I'm parked outside a second hand shop right now called 'Needfull things'. Argh! Why did nobody pick up on it? Surely the printers should have noticed?

It's really annoying me!

Barbara, I want that mug. I really, desperately want that mug. Before MiniAsh came along I was a primary teacher (and will probably return to the profession at some point) and the number of times I thought those words in my head, I can't even begin to count. It would be very, very tempting to buy that mug for several of my ex pupils. It's also extremely tempting to buy it for ds' nursery staff...

StarkytheDirewolf. Your post made me laugh and you're right, it does make your eyes feel weird!

Diane31 · 17/12/2015 08:18

I think "needful" and such words are becoming more (dare I say it?)Americanised English? As is "until" (till) and "got" (gotton). My teen, who is very good at grammar and English usually, does make these mistakes sometimes but one of her primary school teachers used to use "gotton" . I can live with the odd spelling mistake (I believe in having a dictionary handy though for words you're not sure of, I really do lol). I would love that mug though but just to many f words in it for me for everyday use lol!

Diane31 · 17/12/2015 08:21

"too" I mean. Wrong use of the word "to". Typographical not spelling lol. Annoying when that happens.

FretYeNot · 17/12/2015 08:24

My favourite was seen on the back of a catering van. "In and Out Door Catering"

BabyGanoush · 17/12/2015 08:30

Euphemia, ".... A teachers' fb page?" Shock

Or.... "A teacher's fb page?"Xmas Smile

ZanyMobster · 17/12/2015 08:41

The local independent card shop sells 'stationary'. I just want to say something to them!

goodcompany2 · 17/12/2015 09:25

Pub near me had a big sign saying 'Locally sauced food'; I laughed at the typo! Turns out it's a cleverly thought out pun and I missed the humour. I was so smug helpful pointing it out. Xmas Blush

RiverTam · 17/12/2015 09:29

Diane if you're son is using gotton then he's wrong anyway, it's gotten. (I wouldn't normally point this out but it is a thread about spelling and grammar mistakes ...)

mrsb26 · 17/12/2015 09:42

Rug's and Carpets - obviously hedging their bets with the apostrophes there!

Seriously, who sits there and says, "well, you need an apostrophe at the end of rugs, but carpets can go without." I'd love to hear their logical argument! Confused

GloopyGhoul · 17/12/2015 09:54

I had a little badge as a teenager which I loved, until I looked at it properly one day, "Punks not dead."

I choose to believe it is a deliberate allusion to immortal punks.

catfordbetty · 17/12/2015 11:29

Why the random 'it's' catford?

It isn't random.

AuntieClimax · 17/12/2015 11:55

I've told this story on here before.

Went into Thorntons last summer to see a huge display of those chocolate plaques that can have a message iced onto them.

There were lots already iced with the message 'Thanks for been my teacher'.

I pointed it out to them and two members of staff made a mad dash to take the display down.

Just loved the fact it was a gift thanking a teacher, but with a spelling error Grin

DinoSnores · 17/12/2015 11:57

"You're" first drink is free on the Bella Italia children's menu.

Doublebubblebubble · 17/12/2015 12:07

CD's and DVD's

Drives me insane also and this is a bit different but when people say or write "dc comics" (

Doublebubblebubble · 17/12/2015 12:08

river ooops XP

SalemSaberhagen · 17/12/2015 12:16

Ok then catford, why did you just write 'it's'?

OP posts:
MiniLop · 17/12/2015 13:04

Salem I think catford was referring to a mistake the poster above (Juneau) made; its instead of it's. Wasn't a very nice way of doing it though and not terribly clear.
Loving this thread though! I used to walk past a pub on my way into town that advertised "steak's". Steak is what?!

DrDreReturns · 17/12/2015 13:08

I see this sign every day. I have to resist the urge to take a silver marker pen to the extra 'f'.

To think someone should have picked up on this terrible misspelling?
Bakeoffcake · 17/12/2015 13:12

Sorry for being thick but what's wrong with the sign in the OP?

I dint I will any Needfull Things is meant to say!

DrDreReturns · 17/12/2015 13:14

It should be 'Needful.'

Bakeoffcake · 17/12/2015 13:15

*don't

Bakeoffcake · 17/12/2015 13:16

Oh thanks DrDre. I've never heard that word before. Blush

catfordbetty · 17/12/2015 13:33

Yes.

Wasn't a very nice way of doing it though and not terribly clear

Bollocks on both counts.
