to think that Christmas is ruined because of the warm weather

I am not feeling it this year.
Winter should be cold.
Cold, crisp sunny days, warm Christmas jumpers, hot chocolate, frosty mornings.

This Christmas will be a damp squib. With the emphasis being on warm and damp.

I like it and touch wood I haven't caught a cold this year, which is great.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 20/12/2015 09:03

YABU, I'm loving the warm weather. It hasn't stopped me feeling Christmassy. Long may it continue Xmas Smile

MrsMilkyMoo · 20/12/2015 09:04

Yabu. A couple of my best ever Christmases have been spent in sunny southern California where it was pretty warm but it still felt really Christmassy anyway. It's great not having to spend a fortune on heating or worry about snow closing roads.

Ifiwasabadger · 20/12/2015 09:06

YABVU. I am on my eighth sunny Christmas overseas. Blue sky, sunshine, Christmas dinner sat outside, it is heaven!

ASmallHenInItsLateForties · 20/12/2015 09:08

I does seem weird, but I don't hate it. People everywhere wearing tshirts in December Confused (not me...it has to be positively tropical before I'll go out in just a tshirt). It's so strange though.

The only thing is I can't wear my lovely new warm coat. But I'm sure normal service will be resumed soon enough on the weather front, so I'm enjoying it. And think of what we're saving on heating Smile.

MrsMook · 20/12/2015 11:03

It was surreal going out last night in a short strapless dress with just a light jacket. Only 23oC warmer than the day DS was born 5 years ago Confused

The sun's come out today at long last, and the weeks of feeling heavy and tired in the weeks of permanent twilight have suddenly lifted. I've been out for a run with my shadow, and seen several robins while listening to Christmas music, and now I can face putting up the Christmas tree Grin

PeasOnEarth · 20/12/2015 11:13

Ruined is OTT.
And we've not even bothered to set the heating yet! It takes more than a half dozen evenings to get to the programming it point.

But as a PP said: Haven't worn, gloves, scarf or hat once yet. Still sweating on public transport.
Definitely. And I made lovely scarves for presents.

It's very odd that's for sure. We're away to Scotland for New Year and when we booked it MIL was convinced it would be a disaster eg we'd be prevented from getting back for work due to snow. Now I'm more disappointed we might not need the cosy woodburner!!

BaronessBomburst · 20/12/2015 11:22

It's weird but I enjoyed going around a Christmas market yesterday without getting numb toes or painful fingers. It was 14c in Xanten, Germany, and that was at 7.30pm. Xmas Shock

Hotpatootietimewarp · 20/12/2015 11:23

I'm in the south west of Scotland and we have had a few hard frosts so far, to be fair it he been mild, dark, grey and wet for about the past 3 or 4 years at Christmas, then January comes around and we get a couple month of the very cold frosty and snowy conditions

Madbengalmum · 20/12/2015 11:30

FFS, why dont you just cancel christmas then!!
A bit OTT dont you think OP?

motherinferior · 20/12/2015 11:55

It's not exactly warm. Just not very cold.

Which is rather easier if you're out on the streets this year. People die. As they do if they're indoors but can't afford heating. And that's not taking into account the acute pressure on hospitals predicted this winter. I think I'd rather see fewer deaths, frankly, even if it does mean the Dickensian spirit is reduced a bit.

hiddenhome2 · 20/12/2015 11:57

Well, I would say that xmas would be ruined if a close family member croaks it on xmas day or if the house burns down, but, hey, each to their own Confused

RascarCapac · 20/12/2015 12:05

We're pondering about what to do with the turkey. Usually we leave it in the shed, suitably wrapped obvs, for 36 hours or so, then bring it in the night before. I thinks it's just going to be too warm in the shed this year. Ditto wine and soft drinks - will actually need to chill them this year.

We have had our wood burner on precisely twice since September. Haven't worn gloves or my wool coat at all yet.

First world problems. But it's definitely different this year. I think the cold emphasises to me the difference between the outside and nice toasty safe welcoming inside, and that feels nice at Christmas.

SquirrelledAway · 20/12/2015 12:10

We've had snow already. And days where the frost hasn't melted all day in the shade. On past experience we're most likely to get a big dump of snow in February though.

ssd · 20/12/2015 12:15

I would love snow just now , just until about the 3rd jan, that would be perfect. I feel the mild weather is just plain weird just now, but it rains here all the time and the damp rain is crap.

if its not dry on xmas day I'll cry not really

ssd · 20/12/2015 12:17

I had to put in the not really as above as people take things so literally on here

I dont for a minute think the op's xmas is actually ruined, more she'd like it a bit colder and snowy to feel more festive

SirChenjin · 20/12/2015 12:18

Agree with pp re snow in Jan/Feb - it's on its way, sadly. We've had bastrading snow up here as late as March and April

tictactoad · 20/12/2015 12:19

YABU.

I loathe ice, snow and frost. Long may they stay away.

MeanwhileHighAboveTheField · 20/12/2015 12:23

Easy to forget that for us this week started with 4" of snow and a day off school followed by a day where it didn't get above about -5 all day!

TheChippendenSpook · 20/12/2015 12:27

I wouldn't say it's ruined but I do want the seasons back!

TheHiphopopotamus · 20/12/2015 12:29

I wouldn't say ruined but I know what you mean. I like my seasons well defined. If it's December, I like it cool and crisp not warm and soggy.

I suppose it makes up for that winter we had a couple of years ago that went on for about nine months Hmm It snowed in May that year Shock

TiaTheTulipFairy · 20/12/2015 13:07

It's ideal, can send houseload of inlaws out for long walk! Also love not having to defrost car, and my toes (Raynauds) are unusually content for the time of year too.

StillDrSethHazlittMD · 20/12/2015 13:35

Well, we haven't had a white Xmas in years but I must admit it doesn't feel at all Xmassy at this temperature. I like a bit of bite in the air, maybe a bit of frost in the mornings. I do think one of the reasons I feel even less festive than normal is this mild weather. But then I'm one of those people who thinks those who like going somewhere hot for Xmas are just plain weird!

MaybeAnOverthinker · 20/12/2015 13:48

Yabu! I am all for warmer Christmases! 🌞

Varya · 20/12/2015 13:51

Saves on heating though!
