Guys that lie about their age on online dating are immediate blocks

I just don't get it, some say 40 but must be at least 60. They are either advertising that they are a lier or have aged horrifically.

Then there are the ones that have a date like 1965 in their name and still lie about their age, so they are a lier and very stupid.

Why do they even bother.

Can I post a photo here if it is their main publicly visible profile? Or will that get it deleted?

I used to get the ones that claimed to be 40 but were really under 25.

Lying about your age is not good, but I'd say in the list of potential crimes it's not really up there, is it? Especially if all you have to go on is how some poor bloke looks in a tiny photo!

Why do they do this?

I'm 35, often get mistaken for a student and am frequently ID-ed in off licences. If i was internet dating I'd much rather be thought of as not looking my real age than sticking down 25 and people thinking ' bloody hell he looks knackered for 20 something'

Well, DH did lie about his age - by 1 year.

He confessed on our first meeting. He just didn't want to go into the next age bracket - and put off potential dates in my age bracket (there are only 3 years between us).

To my knowledge that is the only thing he has lied about - and we have been together almost 10 years now.

It's the ones which lie about their height that bugged me! No mate, you are so NOT 5ft 10". It's obvious upon meeting that they are 3" shorter than that.

I don't think it's remotely harsh to block them if you know they're lying about their age.

It's not a good start, is it? Lying before you've even met someone.

I'd also like to add people who use photos that are ten years, four stone and about 50,000 active hair follicles out of date to the banned list.

Yeah, but does she know they're lying? I take the point about Mr 1965, but come on. Someone who looks much older than they are might be on an online dating site because they're not having much luck ... precisely because they don't look too good for their age!

I wouldn't want to date someone who lied about anything, but I don't think they deserve public shaming on MN because of it - if you're going to shame someone, shame the sleazy fuckers who send aggressive sex chats and then get angry when you turn them down.

It's an odd one because (apart from someone's date of birth not matching their age) you have no idea if they are lying.

They may just look old for their age, bad picture etc.

It wouldn't put off completely but would make me weary.

And trust me, women do it too. It's not a man thing.

Sometimes they say 45 in their profile but their age comes up as 46 or 47 on searches because they don't keep their profile up to date. That's not a biggie. It's when pics taken from the 80s are used that put me off.

My favourite OLD ever was many, many years ago: we were due to meet in a local cafe, but I decided I had been stood up as I couldn't see my date. As I got up to leave, an elderly man asked if I was hefzi - he had put up a picture of his grandson, as he thought women would think he was too old otherwise...
