful for anyone posting, or directing me to, veggie recipes. Maybe we should start a thread for all the newbies outside of AIBU?

lougle · 05/01/2016 16:58

So tonight is sweet and sour chicken night. I had a text message asking me to work a night shift tonight as overtime (nurse) so I need to get dinner done so I can rest a bit before I head out.

I've just diced an onion and a pepper, then sweated them off in the Instant Pot with the sauté function.

Then I added 3 diced chicken breasts and half a pint of chicken stock. I've put that on for 15 minutes on Poultry. As there is only half a pint of stock, the pot was already hot when the stock went in and the stock was made with boiling water, it's come up to pressure within 5 minutes and the timer now says 12 minutes.

After the cook phase finishes, I'll add pineapple, pineapple juice, vinegar, soy sauce and sugar. Then I'll give it 5 minutes on manual. At the end I'll use quick release to reduce the pressure and open the pot, turn on sauté function and thicken with cornflour.

Meanwhile, pot two will cook rice.

bestcat welcome to the best club! I don't think they are having a slump, tbh: when I joined the Facebook group before Christmas in anticipation, there were just short of 23,000 members. Now, three weeks later, there are 28,000 members!

That's the sort of recipe that throws me (sounds yum BTW)... Is it any quicker than just on the hob?

Naicecuppatea · 05/01/2016 17:07

I am doing a veggie chili in mine tonight....will let you know how it turns out!

lougle · 05/01/2016 17:16

It's quicker because I'm not having to stand at the stove cooking it. I've just cut some veg, diced some chicken and thrown it into the pot. Tbh,I could probably have just put the whole lot in the pot for 15 minutes so it's a two step recipe, but as I'm new to it I thought I'd do it in stages (because I get to play Blush)
