To suggest that ff babies are generally more content than breastfed babies?

...because they are fuller for longer?

Following on from an article I read recently regarding a study that suggested that of its recipients, the ff babies were generally deemed to be more calm, easy to settle to sleep etc than breastfed babies.

I know this is bound to be a taboo subject, but I must say, as a breastfeeding mother myself to a 4 month old dd, I have considered whether she'd be more satisfied on formula. She's not the easiest of babies and, to me, seems fussier and more demanding than her formula fed peers.

For example, she is really hard to settle to sleep for naps. She will sometimes feed to sleep, but not always (I know this is a debate on itself). I have never been to the shops or out for a walk for half an hour without her fussing (even if it's just for a little bit). She will sit on my knee or go to someone else for five minutes tops before fussing and starting to cry.

I'm not doubting the benefits of the quality of breastmilk, obviously. I guess I just feel like I'm filling up a tank that's emptying as quick as it's filling^^ and that she's never fully satisfied. I know breastmilk is digested quicker, but still.

She has no issues re: reflux, tongue tie or anything either.

Of course there are behavioural differences amongst all babies, but as a general rule, what is your opinion? Interested to hear from anyone who has perhaps breastfed one baby and formula fed another.

I'm not sure what anyone can really say against breastfeeding?

TaliZorah · 10/12/2015 20:22

Senpai great post

TaliZorah · 10/12/2015 20:22

Sharon what have I said that is anti breastfeeding and gagging for a row? I think my first comment just agreed that in my experience ff babies sleep longer

jorahmormont · 10/12/2015 20:23

Feed your baby breastmilk!

Feed your baby formula!

Feed your baby chicken nuggets (after they can safely eat solids, of course)!

JUST FOR THE LOVE OF GOD FEED YOUR DAMN BABY.

No-one really gives a shit what you feed them once you're past the baby days. With only very few exceptions they all end up eating fluff, crayons and probably their own poo at some point afterwards anyway.

jorahmormont · 10/12/2015 20:24

Okay maybe it's only my child who had a taste of her own poo. She also smeared it in my hair. Kids are weird whatever you feed them.

Freezingwinter · 10/12/2015 20:24

But it's ok for benefits of ff to be listed pages back? Confused and tail I think you already mentioned on your mum uniform thread you had no body changes during pregnancy..? Grin

mrsb26 · 10/12/2015 20:24

This thread is not a support thread! The OP was asking a question about the differences between formula and breastmilk.

...and the potential impact on babies level of contentment. I think the many responses from others has answered the question (albeit anecdotally) in some detail and had provided some food for thought .

Although I can't say I'm that surprised, people now seem to have kicked off on a tangent about whether bf or ff is best, with some appearing to believe that swearing at others will help to get their point across Hmm. This thread wasn't about that!

Pyjamaramadrama · 10/12/2015 20:25

Didn't it kick off when a poster compared formula to beer and a curry?

TaliZorah · 10/12/2015 20:28

Freezing I had a tiny bump and leaky boobs, body was back to normalish 6 days pp and normal completely a few weeks after, boobs normal a few days after I stopped bf

TaliZorah · 10/12/2015 20:28

Yes it did and that poster was sharon

Sharoncatastrophe · 10/12/2015 20:32

It was indeed Grin pretend to misunderstand again, I expect nothing less

TaliZorah · 10/12/2015 20:35

Sharon if you can't see how that was offensive then you're the one with the issuec

jorahmormont · 10/12/2015 20:38

Compared to beer and a curry in the sense that it's not the gold standard for health in the way that salad is, or compared to beer and curry in the sense that it's shit?

That makes a big difference.

TaliZorah · 10/12/2015 20:40

Jorah she said "bf is like steamed chicken and veg, full of goodness and energy. Formula feeding is like beer and curry, makes people go to sleep."

Pyjamaramadrama · 10/12/2015 20:42

To be honest I didn't even see your post Sharon I just saw the replies. I've gone back but can't find it.

It's just same shit different day. Whatever mothers do they'll be shit in someone's eyes. How they feed, where they sleep, when they wean, dummies, whether they give their kid sausage rolls, whether they watch tv, whether you go back to work.

jorahmormont · 10/12/2015 20:44

Tali my response to that would be

BF is like steamed chicken and veg. Good for you, some people enjoy it but it can be fucking soul destroying for a lot of people day in day out. FF is like beer and curry, not the gold standard for health but it isn't going to hurt you and bloody enjoyable Grin

PiperChapstick · 10/12/2015 20:51

To those posting dubious studies - please see upthread the benefits copied from WHO website. I tend to follow these rather than 'independent' studies some of which are commissioned by companies affiliated with formula. Funny that

PiperChapstick · 10/12/2015 20:53

Didn't it kick off when a poster compared formula to beer and a curry?

She didn't compare them at all it was posters either being PO or not reading the post properly who took it to mean that

PiperChapstick · 10/12/2015 20:54

Seriously how are people not reading the beer and curry thing properly Confused

jorahmormont · 10/12/2015 20:58

How are we supposed to be reading it? Hmm

TaliZorah · 10/12/2015 21:23

Jorah that is brilliant Grin

Freezingwinter · 10/12/2015 21:32

I agree re studies, there's sorts of published crap available on the internet, be careful what you search for and make sure it comes from a reputable place!

Sharoncatastrophe · 10/12/2015 21:42

Jorah you didn't even bother to read it, just took talis quote, which she made up.

There are a lot of dim people on this thread.

rainbowstardrops · 10/12/2015 21:56

These bf v ff threads always make me giggle. Do you guys not realise that once your precious bundles start going to birthday parties, they eat utter junk!!! Once they get to teenagers, they eat as much junk as they can lay their hands on Grin
Chill out! As far as I'm aware, no baby has ever died from drinking formula milk! (In fact my ds was ff and was academically top of his year throughout infant and junior school!)
Get a bloody grip. A happy baby is the only priority Smile
