Univited guests for Christmas.

Have been brooding about this since yesterday. Received a Christmas card from this family we met on holiday in the summer. All very nice I am sure but note at the bottom thanking us for our kind invite for Christmas and saying they will be arriving 23rd Dec and staying until 2nd Jan.

We did not invite them!

Back story is Dad, Mum and three children at the same campsite we were staying on in the summer who decided they wanted to be best friends with us. We were polite and chatted but no more. They wanted to go round in a gang in the day which we told them didn't work for us. We wanted quiet quality time as a family, enjoying each other's company. Our two children were not keen on their three which was the decider for us. They then suggested meeting up and having dinner with us every night so we did a couple of times to keep the peace. Said our goodbyes (with a sigh of relief) at the end of the holiday and we know did not exchange addresses.

Two weeks later postcard arrives from them saying lovely it was to meet us and would love to see us again. No address so obviously no response from us. Several letters and cards since in similar vein then the Christmas card yesterday. We don't want them and have no room for them. My DPs are staying over Christmas and there is no way we can change plans and go to them.

Help, what shall we do?

OP, I think you are getting troll hunted on here Shock. I guess it's because it is such a funny and unlikely story. Anyway, I've just thought that if you want to stop the troll hunting and jokes you could take a snap of the post cards date stamp + message . You could black out any identifying details alternatively but more boringly, you could just report the troll hunters to MNHQ

FundraisingPTABitch · 07/12/2015 14:17

curly that Christmas Dinner Ticket thread got waaay too much attention. I just couldn't be bothered to even care who had paid. It could have been an accident. Maybe she had gotten soo wasted that she paid the deposit for herself by herself.

FundraisingPTABitch · 07/12/2015 14:40

I occasionally get drunk enough to buy myself lots of things I would normally not do. This is now why I avoid alcohol at department stores.

I got drunk with a friend while she was buying a bag at Chanel. Totally blanked out buying my own little gift and only remembered 3 weeks after. FML.

Am amazed at your sister's willingness to come and get the keys off you and then travel to your DPIL's house at a specific time, all for the sake of a photo of an elf in their door wreath. She must be very keen on jolly japes.

TrollSpotter · 07/12/2015 17:07

I do love a good Christmas thread
I positively save myself for moments like these

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 07/12/2015 18:12

ffs stop the troll hunting, enjoy a harmless thread for a bit of a laugh or fuck off and do something worthy elsewhere, tis funny and hurting no one.

What ^ said with Christmas bells on

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 07/12/2015 19:13

well it was a bit funny to start with, certainly not offensive to anyone, and I can't see why if you don't believe / aren't interested then why anyone bothers coming on here, tis a bit depressing when everyone just wants to prove something, i liked the old days when a laugh could be had without a bloody inquest over every minor detail. If you don't find it funny find another thread that is, if you don't believe, find another thread you do believe (and report) if it's offensive (it's not) then report. Gosh I must be getting old as I loved the humour and fun on MN when I joined and it seems sadly lacking these days Sad too many people trying to be nasty.

Sallystyle · 07/12/2015 19:18

Yes, troll threads hurts MN.

When the poster of the other thread about her Xmas dinner deposit being paid for gets accused of being a troll because someone decided she might be the same OP as this OP it hurts MN.

I cannot understand a word of this. The OP seems to be on some sort of trip and isn't making any sense.

And it's not funny, because it doesn't make sense.

I'm out of here.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 07/12/2015 20:08

U2, I think it was me who brought the Xmas dinner thread into it. I said the one I was thinking of I was sure was from last year, not the one from October. There is no record of the one from last year, so I think last year's must have been a troll thread, and removed. I'm not saying the October one is.

Jux · 08/12/2015 12:53

OP, I love your thread. I don't care whether it's true or not, any more than I wonder whether any other thread is true - I assume they all are. I like your dsis, she has a sense of humour and I don't blame her for taking the opportunity to take fil down a peg, completely harmlessly without his even knowing it. And turning it into a little joke on you as well as your 'readers'.

FIL doesn't sound nice at all. We all know that wasn't a compliment.

Troll hunters here are unnecessary here and falling into Grinch territory.

MrsWembley · 08/12/2015 19:35

^^What Jux said!

Lighten up, people, please! It's nearly Christmas Hmm

Jux · 11/12/2015 18:08

It is sad that many fun threads are deleted because a someone has called troll or sockpuppet or something, when they actually do no harm, often answer the dilemma posted (whether it is real or imagined), support the poster with lightness and laughter. MN used to be seriously good at doing that - supporting people with great wit and humour, reducing the size of the problem, wrapping it up in warmth and laughter, but finding solutions at the same time. It was like visiting my family.

reni2 · 14/12/2015 10:20

Has anybody owned up to pranking you yet, OP?

Diamondsmiles · 14/12/2015 10:41

Pranking? My money is on the holiday pals turning up next Wednesday :-)

Quietlifenotonyournelly · 15/12/2015 15:29

Popping in, hmm no update, popping out.

FundraisingPTABitch · 15/12/2015 16:16

What is happening? I can't handle the madness, I must know!!!

regains composure

slips away

CurlyhairedAssassin · 23/12/2015 15:01

Today's the day! Any sign yet, OP?

loopylou6 · 23/12/2015 15:32

Marking place

YouTheCat · 23/12/2015 15:37

Orda1 · 23/12/2015 18:48
