UGGS ughghghghghgh

I thought Uggs had gone away, but they are back with a vengeance. My DD 13 yo spent most of her xmas money on a pair, on sale, and although, as she pointed out to me over and over that it was her money, I am still seething. I don't get the point. They are completely unsuitable for our climate, far too expensive, not even very comfortable, with no arch support etc. Also they are, stating the obvious, hideous. She could have got at least two pairs of weather-appropriate, pretty boots which she could actually wear. Her defense: they are fluffy and everybody has them.

Apple, I wear the ones I linked to everywhere. They are nothing like slippers. They're heavy, chunky and furry and more of a waxed leather effect

FarrowAndBallache · 31/12/2015 19:09

I love my uggs.
Great for shoving on to do the school run or nipping to the supermarket.

Couldn't give a toss if people don't like them Smile

IonaNE · 31/12/2015 19:11

I wish I could afford real Uggs - I have a pair of £15 Tesco fakes, but up to now even those have not done the ankle thing either. I don't think I shuffle in them and not everyone needs arch support. In the UK from about March to October the majority of women wear "ballet-pumps" and those don't have arch support either.

BessieBlount · 31/12/2015 19:15

Excuse my split infinitive. I do not link to them everywhere. I am not an ugg guru.

shebird · 31/12/2015 19:52

Slag wellies Grin

FanFuckingTastic · 31/12/2015 19:55

I wear sheepskin boots all the time, which is what I assume UGGs are?

They are pretty good for Raynaud's Syndrome, as they keep the feet warm. I wear mine year round to avoid getting chilblains on my feet.

SanityClause · 31/12/2015 20:05

I hate Uggs. As an Australian, to me, they are deeply uncool, because my mother, never stylishly dressed at the best of times, wore them as slippers.

However, when DD2 wanted them, at about 11, I bought her some.

They need to work out their own taste.

(Incidentally, DD2 at 14 would now not be seen dead in Uggs.)

Andylion · 31/12/2015 20:15

And I thought Uggs were unsuitable for Canadian winters because they didn't keep your feet warm? Where did I get that idea? (I love my Sorels, bought at MEC. Also, I am proud to be Canadian. At least since the last election.)

Krampus · 31/12/2015 20:19

Uggs are just a brand with many different styles and materials..

Kanga59 · 31/12/2015 20:23

I used to think that Iggy's looked hideous and stupid and couldn't possibly be worth the money - just for showy types. That is until I got a pair. Totally converted now. Warm, comfy, look good. WHat more could I want!

BolshierAryaStark · 31/12/2015 20:25

I dislike the original 'slipper' type Uggs but love mine which are leather with a chunky sole & can be worn in any weather. They are the comfiest pair of boots I've ever owned & also the cosiest.
Sounds like you may have slightly spoilt her enjoyment of her purchase.

MooseTrap · 31/12/2015 20:29

There was a huge queue outside the the Uggs Store near Piccadilly Circus the other day. DD1 was acting horrified at the thought people would actually queer to buy them until DD2 reassured her that the people were probably queueing to return unwanted presents [winks] Hmm

girlguide123 · 31/12/2015 20:30

ooh aeroflotgirl - horrifyingly, I find I like those ankle boots with the wedge heel! what have you done?? Xmas Grin

girlguide123 · 31/12/2015 20:40

Aeroflotgirl · 31/12/2015 21:03

I want the Ugg Simmens but I am broke Sad

Ditsy4 · 31/12/2015 21:29

You can spray a repellant on them. I don't wear my outside if it's raining but otherwise they're great. I've worn them 40years never have a problem. People that walk on the inside don't walk correctly.Never remember anyone I knew in Aus doing that but my daughter did.

Jw35 · 31/12/2015 22:08

I think they look crap on most people. As do crocs, onsies and caps. Like most fashion must haves they're ok for kids! Couldn't justify the price though, I don't often buy brand names unless there's a significant difference in quality.

monkeyfacegrace · 31/12/2015 22:31

How do you all make them last so long?
I get through a pair per year, but I wear them day in, day out. They get swapped for wellies on dog walks, otherwise they are worn.
The soles die.

knobblyknee · 31/12/2015 22:37

Suede Protector - its a spray in a can from the shoe shop/dept store, about £8 and worth every penny. Apply 3 coats and suede will look like new for a year Smile

nocakes · 31/12/2015 22:46

Two words - plantar fasciitis.....very painful! Speaking from (ongoing) experience and Uggs defo going to charity shop. Oh the relief of a shoe with a heel!

imwithspud · 31/12/2015 22:56

Ahhh leave her to it, it's her money. You have to let them develop their own style and make their own mistakes. We've all been there!

I got Emu boots for Christmas which are fab but before them I had Uggs which have lasted me a good 4 years and although compared to my new boots they are looking a bit tired, I still have them and could probably get more wear out of them so I'm keeping them just in case. I don't really care if other people think they're ugly, we all have different tastes and they're comfortable.

Industrialhelicopter · 01/01/2016 00:03

My DD lives in UGGS and has down for past 5 years. i think they are great value as they last forever if protected well at the start. We buy in the USA so £80-100 a pair

Crazypetlady · 01/01/2016 01:25

notso
At least your dd has good makeup taste.

AfroPuffs · 01/01/2016 01:35

Ive had the same pair of Uggs for 10yrs now. They are still going strong! I walk properly in them so the shape is exactly the same. Very warm and comfy when im out and about. Love them!
