Spying through whatsapp

Not sure where to post this but can someone listen in to your phone calls through whatsapp ?

John, from what I can see spy apps don't enable you to snoop in real time but access cloud backups.

Yes but phone conversations are not uploaded to the cloud...?

It is some years ago now but when my ex left I had a sense of him knowing too much about where I had been etc. With time, I realised he was regularly driving past the house, was going through my bins and recycling (bins were kept at the front of the house) and when I got his bank statements through it was clear he had been following me further afield - purchases made gave this away. I have no idea what he was looking for but letting him know through my solicitor that I was aware and would report to the police as harassment see me d to stop it.

Get a new phone and just be aware of what is going on around you. I bet your gut instinct is right. X

Showing online could just be a coincidence? Especially considering that it's the holidays and a particularly social time when apps like whatsapp are used a lot.

In particular, check your location settings and enable two factor authentication for your email accounts and anything else you can, then change the password. And as people have said, back up your photos and things like that then do a factory reset (do not do a full restore from that backup!)

Spying on a phone and listening into to calls are two completely different things.
It is possible to spy on a phone, although difficult to do and fairly easy to find out if that's happening.
That's not the same as listening into a call.

Calls are not recorded and uploaded to the cloud.

Using WhatsApp to spy on your calls? No. As others have said, it is very secure, which is why some governments ban it.

However, that doesn't mean that your husband hasn't installed other spy software on your phone, which could be perfectly capable of recording your phone calls, location, or other actions, and sending those to him (perhaps using WhatsApp, Email, upload to the cloud, or any other data transfer method).

This is why posters above are suggesting you either wipe your phone (factory reset) or get a new one.

Do you have any actual evidence that he knows information that he could have got only by listening in to your calls? If it's just the online status in WhatsApp, then that's not a lot to go on. Perhaps make a phone call and say some falsehoods (like you're leaving the country, remarrying, pregnant) and see if he reacts!
