Not to take the fairy lights down after Christmas?

It's taking me bleeding ages to get the blessed things up - in the kitchen, over the doors, on the mantlepiece. They look so pretty and the house is quite dark so it's useful to have a bit of extra light.

I want to leave them up permanently. But if I leave them up after 6 January am I going to spontaneously combust or be declared bankrupt (or some other curse which is supposed to happen if you don't take your Crimbo decs down after 6 Jan?)?

WWYD?

Do what you want. Life is short. :)

Your Wifi may be slower. But apart from that, remember the old saying "fairy lights are not just for Christmas".

madmother1 · 06/12/2015 20:07

I keep mine up all year. I have a set in the living room and the kitchen. It really cheers the place up.

Cocolepew · 06/12/2015 20:08

I keep mine on the mantle all year.

EponasWildDaughter · 06/12/2015 20:09

Lots of people have little lights up all year in some form or another. Think of all the different strings of lights they sell for over kids beds and in twigy home decor all year round.

Leave 'em up Grin

Op i bought a xmas decoration which i love and can be used all year around. I refused to put it up till jan 6th (i refuse to walk under ladders etc) but its been up since then. Go for it!

iamEarthymama · 06/12/2015 20:13

I love them and would happily drape them over every picture, mirror, neighbours who pop in etc!
I keep one set on over an arch, one in the kitchen and then in the window

In my defence I live in a dark terraced house surrounded by mountains so need all the cheer I can get!

Agrestic · 06/12/2015 20:50

Why would the wifi be slower..?

Princesspond · 06/12/2015 20:51

Keep them ! I love fairy lights I keep mine over the mantelpiece and on a book shelf all year round.

MrsMook · 06/12/2015 20:55

We keep them up in the conservatory as it's otherwise quite plain in there. Bunting too (some red, gold, green, some non festive colours). We rarely turn them on, but they are nice when we're entertaining.

I link the tradition more to greenery (although I doubt my fake tree really has a spirit that becomes restless after the 12th night Grin)

Thank you - a unanimous show of support and obviously not one superstitious bone in your bods.

I'm quite superstitious about Christmas Decs and they MUST come down on/by the 6th.

however, we do have fairy lights up all year round, because they're fairy lights and not specifically Christmas decs.

in my head, it's quite logical, lol.

I leave my sparkly lights up all year, round the odd window and in bowls.

It glows and looks lovely.

thornrose · 06/12/2015 21:59

Christmas lights and fairy lights are different. I have fairy lights all year round in -all- most rooms.

They are not Christmas lights I can't be arsed to take down. Grin

katemiddletonsothermum · 06/12/2015 22:48

Here we go; now do you see how long it's taken me to put these up? It'll be OK to leave them up all year, won't it? The neighbours won't mind, I'm sure.
