Wait to get parcel?

Today ne and family went out for my mums birthday dinner so not really able to stay in. While we were out a parcel was delivered for us. Some very kind neighbours have taken it in for us. Now its ten to ten and I am thinking wait until tomorrow to collect it. But then they need to keep it all night and what time do I pick up in the morning? Is it cheeky to leave them to keep it all night?

Leave it until the morning, pick it up about 10:30.

Leave it for tonight. Pick up tomorrow after 10am but keep eye on house for open curtains etc. if curtains still closed leave it for abit longer

Ok thanks. Never had to leave a parcel overnight. Feel so guilty luckily I don't think its huge. 10:30 in morning gives me time to nip out and get some choccies for them to say thanks.

London, this is the second time they have taken a parcel in for us now. Just said thanks last time and this time they took one in again and will have to keep it all night. Hence the choccies.

I had a parcel once go to a neighbour just after we moved in, I collected, thanked him and apologised for putting him out to which he replied "do I look like the effin sorting office!"

I would hate the chocolates as I often take in parcels if someone gave me chocs for doing it I would then feel the need to have to buy chocolates back if they took my parcel.

OP you do sound very lovely! In my street, we're always taking in parcels. I often get them as I'm at home with kids. It's no problem at all keeping them for a night-chocs are very kind but I don't think you need to. I kind of agree with bluebolt in that your neighbours may feel they should buy you chocolates if you ever take a parcel in for them.

Yep I agree, starting a weird chocolate giving thing is a possibility. I'm sure they've thought nothing about having it overnight. It's not like it needs looking after!

I'd be very confused if someone turned up with chocolates just because I had their parcel!

Maybe it's because I live in a flat but I take in neighbours parcels on a weekly basis and have never thought anything of it. It certainly doesn't put me out.

Maybe just take a small pack of buttons for the children. No need to feel guilty about one night.

I constantly take in my neighbours parcels, I would be confused if they gave me chocolates.

If you're getting a lot of deliveries might be worth setting up a safe place outside that they can be left in.

Gosh the neighbours and I take parcels in for each other all the time. Chocs don't seem to have occurred to any of us. It's not a biggie if you'd do the same for them surely?

Not sure why keeping a parcel overnight would be such an inconvenience?

I wouldn't bring chocolates this time, a thank you sounds enough. I too would be a bit embarrassed if a neighbour felt the need to give me something for keeping a parcel!

However, I would bring them chocolate with a Christmas card in a couple of week to thank them for their help this year.

Wouldn't take chocs round. It sets an awkward precedent. I have weeks where I take in 6-8 parcels for people... The largest was a bike, and honestly I don't mind at all.
My neighbours do other things and take in parcels if I'm out. Just one of the things neighbours do without a fuss.

Won't lie it is fucking annoying taking parcels in, they aren't small either the ones I get lumbered with. I was in the bath last week and my 6 year old was off sick, door knocks I told her not to open it, too late and the cheeky fucker of a delivery bloke threw a massive size of a surfboard parcel in for nxt door. Pissed off weren't the word I had the buggy in the hallway as was raining and had to blitz and sort my hallway that day too. And I had to send one of the kids to tell her to come fetch it! I always make sure I'm in if I have parcels coming.

I work at home so I always take in parcels for my neighbours. My friends who work full time have their parcels at this time of year delivered to my house too - last week I had about 12 in one day

It doesn't bother me at all and I certainly wouldn't expect chocolates for it. A simple thank you us more than enough.

Parcel safely picked up earlier today. I was right, it wasn't huge. No choccies given just a thank you. Neighbours seem ok about having taken it in for us. Thanks for the advice on when to pick up and whether or not to give choccies.

I had a parcel that got left in the pub over the road once, I didn't even buy a drink when I collected it lol (I had not asked for it to go there)

I left a (small) parcel with my neighbours for three days this summer! I was out from 8am til about 10pm and knew they had small children so thought leaving it with thrm was preferable to disturbing them that late. They had plenty for me over time, never made a thing of it, and were very apologetic when their young son had opened an Amazon parcel thinking it was for them (I wasn't bothered)
