The one where she has her son help with the shopping and can't string a sentence together/ bumps into son and tries to hide the fact she's having a NYE party. Surely I cannot be alone in thinking these are pretty shyt and annoying!!! Shock

The Anchor butter one is my favourite Christmas advert this year.

Horsemad · 29/12/2015 09:35

That is sweet Janeymoo!

00100001 · 29/12/2015 09:35

The worst advert at the moment is the All4/Chromecast advert.

It's SHIT

ShebaQueen · 29/12/2015 10:07

Ah Janey the Anchor one is my favourite too!

Jojoanna · 29/12/2015 10:19

Hate the tesco ad. Why is the son portrayed so dim? Don't get it.
Love the co op ad

MackerelOfFact · 29/12/2015 10:31

Oh god, the volly vuleys. Just IMBECILIC.

If someone came across the word 'vol au vents' who had never previously encountered it, they could be forgiven for pronouncing it 'volloo venns' or something; in other words phonetic English pronunciation.

But the scriptwriters couldn't even get their heads around that. ARGH.

ALSO IT'S NOT 1973 SO NOBODY IS IMPRESSED BY A SHOP THAT SELLS FROZEN VOL AU VENTS.

BreakingDad77 · 29/12/2015 10:31

I wasn't sure to begin with that they were playing themselves or a faux family.

Thornrose · 29/12/2015 10:51

It's so awful I didn't even realise it was Ruth Jones until now! Shock They are way off the mark with those ads.

(I agree about the Iceland sourdough pizzas they are lovely. The one with Calabrian sausage is the best.)

gruffaloshmuffalo · 29/12/2015 11:20

The co-op one is lovely

coffeeisnectar · 29/12/2015 11:29

I love the Tesco ads, I think they are funny.

But clearly I'm in a minority of one so shall take myself off to the naughty step and think about my behaviour.

Apologies for letting the side down.

JoffreyBaratheon · 29/12/2015 12:05

She is second only in awfulness to James Corden, to me, so I just see her and switch off. A very bad move on Tesco's part - trying to revive the 'comedy family' ads they did at the height of their success. People go to Aldis in their droves because it's cheap and their funny, silly ads hit the nail on the head. More fail for Tesco if they can't even get the ads right.

They should pull the whole thing and find a new ad agency.

TheFirstNoelHeadbands · 29/12/2015 12:10

Thing is, Tesco had great Xmas ads a couple of years ago- when all the others were doing glitzy, aspirational 'perfect' Xmas type ones, theirs were just ordinary snapshots (normal looking families at the table with mis matched emergency chairs etc) accompanied by snippets of pop/rock music.

WHY they've gone back to cheesy shit I don't know

00100001 · 29/12/2015 12:37

coffee the Tesco ads actually are potentially funny. They're just poorly acted, so not funny :(

The potential is there! Parents being caught having a party without son. Son trying (And failing) to impress a lady. Gluten Free lightbulbs etc.

Funny stuff.

Poorly delivered!

Owllady · 29/12/2015 12:47

I love the co-op advert too
We all went
ahhhhhh

squidgyapple · 29/12/2015 12:49

Not convinced they are even potentially funny - are you the scriptwriter 001000001?

And who goes food shopping as a couple accompanied by their adult son?

Buxtonstill · 29/12/2015 12:52

I would like to punch all three of them.

NameChanger22 · 29/12/2015 12:59

Well, you're all talking about them, so I guess the adverts have worked. I couldn't tell you what the Sainsburys, Morrisons or Waitrose adverts are this year. I think sometimes companies do terrible adverts on purpose to get noticed.

I agree, the grown-up boy is annoying; and why did he massage his dad's shoulders with a creepy look on his face. Weird.

TheFirstNoelHeadbands · 29/12/2015 13:02

Never mind the dad massaging, what about the son shushing his mum with his finger on her lips- UGH!

00100001 · 29/12/2015 13:08

squidgy If I was, I'd be too embarrassed to admit it Grin

I wonder who cast that son... it's craziness!

SwedishEdith · 29/12/2015 13:10

The "son" probably works for the advertising agency and had to step in at short notice when the original actor said "No fucking way" when he actually read the script.

absolutelynotfabulous · 29/12/2015 14:00

I just don't get ads these days. I don't see any connection between the product and the ad. In the old days (insert old codger emoticon here) at least you knew what was being advertised, and remembered the product. But now? Bears going "home" to a forest? Men in the moon? Groceries left on doorstep? Luvved-up penguins?

I can remember the ads ok, but I'm buggered if I can remember what the point of them is...

JessieMcJessie · 29/12/2015 15:28

People said the same about Jane Horrocks, that she'd compromised her artistic credibility by advertising Tesco. Then I read an interview with her when she said that her house was known affectionately by her family as "Tesco Towers" because the ads had pretty much paid for the whole place. Tesco pay WELL.

I love Ruth Jones and think the ads are shit but don't blame her for following the money. Probably easier to keeping your trap shut about the rubbish scripts than to interfere and risk losing the gig. She'll be laughing all the way to the bank.

(Also saw her on Would I lie to You the other day and she was looking really great).

louisatwo · 29/12/2015 16:09

Thank heavens to find like minded people. We just assumed that this was passed by a tediously dim male advertising agency and a typically male management team at Tescos. How on earth anyone thought that this represented the 'core values' of the company? Completely crap advertising for all the reasons upthread ^!

Namechangedec15 · 29/12/2015 16:23

Considering the intelligence of the average person on the street, these tesco adverts were supposedly tested on people who found them hallarious.

Not as bad as the s Osborne asda ones.

I did like the spice girls tesco one, seeing posh push a trolley. Hilarious.

Botchit · 29/12/2015 16:34

It seems I am alone, but I have really enjoyed the ads. I hadn't clicked it was Ruth Jones though!
