To think this has got to be the worst year ever for Christmas TV?

I honestly can't believe how bad it's been.

Luther was good but it was all done before Christmas. Sherlock isn't on under New Year's Day. Not Going Out was abominable, a real disappointment.

Eastenders from 2 nights ago was fantastic but apart from that and a documentary about Peter Kay it's been really, really terrible.

I have no idea what was or wasn't on because The Test Match was - all the time!!!!

But I did watch and enjoy And then there were none 😄

Sparklingbrook · 31/12/2015 16:27

Oh I thoroughly enjoyed Inbetweeners 2. Blush Grin

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 31/12/2015 16:29

Oh it was dire I think I only watched doctor who which I love anyway, stick man and then there were none. I tried Dickensian.

I don't watch much tv but I normally enjoy the Christmas schedule there was nothing this year. But the radio was worse there was nothing.

KurriKurri · 31/12/2015 16:35

The only things I have wanted to watch have all clashed.

I watched Then there were none - but last episode clashed with a ghost huntery drama thing with Rafe Spall in it on ITV.

I watched Charlie Brooker last night but it clashed with a David Attenborough programme I also wanted to see.

There was programme about male ballet dancers presented by Darcey Bussell which was quite good if you like dance.

That's about it really - is Dickensian worth watching?

Sparklingbrook · 31/12/2015 16:36

I have just watched something on catch up with Russell Howard, Neil Morrisey, Greg Davies and Keith Chegwin in which was funny but odd.

Ragwort · 31/12/2015 16:37

I've enjoyed it - partly because I am home alone (by choice - the rest of the family are skiing) - so I can choose what I want, when I want, without endless 'compromising' - thoroughly enjoyed it - always found at least one thing to watch each night - which is enough. Smile

TwatTheNinja · 31/12/2015 16:39

YANBU
I really didn't see any Christmas TV,

I don't watch soaps or downtown, so look forward to festive films and one offs, yet I couldn't fine anything, I didn't even see Elf on any of the channels.

I did stumble across Terry Pratchett's The Hog Father, on Pick TV the other day though, and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Sallystyle · 31/12/2015 16:41

Tonight is even worse.

No Eastenders either.. Just Mrs Brown's Boys.

TwatTheNinja · 31/12/2015 16:41

We've recorded Dickensian, but not sure we will watch it, we couldn't seem to get into the first episode.

Sparklingbrook · 31/12/2015 16:49

It seems Mrs Brown's Boys has been on every single night.

TheWitTank · 31/12/2015 16:54

YANBU it's been shit. The only thing I've watched Christmas special wise is the Battersea Dogs Home with POG (one of our dogs was adopted from there). Nothing else has taken my fancy. I've watched a few films on Netflix/Now TV though. To be honest, we have been so busy in and out anyway, we haven't had a lot of time for TV.

littlemermaid80 · 31/12/2015 16:59

Enjoyed the nation's favourite Disney songs!
We're going to watch Wreck It Ralph tomorrow, looking forward to snuggling up with popcorn. Then Sherlock tomorrow evening.
Apart from those it's been disappointing imo.

Sparklycat · 31/12/2015 17:01

Agreed! Hardly anything 'Christmassy' and hardly any specials either. Rubbish tv!

BugritAndTidyup · 31/12/2015 17:05

Nope, YANBU. Fuck all on, and no Christmas ghost story. I love getting the Radio Times every year, but when I read it this year, pen poised at the ready, I deflated faster than a balloon at a porcupine orgy.

And Then There Was None almost made up for it. Almost.

But a PP mentioned Sherlock not being on: I thought there was an episode on tomorrow, relocated to Victorian times.

Really must dig out the RT soon, check if I've missed anything, but yes, was a bit rubbish overall.

InQuiteAChristmasPickle · 31/12/2015 17:08

YANBU it's been awful!

I must admit that I've watched a lot of Christmas movies but only on Sky, other than that it's been crap!

The only thing that was a bit festive was Text Santa but that's too sad to be completely Christmassy.

SinglePringle · 31/12/2015 17:09

As an aside - has Luther finished? I can only find 2 eps on Iplayer and the second one didn't conclude the story (did it Confused?)

BugritAndTidyup · 31/12/2015 17:09

Sorry, I'm a thicko. The Sherlock thing was an autocorrect confusion.

I did watch the Midsomer Murders episode. Despite having seen it multiple times and knowing exactly who the killer is. Blush

LuluJakey1 · 31/12/2015 17:11

Dad's Army Biopic was great, as was 'Then There Were None' and 'Harry Price Ghost Hunter', Downton aws a load of old toot but clothes were beautiful and ends tied up nicely. Nothing else worth watching.

Raxacoricofallapatorius · 31/12/2015 17:11

Dr Who
Sherlock
And Then There Were None
Harry Price
Downtown
Call The Midwife
Stick Man

That was about it. Or will be after tomorrow. I watched QI, WILTY, 8/10 Cats etc too.

Only Connect and Mastermind and University Challenge were entertaining but not really Christmas biggies are they?

TheOnlyPink · 31/12/2015 17:13

Yanbu, there was fuck all on. Downton was ok, call the midwife (which I usually adore) was long and drawn out. I was so disappointed that the Stella Christmas special was a repeat. There wasn't any other Christmas specials that I could see...
I tried Dickensian, didn't really like it, even though it looked right up my street.

I did enjoy the David walliams and Joanna lumley show, stick man, inside Lego at Christmas. Can't think of anything else.

Sparklingbrook · 31/12/2015 17:14

Jack Whitehall and his dad had a show. Guests were Victoria Coren Mitchell and Rob Brydon. All good. Except then Lady Colin Campbell appeared. Hmm

TheBestChocolateIsFree · 31/12/2015 17:17

I agree that Hogfather on free TV was a nice Xmas treat - a repeat but new to us because we don't have sky.

StickyToffeePuddingAndCustard · 31/12/2015 17:17

Luther...

That's it really.

YADNBU OP.

Topseyt · 31/12/2015 17:34

You aren't wrong at all OP. I can't remember such a load of total shite on TV over Christmas for many years. It was very disappointing.

Perhaps I am just looking back with rose tinted spectacles, but when I was growing up in the seventies and eighties we only had first three and then four channels. Each Christmas though was always special, and a real festival of television. Some of those, such as the Morecambe and Wise specials still get shown at times today. I have fond memories of those days.

I can usually find stuff I do want to watch at Christmas, but this year was very uninspiring. The Shawshank Redemption seems to have been shown multiple times, likewise Bridgit Jones etc.

We took to Netflix and Amazon, and also watched some DVDs of the old Blackadder classics. Gave up on the TV.

abigamarone · 31/12/2015 17:35

The jack Whitehall /dad chat back thing had the funniest 10 minutes of tv I've seen all year - 45 minutes in, the guest is a top youtube vlogger, trying to explain what he does.
