AIBU?

To wonder if I'm ever going to get a bloody Christmas dinner?

At DP's Dad's in East London for Christmas. It's been lovely, loads of family and friends calling in, more booze than the local pub stocks, anything you want.

Christmas dinner been on since about 9. Things have been ready in that time and been taken out to 'go back in at the end'.

But when is the end?!! I'm so hungry that when we ran out of tonic water I legged it to the offy and had a secret packet of crisps on the way back. We had a croissant at 10 and nothing since then.

I'm smashed and bleeding hungry! They've just busted open a keg so I'm not sure dinner is going to happen at all.

There's a baby here who has a rusk. I'm eyeing that up right now. I don't think she'd put up much of a fight, but she has slobbered on it.

My mum used to take hours and hours to cook a roast dinner. Started around 8 am and we ate about 3.

There was a lot of "going back in at the end" too. I reckon they must cook the whole thing about 3 times and that's why it takes so long. Also lots of plates in warming drawers and such like.

I started ours at 3.30, starters at 4, mains at quarter past.

You lovely mumsnetters, I'd have been well full of dinner by now if I'd nipped into you!

The baby has an Elsa chocolate tree decoration, (she's a bloody eighteen month old genius, she sneaked it in her nappy bag) and I made friends with the baby and she shared it with me Xmas Wink

Dinner will be in an hour 'or so'.

I guess you're right. Wouldn't have thought he was sweet enough for a dessert though.

Perhaps something major is going on on another forum somewhere and they're all agog, pressing F5 repeatedly while the dinner is being ruined.

I'm glad that has never ever happened on Mumsnet.

DH has just called me to come downstairs to have a cup of tea with the ILs and to play another game of charades. I have yelled back 'Hang on... I have to see if my MN buddy has eaten dinner yet'.

Oh good grief, I can't abide faff!

Our turkey was in the oven at 8am, lunch was on the table by one and all the leftovers processed and in the fridge by 3.

Surely it's all going to be dry and rank and possibly give you food poisoning by the time it's just gone in at the end enough times!

oh you poor thing - did you think this was a midday meal and it's turned out to be an evening one? Whether it was planned that way or not.

If you'd known you could have had a sandwich for lunch rather than thinking Christmas dinner would be anytime soon. I'd be past eating by the time it was ready, I get headaches if I go too long without food and I can't do daytime drinking..........

To 'go back in at the end' we have carrot and parsnip

cauliflower cheese

pugs in blankets

sweet potato mash

Stuffing

The turkey is out, and has been wrapped in tin foil since 1:30pm to 'insulate it'.
