I'm all sorted for next week, pressies bought/made and wrapped. Meat and stuffing in freezer. Getting veg and puddings and booze on Tuesday.
Feeding 10 (four if us, 6 guests) for Christmas dinner, no problem, love a full table :)
Last minute invitation given to our friend, who will be rhe only veggie at the table.
I honestky cant be arsed to prepare a special veggie dish for the main course.
Starters are veggi - Cashew and swee tpotato pate and Pumpkin and honey soup (ill make this without chicken stock)
Loads of veg, roasties, parsnips, sprouts (now not with bacon) carrots, peas and beans, mashed carrot and swead and potato and leek gratin (sp?).
Ill make some sausage free stuffing & gravy. All three puddings are meat free :)
Veggies - would you be happy with this as a christmas dinner? Or would you expect a meat replacement... e.g. nut roast?
Not in the uk, so no easy couldren/LMc to chuck in the oven... Id have to make from scratch.
AIBU to not bother, I think the above is more than enough?

I'm not vegetarian but I don't eat much meat. I would be perfectly happy with that.

ellaballoo · 19/12/2015 09:26

As a veggie , I think that sounds perfect and delicious .

As a veggie that sounds delicious. As a last minute guest I think I'd offer to bring something though.

possiblefutures · 19/12/2015 09:28

Just fry up some halloumi?

cabbageleaf · 19/12/2015 09:28

Sounds perfect and delicious.

Hoplikeabunny · 19/12/2015 09:29

Can I come? All sounds delicious!

MummaV · 19/12/2015 09:29

My MIL is veggie and this is exactly what she does every year. She loves her roast exactly the same as everyone else just minus the meat.
On occasion she'll stick a quorn 'chicken' fillet in the oven, but only if she has one in the freezer and remembers.

mamas12 · 19/12/2015 09:29

Let your guest know what a lovely feast you are serving up and tell them if they would like to bring something else ready made by them or bought to go with it they're very welcome

corlette · 19/12/2015 09:30

For me personally, what you are serving up sounds delicious and I'd be more than happy with dinner. No meat substitute needed.

JasperDamerel · 19/12/2015 09:30

I was going to say that YWBU, because it's grim sitting down to a plateful of roast potatoes, spouts and parsnips while everyone else is tucking into stuffing balls and pigs in blankets, but actually your menu sounds fine.

SanityClause · 19/12/2015 09:31

My DD is having her first veggie Christmas this year.

I can't answer for others, but she is not bothered with a substitute for the meat, so long as she has vegetarian stuffing balls, and pigs in blankets, which I'm making with quorn mini sausages, and "fakon". I have also added baked beetroot to my usual vegetables, as she loves beetroot.

Moomintroll85 · 19/12/2015 09:31

I was veggie for ten years. I hated nut roasts, grim things. I would have been fine with what you're serving, it sounds lovely and a lot of variety.

ouryve · 19/12/2015 09:32

That sounds like a pretty fab spread. Can I come?

Bolshybookworm · 19/12/2015 09:33

I would as long as you gave me a double helping of roasties Grin

I love a roast dinner, at most I like some veggie sausages as well, but I'll quite happily do without. Sounds delicious!

Krampus · 19/12/2015 09:33

Let her known the menu and say she is more than welcome to bring something else.

Krampus · 19/12/2015 09:36

If you have oven space issues let her know up front too. There would be no point her turning up with a massive wild mushroom plait! But a quorn meat replacement wouldnt take long at all.

Bearsinmotion · 19/12/2015 09:39

I'm going to my meat-eating sisters for Christmas and taking a veggie pie which can go in the oven with everything else. But if she was providing what you are I wouldn't bother, it sounds lush Smile

EmmaWoodlouse · 19/12/2015 09:39

So long as there is some protein in there somewhere it shouldn't be a problem. I'm guessing the leek dish contains cheese (check that the cheese is suitable for vegetarians - some have rennet) and maybe the stuffing will contain nuts - in which case, it's a perfectly balanced meal for a vegetarian.

EmmaWoodlouse · 19/12/2015 09:40

Oh, you already mentioned cashews in the starter. Sounds good to me!

AnyoneButSanta · 19/12/2015 09:41

That sounds lovely. Tell her in advance so she can have an extra large portion of the starters (the pate sounds great).

Check you've got vegetarian cheese for the gratin and I think that could make the base of a vegetarian main course.

dingdongMadHairDayonhigh · 19/12/2015 09:42

I'm a veggie and that sounds delicious to me. With the gratin and the stuffing you really don't need any other kind of meat substitute, I'd be very full and satisfied on that lot :-)

mmmuffins · 19/12/2015 09:46

Yep I'd be completely happy with your set up! Sounds yummy.

nightandthelight · 19/12/2015 09:47

I am veggie and would consider the gratin as a main and the veg as sides so would be very happy :)

nightandthelight · 19/12/2015 09:51

Just one point, please don't forget gravy for the veggie (bog standard bisto is veggie so no need to go to a lot of hassle). Dry Christmas dinner does suck a little.
