I asked for two perfectly ripe. I've got s grim looking bag of halves that need 8 hours to defrost.

Surely these will taste like shit once defrosted? Aibu to dump him?

I have bought some to try, i'm really intrigued how they will turn out. ..*fully prepared to be disappointed....

AnonymousBird · 27/11/2015 19:46

They are tested for safety, not for texture and taste!! So they may well pass, but still be vile.

Report back please, anyone who tries them.

AimUnder · 27/11/2015 19:47

Can you please try them and let us know how it goes? I want to use them for smoothies

G1veMeStrength · 27/11/2015 19:53

I read about these somewhere, I think it's a great idea - the producer has flash super duper freezers not like us plebs at home, so they said they turn out ok. I love avocado but I can never time the bastards right.

Paintedhandprints · 27/11/2015 21:50

Shit, I bought some of these cos ds loves avocado but fresh are so expensive. Doh! looks like I'll be doing a lot of weird smoothies. Confused

hibbleddible · 27/11/2015 21:51

Can anyone report back what they taste like? What's their texture like? I'm intrigued.

lovemyway · 27/11/2015 22:04

No they must test for quality and taste when defrosted otherwise nobody would buy them more than once, surely.

AimUnder · 27/11/2015 22:07

Unfortunately not in stock for delivery in our Tesco

TooDamnSarky · 27/11/2015 22:10

I was served frozen guacamole in a wetherspoons once.

Scotinoz · 27/11/2015 22:15

Frozen avo...totally a thing! Well, you get them in every freezer cabinet in the supermarkets in my area of Oz.

Good for smoothies, spreading on sarnies, toast, dips etc.

lovemyway · 27/11/2015 22:18

Read the reviews at the bottom of my link.

Blu · 27/11/2015 22:18

I bought a bag as an experiment: perfect looking avocado halves and much, much cheaper than fresh.

So far I have only used them for guacamole, and they were fine. De frosted without going brown or losing shape. The did taste a bit watery, more like those shiny smooth avocados than the knobbly hass ones. But with a good slug of lime, and salt and chili they were great.

DollyMcDolly · 27/11/2015 22:21

I worked in a kitchen that used frozen avocados. They were put on salads and sandwiches. I'm assuming they were fine. No one ever complained.

HemanOrSheRa · 27/11/2015 22:22

YOU CAN BUY FROZEN AVOCADO??? Good grief. This is life changing stuff. I love avocado. DS and DP hate them.

Yseulte · 27/11/2015 22:31

I once made my father avocado soup and he cooked it.

cheapskatemum · 27/11/2015 22:36

If he was in Tescos, he did the best thing possible regarding avocados. Tescos fresh avocados are never ripe when you buy them. I've waited 2 weeks for them to ripen! I got vouchers for those frozen ones and was really looking forward to trying them. Typically, my local tiny useless Tescos didn't stock them Envy enjoy your guacamole!

minifingerz · 27/11/2015 22:44

What is the problem buying ripe avocados?

Aldi - two in a pack, £1.57 or summat. Perfect every time.

DyslexicScientist · 28/11/2015 07:41

I've found the aldi and lidl PR cados to be very hit and miss. Waitrose on the other hand are incread!

Girls I'm taking one for the team, I've defrosted half of the bag and will be trying for lunch.

Aldis avocados are usually grim. They are always over ripe and turning to mush.

WaitrosePigeon · 28/11/2015 08:03

Frozen! I practically live on avocados and I've never heard of frozen ones. How utterly grim.

MissHooliesCardigan · 28/11/2015 08:45

DH bought these a few weeks ago. I eat a lot of avocados and DH is a bit of a tight wad so I think he bought them to save money. I put half a one in a chicken wrap. It was not pleasant but the cat loved it.

NigelLikesSalad · 28/11/2015 09:03

I've just put one in the fridge to defrost and eat later....I shall report back!

Bunbaker · 28/11/2015 09:03

"Aldis avocados are usually grim. They are always over ripe and turning to mush."

That's been my experience as well. Generally I find their fresh veg goes off very quickly and don't buy them from Aldi.

Youareyou · 28/11/2015 09:10

I have a bag of these in my freezer. Was fed up of taking an avocado to work that turned out to be black and mushy or too hard. I have not tried. Then yet though.
