Men and winking

Not an AIBU post but posting here for traffic...

What does it mean when a man winks at you? Is it a friendly gesture like how women sign off their messages with x, xx, xxx?

I really have no clue if it's just a cultural thing that men do in this country (UK). Since i moved here i sometimes receive winks from men but didn't really think much of them until today when my GP winked at me as I was leaving and I thought it was weird... can someone clue me in please?

I can't link very well either. Wink Murder was a nightmare for me.

It's a friendly and/or teasing thing. I wink when I'm teasing people, it's my physical interpretation of "[lighthearted]".

I am a winker, and indiscriminate with it. I have two main winks 1. The smiley friendly one and 2. The deadpan 'you're now in on a joke that the person I'm talking to isn't'.

A wink needs to be taken in context.

It's a bit old fashioned, I reckon it's dying out.

There is something inherently devious about a wink... even a seemingly innocent one.
