Lemons Cure Cancer

Fuck off they do.

I have a 'friend' on Facebook who always posts about miracle cures for cancer like lemons and cayenne pepper. I want to punch her in the face.

My mum has terminal cancer. I'm angry. I'm angry a lot at the moment because life is fucking unfair. But this woman and her constant posts.

I've deleted her. I'm not really asking if I'm BU. I'm just ranting.

My name has nothing to do with this post. I'm pregnant and craving lemons.

It sounds as if she is perilously close to breaking the Cancer Act 1939 though I doubt if they would prosecute her unless she is shown to be making money from flogging lemons.

Btw, I thought lemon & cayenne was a weight loss meme, it has gone up in the world to he dizzy heights of curing cancer. It's almost like those dozy scientists out there haven't tried rooting through Sainsburys grocery sections... Total doofus's, every one of them.

I seriously doubt that actual reputable scientists are backing research that says lemons cure cancer.

Some scientists may be saying that lemons might contain agents that help prevent cancer - but that's rather different to saying "lemons cure cancer".

People such as OPs "friend" need to read and evaluate the research - which they are patently failing to do when they post this stuff on Facebook.

I've seen so many of these posts on FB lately. "The health secret the NHS doesn't want you to know!..." followed by guff about Big Pharma and Nature's Gift. If lemons worked, they'd be free on prescription. I'm sorry about your mum, cancer is shit.

As an FYI, did you know that cutting out all sugar and processed food can cure autism? And that a glass of Aloe Vera gel has the same pain relieving properties as four ibuprofen tablets? And... and ... A cut onion turns suddenly toxic when exposed to the air so you never use half and save the other half?

I read all this on FB. True science facts, innit? :)

OMG I had to refrain from ripping into a friend on fb myself yesterday for posting the same bogus rubbish. I've just lost my dad to terminal cancer and I appreciate that I'm not in the most rational of positions to be talking about it but I dearly wanted to tell her to FUCK OFF!

They don't. Clearly.
But I can understand why people want to think that they do. It's like an extreme version of believing that vitamin C stops you getting colds. Or any form of homeopathy.
By all means eat/drink lemons. But no-one should think they are curing cancer.

A small number of people might have started eating lemons and then go into cancer remission, and assume that it's cause and effect. It isn't.

A (talking) therapist once told me he could cure cancer. As a trained therapist I gave him my own thoughts on the subject (dad was terminal when he spouted that shite).

All the quacks come out of the woodwork, they really do.

I'm so very sorry to hear about your Mum OP. I lost my Mum to cancer and it's so annoying when you are taking care of them to hear this bullshit talk of tomatoes, lemons, cumin, broccoli smoothies.. all bullshit anyway. Don't let this silly talk upset you please.. Much love to you.

I was once witness to a scene at a party where a man was telling a woman, who was right in the middle of cancer treatment, about his "friend" who had cured his cancer with green vegetables. He was enthusing about it and saying this woman should try it as it was "more effective than chemo". My mouth was open. How she remained gracious is a mystery.

I think patients get used to it. Poor dad even put up with visits from the vicar and a faith healer with good grace. He did enjoy chatting theology with the vicar though (he never hid the fact that he was agnostic) and was amused by the healers mumbo jumbo.

Totally agree op. So sorry about your mum. I lost my lovely mum this year to cancer and seriously want to punch people who say you just have to be positive. My mum was the most optimistic person I know, she loved life. She really want to survive but fucking cancer cells don't give a shit. She always said she wasn't brave, she had no choice.
Put those people into Room 101 along with those who say share this post for all those who have cancer. No, how does that help? Better to all donate to cancer research or Marie Curie.
