To wonder how a 'satirical' thread is deemed 'not in the spirit' of this site...

... and deleted toot suite, and to feel sad for the seeming decline of satire in general?

There is still a variety of satirical websites, publications and similar. But I feel not so much mainstream content ie regular popular tv programmes, aired at peak times. I also sense that satire is often misunderstood or that many people either don't ' get it' or refuse to get it. I long for an extra few tv and radio programmes dedicated to the satire of everyone and everything, from the great and the good to your everyday people.

Please someone reassure me that satire isn't dying or disappearing from the public consciousness? I think it plays an important role in politics, culture you name it.

Not quite a TAAT - more a personal concern that satire just seems to be slowly shrinking as a means of commentary in the UK.

celebrate celeb

QueenArseClangers · 30/11/2015 14:05

waves it was my thread.

Unfortunately, is is becoming more and more common, people didn't RTFT.
It was copied from a fb page, which I made clear, but many posters told me I was mad, needed a straight jacket etc. (didn't see me complaining about using MH disablist tropes which I rightfully could) and told me I was 'sick'.
It was NOT about PA's children, it was a story about goats.
Think if I post the I See You post about the awful Britain First racists it'll get deleted too...?

FellOffMyUnicorn · 30/11/2015 14:07

i also got bored less than half way through

i hate when the Op is lazy and just copies and pastes! hello!! its a discussion site, how about you frickin discuss. Did you need to paste all of it? - as there was a lot, howabout snippets and a link??

QueenArseClangers · 30/11/2015 14:07

And please, to those who didn't, in the nicest way possible, in future READ THE FULL THREAD.
Thank you.

FellOffMyUnicorn · 30/11/2015 14:08

you didnt make it clear until later in the thread, (yes it was quite early on, but not on the op)

raranah · 30/11/2015 14:08

Girls ive reported this thread.

FellOffMyUnicorn · 30/11/2015 14:08

and sometimes we dont have time to read the whole thread, we are busy, we are looking at while we wait for the kettle to boil, or to be next in line a the ATM and we get bored (in the nicest possible way)

BishopBrennansArse · 30/11/2015 14:10

Do you want a nice shiny medal for that?

'Girls'??????

TwoSmellyDogs · 30/11/2015 14:11

I love Private Eye and read The Daily Mash - well - daily. I love humour in almost all of it's forms and satire is incredibly important but that Peter Andre thing is about as funny as a cold sick sandwich. It's cruel, unnecessary and incredibly badly written.
I think it should have stayed - we need warning about the kind of people who find such personal unpleasantness funny. Who posted the most Grin's? Hmm.
I couldn't really care less about Peter Andre but the obsession some on MN have with doing him down is, frankly, fucking weird. Who's he hurting? What bad is he doing? Just drop it - it's horrible behaviour and says a very great deal more about the person saying it than it does about the target.

TwoSmellyDogs · 30/11/2015 14:12

Oh ignore rara and the 'girls' - it's on purpose to wind up. Same as she uses 'hun' and starts bloody food threads. Or celebs. All so very last decade but it goes on and on and on in many ids.

QueenArseClangers · 30/11/2015 14:14

raranah I don't think you should judge after your Cheryl Cole thread where you said it was fine to call someone a 'black bitch'.
And DFOD with 'girls'

QueenArseClangers · 30/11/2015 14:15

Unicorn, I believe I started with 'cut from the I See You FB page...Confused

Daisysbear · 30/11/2015 14:15

"I think it should have stayed - we need warning about the kind of people who find such personal unpleasantness funny. Who posted the most grin's? hmm. "

Oh dear Lord!

hazeyjane · 30/11/2015 14:16

I thought it was well written! As are some of the other 'I see you(s)..' they have entertained me whilst stuck at home with a poorly dd.

It was obvious in the op that it was written by someone else.

raranah · 30/11/2015 14:18

I didn't say it was fine to say that at all.Hmm

QueenArseClangers · 30/11/2015 14:18

Thanks hazeyjane, been meaning to ask; are you a Phil Rickman fan?

TwoSmellyDogs · 30/11/2015 14:19

Never mind your 'dear Lord' daisy - you know perfectly well what I mean by that. It is often said on MN with reference to various things - usually against people who vote Tory or go to church or something else that is easy to sneer at!

hazeyjane · 30/11/2015 14:23

Is that the crime writer? Another mumsnetter recommended his books, and I bought one before I remembered that I lost the ability to read a whole book when I had dd1 (I blame mumsnet, it has rotted my brain) - but maybe I will try again! I was listening to Nick Drake when I first posted on MN, which is why I am Hazeyjane. Smile

BoreOfWhabylon · 30/11/2015 14:24

Queen I read the thread. I certainly understood from your OP that it was copied from FB.

QueenArseClangers · 30/11/2015 14:24

Do hope the bosom hoikers don't ever have the misfortune to stumble across a copy of Viz.

HirplesWithHaggis · 30/11/2015 14:24

Having just read the Britain First one (from my FB wall) before reading the PA one, it was obvious to me the same writer was involved. And yes, OP did say it was a c&p job, and yes, some of the reactions I read were ott.

But it still wasn't funny.

(The Britain First one does contain some very funny snarks, though.)

QueenArseClangers · 30/11/2015 14:25

Yep Hazeyjane, lots of ND references too. He's ace.

Excited101 · 30/11/2015 14:25

It was almost TOO well written, the idea was quite funny and I like a good bit of satire but that thread was weird in a very unhinged way. It probably should have been funnier than it was.

That said, I don't think it needed deleting.

FellOffMyUnicorn · 30/11/2015 14:25

fair enough, i missed that bit - apologies

did you make any comment on it, or just copy/paste?

QueenArseClangers · 30/11/2015 14:26

Cheers Bore
