AIBU to think my throat should be feeling better not worse?

I woke up on Monday with a sore throat. Every day I've hoped it would improve but today its even worse!

Losing track of the nurofen /paracetamol /throat losengers I'm getting through.

Im about to gargle with salt water which always makes me throw up but I'm desperate. I can't eat or drink hot drinks. Im literally sipping water.

Any advice greatly appreciated!

Have you tried gargling with soluble aspirin? That sometimes helps me when I have throat infections. And sipping warm water. And those sprays you can get. You have my sympathy, sore throats are nasty.

Difflam.

Magic stuff! Can you get to a late night chemist?

RandomMess · 31/12/2015 20:51

Yep the sore throat spray that numbs it and gargling with soluble aspirin is amazing, really really helps.

Poor you!

Probably not helpful if the salt gargle makes you sick but last time I had a throat infection, wanting to avoid antibx as ttc, I used a 'natural' remedy that really worked! Ground up garlic mixed with honey and cayenne pepper spread onto the affected area every hour or two. Not pleasant but definitely helped!

Thanks. I tried to sleep but the pain wakes me. I have Asprin in the house. I will see i can find a chemist open tomorrow.

I know I sound like a moany baby but its so painful. Ive given birth with no pain relief but this is driving me nuts!

Thankyou for the replies.

Happy New Year.

Go to your GP. It could be strep throat which I gad twice last year and was bloody AGONY. You may need antibiotics. Ouch. Poor you. Happy new year.

Gargle with diluted TCP? At least - if u do this just before going to bed - it should stop the bacteria multiplying in your throat overnight.

There are some horrendous bugs around this winter. I went down with a horrible cold, chest, throat and double ear infection on 19 December and I am still ill. A course of amoxillin made no difference at all. I blame the flu jab. I've never had a jab before this year, and this year I seem unable to throw anything off, whereas normally my resistance is, well, normal. They pretty much threw the jab at me at the gp surgery, when I was there for something unrelated, even though I didn't make a separate jab appointment. I was on the list for the jab because I have a repeat asthma inhaler prescription. I shan't be having it again!
