to not get the Irish Fair Door concept? *lighthearted*

Ok I think I've pickled my brain over Christmas cos I can't get my head around how this is meant to work! DD got one of these little sets for Christmas, she is beyond excited, we have stuck the door to the wall, left the key out, chosen the fairy name and registered online...but DD is asking how the fairy will get in & out of the little door cos it's stuck to the wall! Is this fairy meant to be using this door to gain entrance to the house & live with us or is it meant to be like a portal to their fairy world that closes during the day?! I don't get it!

It's like a portal, I think, fairy is magic & comes & goes thru the door when everyone is in bed asleep
They like easins as treats & if u leave them
Out the odd night the fairy takes them.
If u find loose feathers around the house this is ur fairy loosing old wings when she grows new ones
It's a bit like a year round elf on the shelf, I always forget about ours & easins can sit there for a couple of days!!

Ok yes so this is what I was thinking, it's like a portal that opens up from fairy land into our home every night...so then the fairy lives with us at night but returns into its home in the wall during the day? Am I over-thinking this?! DD is only 4 but kept pushing: 'but how will the fairy get in cos the door is stuck to the wall!' I feel like shouting: 'stop asking me questions I can't answer and simply believe, child!!'

put a little bit of fairy dust glitter on the floor in front of the door when she is sleeping and tell her that a fairy must have came through the door in the middle of the night.

My DD loves hers. she leaves food out for them at night and in the morning the food has gone!!! Sometimes the fairies even leave notes or gifts (a sparkly stone or the like). Lots of fairy activity in our house!

I LOVE the Irish fairy Doors! I stuck it up in my child's room when he was asleep and let him find it himself.

Our Fairy gets up to all sorts- she is in charge of setting up all the snowdrops in Spring with a bit of moonlighting for Santa over Christmas.
They write to each other all the time-Have you made a garden for your fairy yet? (shoe box lid/painted stones/crepe paper+me=Pintrest fail! )

It's like Elf on the Shelf but endless. Kill me. Why do people do this shit?!

Yeah, I've been sucked into this shit wonder too. DD is 5 and got a gift voucher for a local toy shop for her birthday, so got one of these things. Tbh, other than the idiocy I've brought on myself, it's not that much work, all we do is a bedtime update from DD to her fairy, and the odd note fairy sends, no more than one a week, depending in when I remember to send them. DD was beside herself with excitement when well briefed Santa at dh's office party name checked her fairy.

To answer the door question, the fairy took the key so s/he can access fairy land through the door, which is definitely a portal and not the most expensive bit of ply wood ever
