Univited guests for Christmas.

Have been brooding about this since yesterday. Received a Christmas card from this family we met on holiday in the summer. All very nice I am sure but note at the bottom thanking us for our kind invite for Christmas and saying they will be arriving 23rd Dec and staying until 2nd Jan.

We did not invite them!

Back story is Dad, Mum and three children at the same campsite we were staying on in the summer who decided they wanted to be best friends with us. We were polite and chatted but no more. They wanted to go round in a gang in the day which we told them didn't work for us. We wanted quiet quality time as a family, enjoying each other's company. Our two children were not keen on their three which was the decider for us. They then suggested meeting up and having dinner with us every night so we did a couple of times to keep the peace. Said our goodbyes (with a sigh of relief) at the end of the holiday and we know did not exchange addresses.

Two weeks later postcard arrives from them saying lovely it was to meet us and would love to see us again. No address so obviously no response from us. Several letters and cards since in similar vein then the Christmas card yesterday. We don't want them and have no room for them. My DPs are staying over Christmas and there is no way we can change plans and go to them.

Help, what shall we do?

Could they have sent the card to the wrong address?

Elf on the shelf is a hilarious idea, imagine if it wasn't your pil though Shock.

Silvergran68 · 06/12/2015 13:19

And they're actually invited to somewhere else?

ShebaShimmyShake · 06/12/2015 13:21

Janet and Roy is when you get a Christmas round robin from people whom you can't remember to save your life. When it happens, the noble course of action is to send your own to someone who you know won't have the faintest idea who you are...

Families are weird

giraffesCantDoThat · 06/12/2015 13:26

This has all the markings of a thread that keeps on giving.

Quick update, in the ladies.

PIL are going to his boat club Christmas lunch so not on their own on 25th. Think they would rather come to us but as they said about the club lunch took them at their word.

They are behaving as normal, well normal for them. Shouting for drinks loudly, all over us like a rash, squealing how much the DC have grown - in the fortnight since they last saw them. DD who is 2 is going to kick off I think with a screaming jag fairly soon. She hates being pulled about and fusses by DGPa who smells of cigar smoke.

but i feel for them not being invited to xmas. why not???

MrsFrankieHeck · 06/12/2015 13:29

I really really hope it's not a wind up and they turn up for Christmas.

SmokingGun · 06/12/2015 13:30

Maybe get talking about holidays and the best friends you met on your last one and how you would be over the moon to see them again.

KeepOnMoving1 · 06/12/2015 13:35

Love this and the elf ideasGrin
Please update as you go along.

crabbiearses · 06/12/2015 13:36

Im actually quite worried for you that these loons will just turn up at christmas .

OnlyLovers · 06/12/2015 13:39

How utterly weird. If it is a wind-up it's an odd one.

If they DO turn up at Christmas, look aghast and say 'What were you thinking? How did you get our address? Why the fuck would you think it was OK to invite yourselves for Christmas and not wait for a response?' Then shut the door.

Oh, get a door chain fitted beforehand if you don't have one!

A word of warning, years ago a friend from work had a surprise visit from people they had met caravanning in France. She wasnt too happy but the family had brought their caravan with them and parked it on the driveway, so were sleeping there.
They were all sitting watching Crimewatch when the couples photos appeared on screen Xmas Shock.
It turned out the man had taken his daughters away without permission from his ex wife who had no idea where they were.

This thread has made my day! Great :D

mintoil · 06/12/2015 13:46

mince pie anyone?

Stasie · 06/12/2015 13:50

I think you really have to contact the campsite and ask if they were given your details - how else could they have got your address?

And ask the campsite to contact them on your behalf as you think they are intending to turn up for a visit, and you are not happy about this.

thegoldenframe · 06/12/2015 13:52

Just warming my seat Wink

londonrach · 06/12/2015 13:53

Sits on acat's bench and takes a mince pie. Thank you mintoil. Popcorn anyone?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 06/12/2015 13:54

ChubbyMummy12 · 06/12/2015 13:55

This is brilliant. Hope it is your FIL and you don't get weirdos arriving on your door step though..

magimedi · 06/12/2015 13:58
