To be annoyed she's using my desk?

Bit of background, I've been signed off work with depression.

I had a colleague (who is a friend) tell me that another colleague has been using my desk - I've only been off a week!

This person is full time, doesn't have to hot desk and has her own desk. There is no logical reason why she would need to use it - only that she wants to use it.

Aibu to be annoyed by this and that it was even allowed by our manager?

Respect is not so different to care. It's still not the issue. She's done it for her own reasons. You're not at work, you shouldn't be dwelling on this. Please try to put it out of your mind.

I haven't even read the thread, just the title and it would annoy me no end too.

If u are off work with stress why is your friend telling u this? Surely your friends asked her why she moved. I would be inclined to forget about work while you are signed off and concentrate on getting better. Yes this has annoyed you but when you go back you will get your desk back so try not to stress out about this while you are not there.

What I do expect is a degree of respect.

That would be nice but as pinkdelight and midnightscribbler have pointed out, your colleague is just that. Your world's only collide because you have the same employer. She owes you nothing - she doesn't need to like you or respect you.

It's also a bit unreasonable to assume that someone using your desk is "disrespecting* you. It's quite odd and perculiarly proprietorial - given that you don't actually own it.

Please just forget this and stop posting about it - you are just making it worse and building it up into more of a thing than it needs to be.

I don't think anyone has the right to tell me not to post. I'm an adult and I am capable of making my own decisions.

In regards to respect I think it's sad that people say she doesn't have to respect me.

I respect everyone. I would find no joy in doing what the hell I wanted and not giving a shit if it hurt others.

But the point is that it won't have occurred to her that it would hurt you. So far as she's concerned, it's an empty desk which no-one else needs for a couple of weeks, there is no reason not to use it.

Of course you're entitled to post. I don't think people are saying your feelings are invalid but have you considered that you might be overthinking this, and that might be due to the depression?

That isn't a criticism btw just an observation - I have suffered MHI myself and I know how they can affect your thinking.
