to think that Christmas is ruined because of the warm weather

I am not feeling it this year.
Winter should be cold.
Cold, crisp sunny days, warm Christmas jumpers, hot chocolate, frosty mornings.

This Christmas will be a damp squib. With the emphasis being on warm and damp.

Cloak beat me to it:

If you haven't been flooded out, then I don't think this is the best time to whinge about the weather spoiling Christmas. It is currentlly pissing it down in (my part of) Cumbria. I hope it doesn't fall in the catchment areas of the affected rivers, or more properties and livelihoods may be at risk.

But the people round here are bloody awesome.

hedgehogsdontbite · 19/12/2015 22:50

YANBU

I live in Sweden. Dark and damp and grey here. Not a flake to be seen.

I WANT MY FUCKING SNOW FOR CHRISTMAS!

Bodicea · 19/12/2015 22:50

Give me cold over rain every day. The rain ruins everything. Trying to entertain a two year old in this incessant rain has been a nightmare. Have cancelled half the Christmassy days out we had planned at the weekend or gone and given up after half an hour. Rubbish!

purplehazed · 19/12/2015 22:52

Yes but look on the good side. We don't need our central heating on and the greedy energy companies profits will be down.

coffeeisnectar · 19/12/2015 22:53

I like it. We can have a nice day on the beach on boxing day without freezing to death.

Think of all the old people who can afford food because it's mild.

I think 'ruined' is an overstatement, but I know what you mean.

We wore tshirts on a dog walk today. Crazy.

I am concerned for my confused spring bulbs. They've grown so much - they'll be buggered if we get frost eventually.

remembermewhen · 19/12/2015 23:05

It's really bizarre,
Lying in bed with the windows open, heating hasn't been on in days.
It's 12 degrees.

It's great not tacking slush/ ice/ wind & rain but it does make it feel way less festive !

Because it's out of the ordinary I guess!

YANBU!

DickDewy · 19/12/2015 23:07

I'm lying in bed with the windows open too!

ImogenTubbs · 19/12/2015 23:08

I agree, a bit of a frost is festive. But I am (genuinely, and not meaning to guilt anyone here) feeling relieved for many vulnerable people for whom the cold can be very hard and even lethal. Hopefully their Christmasses will be a little bit merrier as a result.

Darvany · 19/12/2015 23:08

There are lovely autumnal mushrooms in the communal areas where I live.

But me and my gas meter are very grateful for their unseasonal weather.

Pandora97 · 19/12/2015 23:41

I'm loving the warm weather. Hate snow, hate frost, hate having to go out with gloves on....it hasn't snowed where I live for 2 years (apart from a few pathetic sprinkles for 2 mins) and I'm thrilled. Well I don't mind the odd bit of snow but if it lasts for any more than a couple of days it's too much for my liking.

Certainly where I am December is never that cold anyway, and certainly not around Xmas. I can't remember there being any frost (although I'm sure there must have been - definitely no snow though) or it being particularly cold when I was growing up on Xmas Day. January and especially February are the worst months for snow but I'm hoping we'll escape it again this year. I'm just not someone who deals well with cold weather.

MrsJayy · 19/12/2015 23:44

My dad was going on about a white christmas how its not the same im nearly 45 and i cant remember snow at christmas maybe a dusting I blame bing crosby Grin

ilovesooty · 19/12/2015 23:46

I'd be quite happy never to see snow again.

MrsJayy · 19/12/2015 23:49

Its the ice I cant cope with

Pipbin · 19/12/2015 23:49

I live in the south and there has been a couple of white christmases in the past 10 years or so.

I know what you mean op.
I don't feel Christmassy at all now. It's been grey and damp for weeks now. I like cold and frosty.

Puffpastry1 · 19/12/2015 23:50

Its a nice "thought"

Practically its a bastard and very dangerous.

Littleredhouse · 19/12/2015 23:59

Yep, yanbu - I hate this boring, mild weather. So unfestive - Christmas should ideally be snowy, but failing that I'll take some frost! I remember it being bland as fuck in the south last Xmas too.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 20/12/2015 00:15

I long for cold, I'm having flushes so can go from "ok" to "furnace" in a blink.
I'm out in just a jumper and leggings, everyone else is in thick coats.
Though when I feel chilled you'll all be freezing.

MrsJayy · 20/12/2015 00:43

Im in Scotland its a bit colder 12 degrees is nuts thats our summerspring its been pissing down for weeks though

finetonive · 20/12/2015 01:34

nocool,
hope there isn't too much flooding round your way Sad

See!

to think that Christmas is ruined because of the warm weather
rosy71 · 20/12/2015 08:29

I am 44 & live in the Midlands. As far as I remember, we had large amount of snow & a white Christmas in 1981/2 and 2010/11. Other years have varied - some quite cold & snowy, others warmer with little or no snow all winter. Snow is more common in January/February really. (My brother is a meteorologist so I have his type of conversation often!)

TeaFathers · 20/12/2015 08:56

saying its "ruined" is being a bit over dramatic, no?
i'm saving a fortune on heating bills here and i'm thrilled. i didn't even have the heating on last night. too warm.

SirChenjin · 20/12/2015 09:00

I'm delighted it's warm - although I could do without the rain.

It means that I don't have to worry about my son getting home from uni due to snow closed roads or rail lines, or DH and I being held up at work, or difficulties getting food in. Brilliant!
