To suggest that ff babies are generally more content than breastfed babies?

...because they are fuller for longer?

Following on from an article I read recently regarding a study that suggested that of its recipients, the ff babies were generally deemed to be more calm, easy to settle to sleep etc than breastfed babies.

I know this is bound to be a taboo subject, but I must say, as a breastfeeding mother myself to a 4 month old dd, I have considered whether she'd be more satisfied on formula. She's not the easiest of babies and, to me, seems fussier and more demanding than her formula fed peers.

For example, she is really hard to settle to sleep for naps. She will sometimes feed to sleep, but not always (I know this is a debate on itself). I have never been to the shops or out for a walk for half an hour without her fussing (even if it's just for a little bit). She will sit on my knee or go to someone else for five minutes tops before fussing and starting to cry.

I'm not doubting the benefits of the quality of breastmilk, obviously. I guess I just feel like I'm filling up a tank that's emptying as quick as it's filling^^ and that she's never fully satisfied. I know breastmilk is digested quicker, but still.

She has no issues re: reflux, tongue tie or anything either.

Of course there are behavioural differences amongst all babies, but as a general rule, what is your opinion? Interested to hear from anyone who has perhaps breastfed one baby and formula fed another.

Giggle away !
My DS 2 got up this morning and made himself porridge - with pumpkin seeds and banana Grin
Bugger off with teenagers all eat shite - they don't.
He has also eaten about 3 satsumas a day and I run out of apples daily.

I should imagine there are lives that could have been saved by BF- its estimated there would be about a thousand less cases of breast cancer per year.
Quite sobering really .

TaliZorah · 10/12/2015 22:12

Sharon post what you said then, because that is pretty much what it was is it not

TaliZorah · 10/12/2015 22:13

Oh look it's cotto being a smug bastard again.

Bambambini · 10/12/2015 22:17

This thread had a lot of smug passive aggressive sniping at BF right from the start. FFeeders enjoying the chance to dwell on what they see as the negatives of BF and seemingly enjoying their little digs.

I know FF mums often feel defensive and often put upon (often with reason) but they have been dishing it out here but now taking the moral high ground against the as usual nutty, smug bfeeders.

Cotto · 10/12/2015 22:18

Oh do one !

Responding to "all teenagers eat crap"
well they don't.
Yep its a really frightening statistic that if all mothers BF a thousand cases of breast cancer would be prevented - sorry if you think that's me being smug- I think its me showing that we ,as women are being conned by Capitalism.

Cotto no one is being conned. We know full well breast feeding lowers the risk of breast cancer. That doesn't make people who don't want to breast feed want to breast feed or help people who can't breastfeed

But it reinforces how wonderful and superior she is.

PiperChapstick · 10/12/2015 22:25

How are we supposed to be reading it? hmm

because Sharon did not say feeding a baby formula was like feeding them beer and curry - in other words she was NOT comparing them.

She said the full and tired effect beer and curry have on an adult (and also stated Xmas dinner if you prefer) is the same effect formula has on babies. Hence why FF babies tend to sleep longer.

It's not hard

Sharoncatastrophe · 10/12/2015 22:26

Why should I post it? I've already posted it 3 FUCKING times and still, you are unable to understand plain English. What more can I do?

Cotto · 10/12/2015 22:26

Really ?
Generations of mothers are told they are inadequate and told if its a bit difficult they should FF.
A decision which will affect their health and the health of their children.
Their motherhood and instincts are under minded -"because babies should sleep through the night"
Babies should not sleep through the night -WHY is this the standard for babies when its the opposite of what is natural ????
GGRRRRRRR !!!!!

Pyjamaramadrama · 10/12/2015 22:26

I did read through the first few pages and couldn't find anyone sniping at bf.

How could they? There's no argument to be had really is there?

Sharoncatastrophe · 10/12/2015 22:27

Thank you piper- I don't think it's hard either.

Alisvolatpropiis · 10/12/2015 22:29

Cotto

Proof it will affect health of mother and baby to not breastfeed?

Also it's undermined.

PiperChapstick · 10/12/2015 22:29

As far as I'm aware, no baby has ever died from drinking formula milk!

then you may want to read this

Don't get the "babies should not sleep through" statement. Whilst seemingly less usual, sleeping through and breastfed are not mutually exclusive.

Sharoncatastrophe · 10/12/2015 22:33

There have also been a number of cases where formula been tampered with and killed babies, and also a handful of cases where batches were made incorrectly causing death and long term damage en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Infant_formula

Pyjamaramadrama · 10/12/2015 22:34

But how is slamming mothers who ff helping anyone?

All of the scare stories and guilt trips in the world don't help when your baby is feeding for hours and you are in agony.

Sharoncatastrophe · 10/12/2015 22:34

Who is slamming? None of the posters here care so they? They've all said they don't.

TaliZorah · 10/12/2015 22:35

cotto proof?

What about women who just don't want to breastfeed? Are they being undermined?

Oh and my baby sleeps through Smile he's very happy to.

There are cases where breastfeeding mothers have erroneously taken medication which has gone on to kill their babies.

It isn't proof that breastfeeding kills babies.

Human error in feeding kills babies, be it breast or formula.

Pyjamaramadrama · 10/12/2015 22:36

Quite clearly people care or there wouldn't be heated debate.
