Is this casual racism? Along the lines of ching chong jokes?

I'm BBC (British born Chinese) and feel that it seems more permissible to be casually racist about Chinese than other racial groups. A few years ago there used to be a Chinese tea advert with a kung fu monk and really bad accent which just felt wrong to me. I don't think that kind of advert would have been made about jerk chicken or naan bread for example.

Someone just posted on my FB jokes with Chinese accent, one liners, eg.Tie my shoe Tai Mai Shu

OK, thats pretty rubbish but it was a long list of them. It wasn't to me personally.

I found it old fashioned and un PC. I feel if someone posted this with Jamaican or Indian accents it would be disapproved of.

Am I being oversensitive?

Ego Google holocaust jokes if you want to know. The actual holocaust isn't funny.

I personally find if I don't make jokes about upsetting situations, I cry. Just me? Humour helps me deal with the world being shit

BrandNewAndImproved · 28/12/2015 15:57

Oh stop being so patronising. Your not being a holier than hou person because you have a different sense of humour and you haven't been to shy to throw a few insults around either.

Ego made quite clear her rejections were for being trans not because she isn't competent which is what you implied.

Oh so when you use insults in a funny context even when it would offend someone with sn that's ok isit. Only when you do it though Grin Oh I get it now.

This thread is a joke. I'm so glad none of my friends think like this and care about actual racism instead of patronising people on what is funny or not.

If you think I care to look back on your posts ego then think again. It's words on a screen nothing more. Enjoy your boring lives.

SmillasSenseOfSnow · 28/12/2015 16:04

Ah 22. I think I used to spout bollocks regularly at that age too
I can't remember when Cards Against Humanity came out but I do remember trying hard to find similar things funny for a while around that age, probably to be seen as different and a cool girl and thus win approval from men, mainly. The main issue is that such things get old really fast, even when you're in the middle of that kind of behaviour. Cards Against Humanity has been out for far too long to still be seen as hilarious by anyone with more than a handful of brain cells.

BrandNewAndImproved · 28/12/2015 16:05

Erm well my grandma is German and lived through the holocaust, my dcs dad's are black so that's another tick and ice had relatives die of cancer so there's another tick. I find it all funny.

So no acknowledgement that you implied Ego is incompetent?

And I can't imagine why anyone who worked in a school for children with additional needs wouldn't be acquainted with the equality and diversity policy.

Maybe she is incompetent and blames it on other things sooty. How would you know either way?

And nowhere have I said I share bad taste jokes on social media. I've said I like having drinks with friends and we like laughing, we also like cards again humanity... Nowhere have I said anything about that being online.

And I do find those three things funny in the game. I've stated it quite a few times.

Iggi999 · 28/12/2015 16:11

I am finding it funny to think that you (Tali) would be sitting at home crying about the holocaust and Jade Goody were it not for the trauma-relieving properties of the cards against humanities game, that allow you to turn your tears into laughter.
