In thinking that the anti-choice brigade in Northern Ireland have possibly sunk to an all time low?

Listening to the stephen nolan radio show on radio Ulster this morning, a caller phoned to say that she had been forced by her family to have an abortion after being raped at age 13. If this was a genuine caller then she has my utmost sympathy however I found it just so strange that she skirted over the rape so unemotionally saying she "had put it behind her" while instead being so very angry about the abortion and suffering abortion trauma, she had such little empathy for others in a similar position believing that no abortion should ever be allowed. I can't help thinking she is severely in need of psychological help or worse is someone from that Bernie woman's life group ?

I wouldn't be surprised at all if she was from Bernie Smyth's group. They would stoop to having people lie on the radio or preying on the vulnerable.

Even if is real, it isn't relevant to legalities. It would be an awful thing to happen to an individual, and trauma afterwards would probably be highly likely, but nobody's campaigning for forced abortion. People want the choice to decide what is best for them. Forcing somebody to give birth would also be pretty traumatic, I know I wouldn't have coped at all well had I not been allowed to terminate.

I was pressured into an abortion at 19. I actually think it was probably for the best. But I still feel very angry about being forced.

Bad experiences do funny things to people. If it's true then perhaps being angry about that has allowed her to somehow suppress the trauma of the rape. Or maybe she feels that she can look at herself rationally as a victim of the rape, but is somehow culpable for the abortion which was forced on her.

If it's real I can sort of understand it. But it's also a good reminder why these sort of legal decisions are often best made soberly in a court rather than by people driven by emotion.

Hmm chances are it was fake, imo.

But it has probably happened.

If it's true she probably does need some more help.

Because you have had a bad experience with something, it doesn't mean it should not be available to other people as a choice.

It was just her whole manner seemed a bit odd, it's an awful story and I'm sure there are lots similar unfortunately in this backward country of mine :( religious parents brush it under the carpet and don't report their 13 yr olds rape maybe even because it's a friend or family member ! It was her complete lack of empathy to understand that other women should have the right to choose ?

There has to be some irony in being angry at being forced into doing something you didn't want to do, whilst at the same time wanting to force other women into doing something they don't want to do, surely??
