what I will wear
If each kid has the same amount of presents ( really? Yours count?)

I care about none of it.

My mum used to get so stressed, she and my father would both end up somewhat frazzled and tense. Which laid a layer of tension on us kids. Christmas Day seemed to be about achieving... something Christmassy.

I always vastly prefered the following days. Me and my siblings would sneak down early and watch glorious uninterrupted hours of Scooby Doo, munching Xmas choccie, while mum and dad had extended lie ins to recuperate from Xmas exertions.

So our family Christmases are low key, relaxed and feel like the post xmas Scooby Doo days of my childhood.

I am the only one of mates not run ragged, trying to do a million things and juggle lots of other people's wants and needs. I think maybe that has to be part of the fun of Christmas for them. A sort of enjoyed stress, that maybe functions to underline the sense of triumph when they pull off the Christmas they are aiming for. Or at least I hope it is. Cos it looks like my idea of hell and I hope they are getting something out of it.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 22/12/2015 15:30

Agree that some people seem to choose to enjoy/create the stress.

OnlyHereForTheCamping · 22/12/2015 16:45

I quite like getting dolled up tbh

Liberated71 · 22/12/2015 16:58

Ribbons and bows
Breakfast ( a mince pie will do nicely thank you)
Shoes (slippers all day - wellies when walking the dog)
Starters
How much ket is consumed (unless child is sick!)
An "evening meal" - we'll still be at the lunch table
TV

In fact the more I think about this the more I'm looking forward to a chilled day with my family

Donge13 · 22/12/2015 17:33

Don't care about tv. It is never on in this house from bed time Xmas eve till the 27th.
What anybody has on.
Evening meal. We will spend all day eating the post dinner cheese board

OnlyHereForTheCamping · 22/12/2015 17:38

My Christmas walk is the highlight of mine and the dog's day!

Other than that, I just hope the lunch is good (I cook it!).

DiseasesOfTheSheep · 22/12/2015 18:36

Is BBQed pizza noticeably different from oven cooked pizza? Is it superior somehow?

Genuine question. We don't have a barbecue, but I am a big fan of pizza...

TheDevilMadeMeDoIt · 22/12/2015 19:21

I really don't care about being online by lunchtime to grab the sale bargains. There is NOTHING I need that badly.

Sallystyle · 22/12/2015 19:29

What I'm wearing
Starters
Breakfast
Getting presents myself

I do care about the children's presents and everyone having a good time and enough to eat.

Kitla · 22/12/2015 20:02

I don't care about:

Christmas clothes - is that even a thing?? I just wear whatever is clean and ironed!

How much is spent on each child. They take turns opening presents so they get the same number of gifts, but I pay no attention to the value of them.

What is on tv. We don't watch tv on Christmas Day - it's the day we spend together, enjoying each other's company so tv is strictly banned!

Christmas lunch. My mum cooks, but I don't eat meat, and hate Christmas pudding. I couldn't care less if we had curry for Christmas lunch.

Mad present opening frenzies. Dislike all the chuck gifts at each other, but don't care about what you've got, cause I'm too busy opening my presents. We tend to spread out the presents over the whole day, so it's lasts the whole day, rather than being done by 10am and the kids back in their rooms! (Well, they wouldn't be allowed, but you get the idea!!)

However, I do care about:

Spending time together and enjoying each other's company (not locked up in your own rooms)

Prosecco - well, we all have our vices

Breakfast (Buck's Fizz and pancakes). Also The cheeseboard for tea. Particularly the champagne and orange Wensleydale. You may be noticing a theme here.

Playing a particular card game - it's a family tradition.

calzone · 22/12/2015 20:09

I really don't know if it's superior or not but DH is an Italian chef and loves being outside cooking:)

BackforGood · 22/12/2015 20:28

When they are little, of course it matters about them getting similar numbers of gifts. The number of gifts is important when you are little and don't have any concept of the value of money / cost of things. They need to know they are treated equally and, in little peoples eyes, one dc getting 7or 8 presents when they get 1 or 2, would seem very unfair. Bollocks to people saying they would give their children short shrift if they started counting present - I don't believe they would honestly treat their dc so very differently.

However, to return to the question.... Grin
I don't care about the 'big' Christmas specials since we lost Morcombe and Wise or the 'big' film releases over Christmas.
I don't care about what anyone is wearing
I don't care if the teens want to toddle off to their rooms later in the afternoon rather than all faking a bit of 'whole family jolity'

I do care about the food - all of it - It's about the only time we have a starter, and I love it. I care about having proper coffee and after eight mints at the end too.
I care deeply about getting several rations of mulled wine in the couple of weeks around Christmas
I care about the carols services and crib services and candle-lit service
I care about going carol singing and belting out all the traditional carols (and descants)
I care about the little odd things that have become our traditions.
I care about spending the time with the people I love most dearly.

StellaAlpina · 22/12/2015 20:51

Oh I definitely enjoy the stress...worth it for that 'ta da' feeling you get at the end. Or that bit where everyone is bickering in the kitchen...it gives me a lovely buzzy/busy feeling.

I like the whole big production aspect tbh...I can see relatives and have a roast/watch films any weekend I want (well every month or two, we're busy and trains are expensive)

I wouldn't like to spend the whole day in PJs, I wouldn't feel very clean!

SeasonalVag · 22/12/2015 21:29

I'm with pp, I loove the drama! We always have guests, nibbles, carols, mass, music, champagne, the works.

MiddleAgeMiddleEngland · 22/12/2015 22:39

The two things I care about are: (i) that we get out for some fresh air and a good walk, can't bear being inside all day and (ii) we have plenty of roast parsnips.

Nothing else matters as much. But having DD home for the holidays is lovely Smile

CreepingDogFart · 23/12/2015 06:49

Calzone are you married to Gino?

calzone · 23/12/2015 09:42

:)

Bedsheets4knickers · 23/12/2015 10:47

Queens speech

Bedsheets4knickers · 23/12/2015 10:49

I also don't care if the kids skip brekkie and just attack the selection boxes . Just keep your hands of my roses x

ShelaghTurner · 23/12/2015 12:26

I care that my mother, who insists on hosting, doesn't get too stressed, and I care about having an hour in the evening to watch my favourite show uninterrupted for once in the year!

Other than that, meh, we'll eat what we eat, when we eat, wearing whatever.

DickDewy · 23/12/2015 20:47

Do kids count presents? Shame on them!

Queen's speech? Last watched it in 1985.

I do care that my husband, who has done all of the food shopping today (he does all of the cooking and we have 15 coming at last count), spent £250 on booze alone, despite the fact our garage is bursting with booze, and yet he bought only ONE HEAD of brocolli

He looked at me askance when I suggested it might not go round 15 people!
