To cry when I hear Silent Night?

Every bloody time and every bloody year. Yesterday I was at a service where everyone sang it and boom, off I go. I try so hard to control myself. I bite my lip, deep slow breaths, pinch my arm, put my one sharp nail into my flesh at a painful angle, say the alphabet. Nothing works. The tears come. Then I am red faced, sniffling and fairly mortified! 😂I find it so beautiful, so simple and so ? Anyone else?

Oh Liv, I can imagine.

It's Away in a Manger for me, if sung by little children. I used to get a lump in my throat anyway when I heard it, but now it's proper tears as many years ago, it was sung at a friend's son's funeral by his primary school classmates. It's forever associated with him now.

Welling up just reading this thread!

We always go Carol singing at the hospital on Christmas eve and I have to dig my nails into my hand to stop myself crying all the way through!

Watching Carols from Kings and trying to keep composed during O Holy Night.

I'm the same, OP. This is the most moving rendition of I've heard [wells up].

Totally agree, German version brings me to tears! BTW I don't speak German!

I've been trying to find Go Tell It On The Mountain by a choir and keep turning up funked-up ones or warbly ones by women who sing through their noses like they're on Xmas Factor Xmas Confused

Silent Night is a weepy for me. My cousin died very young just a few weeks before christmas. Her funeral was mid Dec, and since she loved xmas my aunt and uncle choose to have us sing it instead of the usual funeral hymns. It was sweet and sad.

Away in a Manger, Oh Come all ye Faithful and Oh Holy Night all bring a lump to my throat. They remind me of happy childhood Christmases.

Aeroflotgirl · 25/12/2015 16:33

O Holy Night is one that I blub too, such a beautiful Carol.
