AIBU?

To report this busker?

For the past couple of weeks there has been a busker on my train. Halfway through my journey I hear a boom box start then I have to listen to his shitty, unbelievably loud trumpet playing for the rest of my commute.

I'm a busy mum. I really treasure that time on the train as my quiet time, when I can listen to music that doesn't make me want to pull my own ears off. His presence thoroughly fucks me off. If you're going to busk, do it where people have the choice to walk away and not have to hear you.

I'm fairly sure it's illegal and I know I'm being a grumpy cow, but I also know the parents of the babies he's waking up and the people who tell him to get lost as he walks up and down the carriage asking for money don't appreciate it either.

WIBU to report him? And who to?

I love to hear trumpet music. It licks over the folds of my inner soul and awakens places of my brain I never knew existed. Oh, the memories... Swap places with you OP.

Yanbu. I would complain. Especially if he is asking for money.

They're not allowed to busk on trains are they?
Busking is in pre designated areas. I'm certain these aren't on transport. Sorry, I'd report.

I'm sure they're not allowed ChinaSorrows- I told him such and he just said, "Ok ok!" And walked away.

I see your trumpet and raise you a kid playing the the same few bars badly over and over on the accordion. Used to have to put up with him every other day on the Circle line coming home from work about ten years ago - not what you want after a long day at work. Reported him at a station and the man confirmed that he made more in a day than I did in a week but said there's not much they could do about it. Fucker.

OMG that's really annoying. I would report and not care about being grumpy.

Airedale line. Total dickhead. Just spoke to a friend who reported him last week so obviously that's made no difference 😑

Remember years ago at Covent Garden market they had a busker there using an odd sort of electric guitar and a echoplex and something else, but the sounds he got were fantastic. There was a huge crowd gathered and the applause went on for ages. There was also a young girl singing some opera arias she was stunning filled the place with her voice:-)

Suppose some buskers are better than others;?.

Wonder if Alison Balsom started out on the tube;?.

On the train? That's mad!

People can be total dicks to buskers - I had a woman reduce me to tears and tell me to "f* off back to where you came from" (I was busking in my home town and am white, along with 99% of the population of that rural backwater) - but there's no excuse for busking on a train when people can't get away from it.

He plays in the doorways while the train's moving, then walks up and down the carriages asking for money. I've seen a few people complaining about him on social media too.
Who should I speak to? BTP?

Jeezz !, just noticed he was ON the train!. Thought he was just on a platform somewhere. It is a wonder that the rail authorities can't shut him up?.

On hang on, they've got to get the trains to run to time to justify the next fare increase that's here soon;(

People try to make a living the best they can with what they've got. I think complaining about buskers is a tad unreasonable tbh. What do you want, a police state like in South America where undesirables are "disappeared". No state benefits, crap Jobs with crap conditions I think busking is to be to,erased at the least.

Toohardtofindaproperusername · 05/12/2015 20:26

To be tolerated not "to be erased" (that's the South American policy referred to earlier).

I don't care if it the London Philharmonic Orchestra. If I am on a train, I don't expect to hear music.

Trying to make a living as best you can is fair enough. Busking on a train is not the best way.
Busk by all means but somewhere people can escape from it.

Justaboy · 05/12/2015 20:33

Its bad enough that tizz-tizz from people with earphones on they must be deaf if i can hear it sitting opposite them!

MadeMan · 05/12/2015 20:34

Always carry a spare pair of rolled up socks for this very reason; you can stuff them up the end of his trumpet.
