to hate it when people combine the words 'as' and 'well'

I can live with most syntactic/spelling errors. But for some reason 'aswell' really grates on me.

It's two words! There is no such word as 'aswell'!

It's getting being used more and more commonly.

So we want people to leave an obvious gap between the words as and well, Every Time they speak so you know they know it's two words.

By the by (don't ask me how that is spelt!), 'as well' makes no sense as two separate words. But 'aswell' makes sense to me?

Our local pub has a sign on a chalk board which includes the word 'alot'. It's been commented on, but nothing happened until yesterday when I noticed it now says 'a lot' - but only because someone must have snuck behind the bar and rubbed out the 'joiner' between the 'a' and 'lot'

I am thinking of "alot" more than "aswell", which you don't see as much.

Good grief, I've escaped this so far, now I'm going to start seeing it everywhere. I hate alot, and never understand why people think it's correct given that they wouldn't write alittle. I would definitely hate hate hate aswell.

No. The fact that a few people make the same mistake doesn't render their mistake correct usage. Look at the number of people who write "could of" which will never be correct, due to the fact that "of" isn't a verb.

I am scottish and say ano for I know unless im at work and use my English proper words

Saying 'ano' is fine - it's your accent & dialect. I love different accents Writing it though....well, I get unnecessarily twitchy
