I think he's seen the Paris shooting as a chance to grab the limelight and feed his bloody messiah complex.

OTheHugeManatee that was an interesting article - thanks.

OurBlanche · 09/12/2015 15:53

Erm, no. He has a glaucoma. They are part of a 2 decade treatment plan to help prevent him going blind.

And remember, I think he is a twat. I would love them to be wholly an egotistical affectation. But no, the knobber has a perfectly good reason for wearing the bloody things!

Sallystyle · 09/12/2015 16:15

Yep, again, people making judgments without knowing fuck all about him Grin although to be fair, it is only pretty recently he went public with it.

OurBlanche · 09/12/2015 16:22

It was over a year ago! Google doesn't hid such stuff Smile

batshitlady · 09/12/2015 17:28

Potatoface2 That's the feller. It's no good his devotees saying stuff like "he doesn't need to do that, he's rich and a big star already etc" Why then didn't he just go backstage and have a private meet with EODM in Paris? Bono knew full well his appearance would upstage them and grab the limelight for himself. He clearly does need to feed his messiah complex or else he wouldn't feel the need to put himself at the centre of a 'music solidarity' event, this kind of stunt really helps maintain the whole contrived 'defend our civilisation' rubbish.

He seems to have a CBBC 'newsround' grasp on politics as well, he called Shimon Peres 'peace-loving'. Lauds EODM, a band that had engaged
in this little Israel-loving tirade in Tel Aviv:

www.ibtimes.co.uk/paris-attacks-eagles-death-metal-defied-pro-palestine-boycott-movement-roger-waters-play-israel-1529643

And he bloody well backed a videogame "Mercenaries 2: World in Flames,"

Which promoted the invasion and destruction of Venezuela. He hid himself away and didn't respond to concerns raised by the Venezuelan Solidarity Network about his funding of that very nasty project.

The game was made by Pandemic/Bioware Studios, (a subcontractor for the US Army and CIA funded Institute for Creative Technologies, which uses Hollywood techniques to mount war simulations in California's high desert in order to conduct military training. THis game simulates destruction in Caracas, and promises to leave no part of Venezuela untouched. Charming!
That's his whole schtick really, a hypocrite that can't resist trying to grab the glory of easy causes.

But he made Sunday, bloody Sunday? What a hero!!!

Nobel Peace Prize nominations? Unfortunately the Nobel Peace Prize doesn't mean anything anymore

OurBlanche · 09/12/2015 17:51

So having 5 Nobel Laureates present him with a Man of Peace Award is useless too, then!

Tell me, what have you done for your fellow man, recently?

Helmetbymidnight · 09/12/2015 18:01

Oh I see- so eodm should not be 'lauded' in any way.

Riiiight.

hollyisalovelyname · 09/12/2015 18:04

He annoys me with his 'do as I say not as I do'.
Not paying tax in Ireland where he and his family live ( he's not the only one I know!!!!- I hate tax exiles).
But I have to say I think his heart ( and the band's) is in the right place with this Paris concert.

Helmetbymidnight · 09/12/2015 18:07

Eodm should be shunned.
Is that what you think op?

batshitlady · 09/12/2015 18:27

Nobel laureates? Bono just adds his big name to obvious, acceptable causes and repeats what everyone knows is true, and it's all simplified and packaged for the cause and compassion market, nothing more....

He says f-all about controversial events when they're happening. He lionises figures when its safe for him to do so, Martin Luther King, (I' m guessing that if U2 had existed in the 60's they would have stayed silent on the civil rights struggle in case it offended any of their potential audience), Nelson Mandela or Aung San Suu Kyi. Talk about easy ...

What has he ever said about Edward Snowden or Julian Assange, and/or my own personal hero ~ Carmen Segarra? Or any of the brave whistle blowers that have put their careers, lives and liberty at risk to expose corruption, corporate bullying, lies and gov't coverups?? If he doesn't know about these people he sodding well should, if he's such a truth seeking hero.

'There comes a point when you have to stop worrying about saving the Whales and start worrying more about saving your bank account'. I'm roughly quoting Larry Mullen there from an interview with Q magazine circa 1996. For me it just about sums up the level of Bono/U2's genuine commitment to 'issues' - that is, their level of engagement is congruent with the benefits they themselves gain from being seen to champion this or that cause.

OP posts:
Helmetbymidnight · 09/12/2015 18:32

Mm, very interesting.

Eodm who had 89 fans massacred and narrowly survived a terrorist attack should not be supported in any way.

Okayyyyy. That's a pretty niche (terrorist supporting) point of view right there.

batshitlady · 09/12/2015 18:36

No not shunned, but he could have asked them on stage why they defied Roger Waters and the whole pro-Palestine boycott movement, to play Israel. And why they felt need launch a foul-mouthed tirade about it on stage there?

I realise someone who's moniker is : U2hastheedge is unlikely to see it my way but that's what I'd expect from this self-absorbed Jesus-man so committed to human rights and righting injustice.

OP posts:
batshitlady · 09/12/2015 18:38

(terrorist supporting) point of view Oh dear Helmet, we are struggling for an arguement now aren't we???

OP posts:
Sallystyle · 09/12/2015 18:38

Just adds his name to causes. Haha

You quote a Larry quote and put that onto Bono? Hmm Full quote would be good though if you have it please.

How do you know he has never commented on these people? Have you been to every one of his concerts? Where he does most of his speeches? You seem to know a lot about him, especially as when I googled your Larry quote all I found was the same post written on another forum.

So you don't like Bono.. doesn't mean he did anything wrong with inviting the band up. It was a touching moment.

Helmetbymidnight · 09/12/2015 18:39

Why would he need to ask them that on stage? I'm not getting it.

expatinscotland · 09/12/2015 18:40

Bonio. He's Bonio.

Sallystyle · 09/12/2015 18:42

Just interested, but was it you who wrote this?

members5.boardhost.com/medialens/msg/1449584315.html

Or are you just copying other people? Because with all the wrong information you have spouted I am kind of wondering if you just googled and repeated.

And no, I wont see it your way. I totally understand why a lot of people don't like him. I get it. I don't get what he did wrong with EODM though.

penguinsarecool · 09/12/2015 18:48

Bono is a attention seeker in it for himself. Just like all the other celebs who children in need, comic relief, etc. They always seem to have new albums, films, tv programmes, etc, coincidentally when they charity telephons are on tv. All publicity is good ;publicity afterall. But they all go home to their mansions don't they.

Helmetbymidnight · 09/12/2015 18:50

Op clearly doesn't believe eodm should be supported.

Although they are victims of one of Europes largest terrorist attacks they should not be 'lauded' instead, three weeks after the attacks, they should be interrogated on their gig history.
Perhaps they brought it on themselves, eh op.

ForalltheSaints · 09/12/2015 19:22

I have to say that when I met the Edge at a memorial service he was a friendly man, and although I did not speak to Bono he was pleasant enough to others there.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 09/12/2015 20:15

OP U2 had a concert planned in Paris which they cancelled and rescheduled. As much as I would not want to go to a U2 gig many, many people do. He did not specifically schedule this to upstage EODM.

batshitlady · 10/12/2015 12:49

Indeed I was moved by that thread (which I contributed to BTW). I have cut and pasted from it as well. Does that invalidate the point I'm making. Or change the discussion? BTW don't you find the intentions behind that videogame he funded really disturbing?

LassWith. Yes I get that, but he knew that by doing the big stage-embrace thing, the headlines would all be about him - that's my point. And If he didn't, then he should have. He could have done it discretely and let EODM tell the story if they felt the urge to. But that's not his style. Whenever there's a big event, a big issue (albeit a rather safe one), he'll be there in his sunglasses, taking the spotlight.

The man is a hypocrite, plain and simple. And there nothing he won't do in order to be the man-of-the-moment at big events. He appeared via video link at both the Labour and Tory party conferences. lavished praise on Obama and paid homage to Gordon Brown, David Cameron and Dubbya, who did "an incredible job" apparently... He even tried to talk to Sarah Palin at the US election campaign in 2008.

His biggest misdemeanour for me, is whilst he rants at governments to increase foreign aid, he hides a massive chunk of his fortune from the Irish exchequer, who could definitely use the money. See, I was saving that one till last.

OurBlanche · 10/12/2015 12:57

Crikey! At least I now understand your username, OP.

The breadth and depth of your misinformation is stunning.

Just for a start, reconsider this He says f-all about controversial events when they're happening. in light of their first 3 albums and the ensuing IRA death threats.

Basically, you are making a bit of a prat of yourself. You might want to stop and regain a little composure.

Sallystyle · 10/12/2015 13:00

Considering they are hardly in Ireland and most of their business is out of Ireland I don't think it is too awful to operate outside Ireland.

Disappointing, a little. But not a massive deal.
