To not get the Christmas jumper thing?

I don't get it. It seems to be the assumption now that everyone has a Christmas jumper. I don't spend a lot on clothes for myself or my kids (they have plenty of clothes though!) and object to paying £8-£15 for a jumper they can only wear for a couple of weeks, and which I don't even like! Their school has 'christmas jumper day', luckily I got them both one in the market second hand stall for £1.

On Christmas Day, we wear smart party clothes, just like we always did when I was a kid. Does anyone else still do that or does everyone wear silly jumpers now??? My girls have some lovely dresses they never get to wear so Christmas is one of the rare times they can dress up.

The thing is, decorated jumpers are fine for younger children.

I can't imagine my 14 year old would want to go to school with a jumper which I xmased up. It would be something that would most likely be laughed at. The majority of the school wearing Xmas jumpers while you are wearing a normal jumper with tinsel stuck on would be embarrassing for a teen I imagine.

If it was just Xmas jumpers it wouldn't be so bad, but it's the long list of dress up days for charity. Red nose day, book day, children in need day, random dress up as someone days for the sake of it. It never stops. Not everyone is creative or have the stuff to make their own costumes either.

Buy a winter jumper rather than a Christmas one? DD (5) has one with a penguin in a bobblehat on it and has worn it for 2 years between September and March. I think it cost about £4.

They're horrible and naff.

Well, yes. I think that's the whole point of them! They are supposed to be worn in an ironic way I would imagine.
