A courier delivered a parcel to my address when I was not at home. I have not given any details of 'leave with neighbour if not in, or 'safe place' or anything. He/she put note through door saying 'parcel left in meter box'. He unlocked my leccy meter box with his own key and put parcel in!! Bit miffed I am.

this was a delivery i did complain about - mostly because it was peak holiday time ad there was no car in the drive so could have alerted a burglar to no-one being home.

My postman knows I have lots of little children so if he has parcels (most days) he knocks, waits a second then opens my door and puts them in my hallway, calling out 'post' as he does so. He's awesome. It's like having Postman actual Pat as my postie.

ProfGrammaticus · 22/12/2015 17:23

OP I think that's a really good idea and I have no idea why you are annoyed about it.

TheFairyCaravan · 22/12/2015 17:23

Some people aren't happy about anything are they?

I've taken in so many parcels for our neighbours over the road this month my hall has resembled Santa's grotto most days. I don't mind though, they both work, I don't so it's no bother.

Oysterbabe · 22/12/2015 17:25

So what's the problem?

madmotherof2 · 22/12/2015 17:28

I don't understand? What's to be miffed about? Did you fancy an hour long wait picking up the parcel, only after 24 hours, at the RM office?

toastedbeagle · 22/12/2015 17:29

My postman hid a parcel of personalised chocolate bars under my doormat. Completely hidden. He thoughtfully put a card through the letterbox telling me they were there, but he needn't have bothered, as when I stepped on my doormat to open my door, the sound of all the chocolate bars breaking was enough to alert me.

OP YABVU!

Going out on a limb here, but is it because he opened your meter box with his own key?

How did he have his own key to your meter box? Confused

elf0508 · 22/12/2015 17:33

The Hermes guy for this area does that too, God only knows why you'd be miffed

Shutthatdoor · 22/12/2015 17:35

Not getting why you are miffed. YABU

ComposHatComesBack · 22/12/2015 17:36

YABI My Christmas present got wanged over a seven foot fence by the useless Hermes delivery twunt, despite there being people in the house at the time.

girlguide123 · 22/12/2015 17:37

I think that's quite ingenious, actually.

the time I had my perfume parcel chucked over the 6' (plus fram) high side gate, I wasn't quite so impressed...

girlguide123 · 22/12/2015 17:39

meter keys are standard I think?

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 22/12/2015 17:45

I had a parcel left down the side of next doors house and recorded on the tracking as being left in my rear porch

No card here or next door so no one knew where it was until dh while being nosy spotted it through a gap in the fence. Missing fence panel, not tiny gap. Given its winter, next door don't go in the garden much and had no reason to think a delivery would be left there given its not for them!

TartanBirdFeeder · 22/12/2015 17:48

I'd be delighted if they did that. Common sense from a delivery driver, who'd have thought it?!

glueandstick · 22/12/2015 17:57

What a good idea. One of the couriers around here also lives nearby so if no one is in, he'll pop back on his way home with the locals parcels or walk round in the evening. Our old postman (think rural village) found we hadn't shut the door properly when we went on holiday so checked with a neighbour that there was a spare key, locked up and left a note. We miss that postie so much.

Sameshitdiffname · 22/12/2015 17:58

I think you're quite lucky to get it at all when you wasn't home this close to Christmas!

Youarentkiddingme · 22/12/2015 18:01

My postman also uses common sense above policy as such. I nipped to local shop and was gone 10 minutes. I returned to a card saying I'd missed parcel and so drove through estate to find him - van was still parked there. He said give him 10 minutes and he'd get it for me.
It was pissing it down and windy. So I made him a flask of coffee and gave him some chocolates and said just leave flask outside my door next time I have post.
It's a thankless task and job that is early starts and doesn't change whatever the weather. Also salaried so when it's busy they work extra hours for nothing.

You're lucky to also have a sensible postie.

Moln · 22/12/2015 18:05

Not seeing what miffed the op.

🤔

Believeitornot · 22/12/2015 18:06

What should they have done?

AnnaMarlowe · 22/12/2015 18:09

Just to put it in perspective OP. We had a delivery left in our newly emptied but filthy food waste bin.

Thankfully the contents were ok but the packaging was so revolting I couldn't recycle it.

Our local courier and Royal Mail staff are brilliant. I work full time and all my Christmas shopping has been done online. I'm only waiting for one last parcel to arrive.

Every driver has had a cheery smile on their face too. They are all amazing as far as I'm concerned.

TheCatsFlaps · 22/12/2015 18:09

YABU. What exactly is the problem.

Was out when DPD called to deliver a parcel. Got a text asking me go nominate a neighbour, the namd of the driver and my position on his round. Got another message with a picture of neighbour's house snd copy of her signature too. Better than bloody Yodel or fucking Hermes!!! Angry

DoesntLeftoverTurkeySoupDragOn · 22/12/2015 18:09

Do you have a key to open the meter cupboard?

If yes, I fail to see what you could possibly be annoyed about.

Bookeatingboy · 22/12/2015 18:10

I think he showed initiative... surely better than taking it back to the depot meaning you would need to make a trip down there.

Incidentally I sold some video games on Ebay a few weeks ago, the recipient wasn't in so it was taken to the local sorting office. When they went there to collect it they couldn't find it!A admitted to receiving it but had lost it. Now my payment (£50) from them is on hold with Ebay since the buyer has opened a dispute for a refund. Tracking info is saying that the parcel is at the sorting office! I've had to open a claim for a refund with RM.

Do you think I'd rather the postman had left the parcel somewhere safe... damn right I do!
