Online, in the sales without leaving the comfort of my sofa?

Bargains include:

Half price Playmobil from Boots
Half price handbags and make up brushes from Debenhams
Half price VTech toys at Debenhams and some Disney stuff too
30/50% of jumpers from M&S
Massively discounted smellies from Tesco

And now I feel incredibly smug with my bargains, plus I remembered to use quidco Xmas Smile

Has anyone else done the same or am I the only mad one?

Another one here who cant do this as the DC change massively with regards to what they're "into" by the month!

I will get stocking fillers though through the year..definitely.

Yabu. I haven't bought most of this year's Christmas presents yet (not seeing my family until the weekend, might go shopping today)
I don't like to buy gifts until as late as possible and I try and listen out in the weeks before for clues as to what people actually want.
Plus what if the clothes don't fit or the items are defective in some way when you open them? Bit late to do returns.

I haven't finished wrapping this years presents as we have a family get together on 30th and friends on 31st. No way I can think of next year!

The playmobil is for 3-6 year olds and they love the stuff so that was a great bargain.

For the adults, I did choose carefully as in "oh x would love that" and because they presents are half price they are getting a great present. I didn't just by tat thinking "oh that will do". I always like to choose something nice and hope the recipient will appreciate the gift

YABU, gifts purchased because they are cheap basically.

I've never been able to do this. My do change so much. They won't even buy clothes bought in previews cheaply.

I bought pjs from the elves and Xmas socks and pants from new look, top man and top shop for stockings. I'm reasonably confident my DC won't change size significantly as they are practically grown up. It's not a big saving in the scheme of things but still somehow satisfying! I don't do big presents but I do buy stocking fillers as I see them all year, sometimes as a saving and sometimes because something is perfect.

No I haven't but well done you.I think it's a great idea.

I am planning on picking up some crackers, wrapping paper, gift bags, gift tags and Christmas cards today.Should hopefully save me a bit of money for next christmas I hope.

I've also decided today that I'm going to stick some money on some supermarket saving cards towards next Christmas as well.I was thinking of sticking on £10 a week.

And thanks for the reminder about Quidco I joined them a while ago and bloody forgot to use them for Christmas.Xmas Smile

I've heard people do this for upcoming birthdays, but I've never heard about someone buying Xmas presents a year in advance!

No, too much can change.

Apart from the obvious kids tastes, adults can change size quite a lot or get pregnant etc in a year which would make jumpers bought now pretty useless

I am impressed with you op. They're your relatives, I'm sure you'll know whether they'll be appreciated or not. Very sensinle to this if you're on a budget. I stock up my present drawer in the sales-all the birthdays up to march so far. I don't do xmas yet-i do that in the summer sales, but mainly little extras because I get more specific requests for then and I haven't got storage.
You feel like a job well done op and there's nothinh wrong with that.
Mnet never used to be this aggressively anti ops, 10 years ago people would have just mildly taken the piss!

The only thing I buy in the sales are the reduced mince pies and Christmas puddings.

Does anyone really want gift sets? Isn't that the sort of thing you get for secret Santa?

I'd love to do this, for birthday presents at least, but I'm always skint after Christmas. I should probably plan my budget a bit more carefully so I'm not having to buy everything end of November/beginning of December and thus, have no money left over for Jan sales.

Good on you for being so organised and on top of things.

There's no need for the tutting put downs on here, ignore them OP.

Our family always buys wrapping paper, Christmas cards and crackers after Christmas when it is super cheap.

But I think buying presents that far in advance is a bit Hmm sorry op
Unless as people have said it's someone's favourite brand, or you have a whole troupe of children and playmobile can be given to whichever would enjoy it most when Christmas comes around again.

To me part of the joy of Christmas is choosing things for my family. it sounds as if your presents are maybe not specifically chosen for a particular person, but each to their own

My thoughts were the same as medented's. I'm all for buying a few bargains in advance (cards paper etc, plus the odd gifty bit) but I have found when I buy to much too far ahead when the time comes you realise it doesn't seem as nice or appropriate for the receiver after all and end up buying again therefore not saving but spending more. Ok for some bits but would advise against going too crazy.

Not something I could do, nor would I want to really.

Lots can change in a year. Even for some adults and some nearly adult children.

Horses for courses I guess, but for me it would just feel wrong. I have enough junk around my house (the traditional New Year clear out beckons soon). I don't want to add more.

I'm with the majority. I just don't think it's possible to predict what people will appreciate most a year in advance. Especially children. And how much money have you actually saved in real terms?? I'm guessing no more than you could save pretty easily through the year

Tbh I think it's weird
Buying stuff because it's cheap ..... The tastes may change , they might put on 2 stone between now and next christmas so jumpers don't fit .... It just seems like you've filled up your basket because it's going cheap
Would you have bought the items had they have been full price ...... No didn't think so .... That's what I mean ..... Bought because it's cut price

Of my children is a tween who changes her mind about what she wants. My son has HFA and his fixations change. So I just put away money every week now to buy their presents.
