to think that Christmas is ruined because of the warm weather

I am not feeling it this year.
Winter should be cold.
Cold, crisp sunny days, warm Christmas jumpers, hot chocolate, frosty mornings.

This Christmas will be a damp squib. With the emphasis being on warm and damp.

It very rarely snows at Christmas. It is unseasonably mild atm but Christmas does not equal snow!

Fugghetaboutit · 19/12/2015 21:42

I bet the gas companies are fucking hating it too Xmas Grin

finetonive · 19/12/2015 21:42

I'm so with you.

Thanks Smile

Never mind Christmas jumpers. Christmas t shirts are the way to go!

😢

minininipie · 19/12/2015 21:44

I understand! It won't be ruined but definitely doesn't feel festive. I'm going to be with family abroad and the forecast is 17 degrees. Doesn't feel right. Xmas Angry

finetonive · 19/12/2015 21:44

On the other hand I grew up in Africa so a warm Christmas doesn't seem that odd!

I could roll with that.
Hot, dry and sunny.

In the UK, it is damp, dank, grey and miserable.

A bit different to dry and sunny.

Well, when people are saying "it rarely snows at christmas" - it's interesting looking at "on this day" on facebook for the last few weeks, for the last 7 years, there's been a mention of snow by now at some point - I've been in Kent for the last 6 years, in London the the 2 before (only been on FB 8 years!). It's only been the last couple of years the snow has arrived earlier and gone by christmas/not settled, but it's still felt Christmassy.

YABU. I'm enjoying the mild weather. I'd much rather a mild winter than loads of snow! unless it snows after Tuesday when I'm on holiday for two weeks and out of the country

CloakAndJagger · 19/12/2015 21:56

It's rained every day here pretty much since the start of November with a flood in between. Local business have been ruined as well as a lot of people's homes.

But the community spirit has been great and the generosity of strangers amazing. In that way Christmas spirit, if you want to call it that, is all around.

Still, the weather is shit, depressing and miserable, but it's not ruined Christmas if you've still got a roof over your head.

finetonive · 19/12/2015 22:03

I too have lived in a hot country and
it's completely different.

Hot, dry and sunny.
Christmas swim. Barbie.
What's not to like? Smile

But, this dull, grey, damp, miserable, soul destroying, 'warm' weather that we're experiencing at the moment just sucks the joy out of Christmas.

I am trying (as I'm sure a lot of us are)
But,
It's NOT Christmasy. Sad

I'm not British, but I love the British spirit.
There is a real case of ''well, this is not what I thought it would be, but fuck it, lets get on with it and have a great time anyway''

pointythings · 19/12/2015 22:11

Meh.

For me, Christmas is about spending time with family, casting aside the worries of the past year, hoping for renewal in the new year (and boy, do we need it!). The weather has fuck-all to do with it.

ExitPursuedByABear · 19/12/2015 22:13

Stamps feet. Seasons. We need proper bloody seasons.

That's the whole point of living here

Topseyt · 19/12/2015 22:17

It is so mild it just doesn't feel like December at all. I am wearing t-shirt and cardigan, with the heating barely on at all (set, but the mildness means it is hardly coming on).

I'd agree that it doesn't contribute to a Christmassy feeling, but I would rather have a mild winter than the one we had just two or three years ago where temperatures plunged to -20 and it hung around for months.

ghostspirit · 19/12/2015 22:17

think of all the money being saved not having to use the heating

blueandgreendots · 19/12/2015 22:23

It's shit. Fucking balmy temperatures and constant rain (west of Scotland) makes it very hard to feel festive. We just had a wood burning stove fitted, feel free to laugh

Puffpastry1 · 19/12/2015 22:25

Im happy it's so mild.

I'd hate to traipse out to buy Christmas stuff in the snow.

In fact I hate the snow. I live in London and it brings everything to a standstill. The pavements are so slippery, elderly people don't want to venture out etc.

Im happy to see a bit of snow on a card.

SenecaFalls · 19/12/2015 22:29

I have lived in Florida most of my life. We have Christmas dinner outside on the patio at least every other year. And fairly lights in the palm trees. Not ruined at all.

revealall · 19/12/2015 22:32

I feel Christmassy.

Grey days mean I can turn all the lights on/ candles lit.

I can go into town without boiling by the time I get there and then overheating in every shop.

I walk into town without slipping over and park without worrying about the car park ice rink.

I can just get into the car and go with the extra 10 mins spent defrosting. Parties have been brilliant as you can wear nice clothes without another few layers and people can go outside and have a drink.

I can open a window when guests come over and no one complains about the icey cold draft.

The only thing I'm not liking is not being able to put bottles outside to chill - the fridge is straining.

BillBrysonsBeard · 19/12/2015 22:40

I know what you mean OP! Winter is about crisp, cold and dry days and maybe some snow at some point. In reality it's raining, grey, warmish.. Hard to know what to wear! I want to wear all my hats and scarves but get too hot Grin
The best winter I've had in a while was living in the Middle East believe it or not. The mornings were beautiful.. Extremely cold and frosty but dry, sunshine and blue skies. It was stunning! It warmed up a little during the day so we got the best of both. Nights were freezing so sat inside with the fire. It felt like the winters you see on Christmas cards! My friend who lives in the Arctic says it's the same there too.

misshornblowerwouldbuyit · 19/12/2015 22:44

yanbu.

TopHat33 · 19/12/2015 22:46

YADNBU. I hate it. Haven't worn, gloves, scarf or hat once yet. Still sweating on public transport.

How can you enjoy a mulled wine or a nice air of gloves when it's like this.

Saw daffodils yesterday FFs.

specialsubject · 19/12/2015 22:46

time off work for those chained to offices. Quite pleasant if you can get out without a ton of warm clothes.

sun forecast tomorrow.

NewLife4Me · 19/12/2015 22:47

I know what you mean, but last night I was at a Christmas market and it was great that the mulled wine was enough to keep the chill off.
