I think he's seen the Paris shooting as a chance to grab the limelight and feed his bloody messiah complex.

Bono*

OurBlanche · 11/12/2015 15:50

Odd, I thought much the same of the post you took me to task in.

And I'm really not defending him, just annoyed when some people resort to poorly researched or erroneous information.

It could be about anyone, anything. If you are going to get irate about something or someone then at least let the reasons be real/accurate.

squoosh · 11/12/2015 16:03

If we're not careful Bono is going to arrive on this thread in an attempt to broker a peace deal.

OurBlanche · 11/12/2015 16:07

Grin Only if there is someone with a camera and contacts with the international press!

squoosh · 11/12/2015 16:08

I think I'll reapply my lipstick just to be on the safe side!

Sallystyle · 11/12/2015 16:13

I feel like as such a massive U2 fan I should try to defend him more [Grin]

Sounds to me though like OP went searching for Bono, found a few threads online, some full of misinformation and instead of googling what is true or not just took others word for gospel.

I do believe he is sincere as well and I don't believe he does what he does for publicity. Bono is well known for keeping his family out of the tabloids as much as possible. He doesn't try to shove his private life in people's faces like many famous people. He did not need to invite EODM on stage for publicity. Why would he? He has all the money and fame he needs. I understand people not liking him, I really do. But I will never agree with the fact that he isn't sincere in what he does.

For example, my FB was full of people moaning that there was a picture in the paper of U2 laying flowers for the Paris victims. Do people honestly believe they called the press and asked them to come along so he could get his face in the paper? If they had caught Brittany Spears doing the same it would be all over the papers as well. But hey.. Bono... he must have organised it all because he needs so much publicity, it isn't like their tours sell out world wide straight away or anything! The truth is, they were due to play in Paris, why not lay flowers? I would have done if I was there.

Like him or hate him. Inviting EODM was not a publicity stunt.

Sallystyle · 11/12/2015 16:14

If Bono arrives on this thread I will die Grin

HaveNoFearBonoIsHere · 11/12/2015 16:30

Hopefully, that won't be necessary Smile

Bossytits · 11/12/2015 17:23

Ok it's an old story, but as a British/Serbian I am still angry about him.
Bono publicly repeated all media bullshit about the civil war in Bosnia, being all about Serbian aggression and nothing more. He should have learned the whole story and not just jump on the bandwagon of the popular (one side) opinion. He loves to speak out. Ok but learn the facts about these things and do not just repeat what you read in the paper.

During the civil war in Bosnia '92-'95 he publicly stood by the Bosnian Muslims side, saying that only they are suffering and that the Serbs are committing all these horrible crimes against them.

The truth is that civilians on all three sides, the Muslims, Serbs and Croats were all victims of terrible war crimes that were committed by the armies of all three sides, and that there was a civil war in Bosnia, not an aggression by Serbia, yet Bono bought into the nonsense propaganda and lies!

OurBlanche · 11/12/2015 17:33

Sadly that is how much of our media reported it, Bossy. It took months before any other information was available to us in those pre- / early-internet days.

DH worked in Bosnia in the late 90s and was very quickly disabused of the one sidedness of the conflict.

DecaffCoffeeAndRollupsPlease · 11/12/2015 18:24

He barely registers on my radar, couldn't name a single song, i must listen to a different radio station to both the lovers and the haters.

batshitlady · 11/12/2015 18:34

It's not that surprising though Bossytits. Great name BTW!! When you rub shoulders with the high and mighty it's quite likely you'll be of the same opinion as them on these things.

Whilst what OurBlancghe said is quite true, Serbia the baddies was the was the line the media took on the situation in the former Yugoslavia. But many people were sceptical at the time of the motivations of the West / NATO . I recall reading in the comments section of Newsweek, something along the lines that it was Yugoslavia's resistance to the broader trends of political and economic reform - not at all the plight of Kosovar Albanians - that best explained NATO's war.

Bono then as now can't resist flapping his gums about things he knows little about just to grab the limelight.

So much bitterness...thoroughly mean-spirited. Life is too short for a thread like this. Hmm

Ohbehave1 · 12/12/2015 09:01

U2hastheedge. How can you not see that inviting the EODM was anything more than an egotistical trip by the biggest ego head on the planet.

Bono always wants to court publicity- it's not like he has a specific cause - he just jumps on the latest bandwagon.

I used to be a U2 fan until Bonio suddenly seemed to think he was the new messiah- apart from the fact the messiah would be humble about what he is doing!

Bossytits · 12/12/2015 09:42

You like it batshitlady? Thanks. It is what they call me at work.

BTW I don't want people to feel I am complaining about them for thinking anything bad about Serbia then. I loooove so much U.K and all British people.

batshitlady · 12/12/2015 11:54

I doubt blytheandsebastian's last comment is aimed at you specifically Bossytits. If you did think they were - that is?

I think they're just a general expression of exasperation at those who are critical of Bono.

OP posts:
Sallystyle · 12/12/2015 12:03

I can't see it because I don't believe it to be true.

Shirkingfromhome · 12/12/2015 15:08

Make Bono History

It's an old headline but it still makes me Grin

Ohbehave1 · 13/12/2015 12:06

U2hastheedge. Just because he has made some money for charity doesn't make him a good person or that he is not like feeding his ego. Jimmy Saville made a huge amount for charity and made a lot of dreams come true. Didn't stop him from being a disgusting paedophile.

Sorry, but God doesn't think he is Bono unlike the other way round.

OurBlanche · 13/12/2015 12:10

Oh dear! That is low! Totally unnecessary and has turned what was a civilised disgreement into Monster Shouting lunacy!

Batshitlady, U2hastheedge, Bossytits it was fun arguing with you. Read you soon Smile

Ohbehave1 · 13/12/2015 12:26

Ourblanche. I didn't say Bonio was the same as JS. Just that saying he has raised money doesn't mean he is a saint. Using an extreme and not calling him a monster. Just someone with a messiah complex.

VenusRising · 13/12/2015 12:33

Squoosh I might have bumped BT bags with you there in the crush before taking a breather in nearys
Last year poor old Sinead o Connor was singing, but we left before the very tiny Bono started to pipe up. His voice is dreadful!

I wish he'd pay his taxes. I know evading tax is illegal, and I'm sure he doesn't do that, but it seems very dishonest to avoid them so blatantly.
Giving a free busk as part of your own Xmas eve ritual doesn't really butter the parsnips IMO.
Giving to charity warms the cockles of his heart no doubt, but being Irish isn't an opt in opt out so that your philanthropy can be recognised.

Paying tax is an essential part of being a citizen. It's morally and ethically correct to pay taxes.
Leaves a bad taste in my mouth that Bono seems to think he doesn't have to because his accountant has found a loop hole to avoid them. It's quite narcissistic isn't it?
