To not give the taxi driver a Christmas tip?

Because he chewed gum really loudly the entire journey. I hate, hate, HATE the sound of chewing. I always use the same firm to get home from work and they are really nice chaps. But chewing noises give me the rage. So rather than politely ask him to stop I have instead decided to silently seethe and withhold his Christmas tip. That'll show him right??
..........Right?

I was disgusted to see a Tesco employee chomping on gum whilst carrying out a Threading procedure on a customer at their beauty bar!

I stopped and said very loudly to my daughter how revolting it was but my daughter said I was being rude for staring and it wasn't fair on the lady having her treatment done!

I would not have tolerated having someone chomping away whilst in such close proximity. I could see the gum in her mouth as she spoke to the wins. It was awful.

I was going to complain but my daughter said it wasn't the spirit of Christmas to stick my nose in!

I do sympathise with you as I think chewing gum is a revolting habit but it is very unprofessional and unacceptable to do it whilst at work.

However, taxi drivers are often smokers and the gum could be helping to prevent him from sparking up so the gum is the lesser of two evils.

I'd have tipped but only a small tip!

Ah yes, he will immediately understand without the need for words, that no forthcoming tip is because of his chewing gum. He won't think you are tight.

Sounds like you have misophonia, which sucks but doesn't mean he is unreasonable

Last few times I tried they handed it back. I'm done now. If they want more money they'll have to put their prices up.

Tipping is a minefield.

I chew gum at work sometimes. I also walk about holding mugs of tea.

At the prices taxi's charge they don't need tips! £21 for a 8 mile journey the other day.

I never know when to tip in the UK. (I am forrin). I tip waiting staff and beauticians but never tip taxi drivers as their service is almost always rubbish. I use cabs a lot, and 9 times out of 10 they are late turning up when booked, have no idea where places are or expect me to give directions the entire way. Not to mention the cabs that reek of cigarette smoke or drivers that drive so badly that all the passengers get nauseous.

The other day, my taxi driver got lost in a relatively simple journey as he took the wrong turn, then refused to listen to my instructions. After 20 mins, I got out and walked the rest of the way. And he charged me double the usual rate (private hire, 'regulated' by the city council).

My city does have a reputation for crap taxi drivers, though.

If he was private hire you should have known how much it would cost when you made the booking.

Nanny, it was a private hire booked in advance. I know the fares off by heart as I use cabs so often but he charged me double because he was driving around for ages having got lost in taking the wrong turn. Yep, I realise it costs to run a cab but costs resulting from driver mistakes shouldn't be passed on to customers.

The city has had a long standing problem with this type of stuff. There was a big hoohaa a while ago about how the licences were awarded.
