To think Hermes delivery are idiotic useless twats!

I accidentally found out my boyfriend has bought me a beautiful Micheal Kors watch for Christmas (I admired one in a shop the other day then saw the 'checkout' page up on our shared pc and he'd bought one) he doesn't know I know and I was going to pretend to be very very surprised (not used to pricey gifts anyway!)

Anyway the muppet got it delivered to our block of flats rather than his work. Neither of us are expecting any other delivery so when I popped home between shifts today there was a little Hermes card on the mat and I knew it must be for the watch.

Courier had apparently left it on top of our electricity box outside the front door. There's nothing there Sad

Builders are working on the scaffolding directly outside and in full view of front door but obviously it would be very easy for anyone to take!

No contact number on card. Watch was on a pre Black Friday flash sale thing so not sure he'd be able to get the same one again.

Bloody Hermes bastards. why would you just leave something somewhere where it could very obviously go missing?!

"I used to do this when I was often out all day. My experience of it was patchy in terms of actual delivery - paying extra might be worth it if you had some faith it might happen."

Oh of course...I just mean, I deliver to houses where no-one is in until about 7 and without breaking in or climbing over their locked gate, I can't leave it and after trying the closest 4 or 5 houses, I give up on neighbours as well.

When you card them they phone and tell you when they will be in, like I'm going to go back out at 8 o'clock at night Hmm even I'm not that nice, lol.

If you've paid for standard delivery or it's free delivery - you can't really expect people to wait until you get back from work at that time?

I mean if I'm ordering things online with free delivery, I know that means anytime within about 3-5 days, not just when it suits me...if I need it to be a specific day, I'll pay for that and then complain when it doesn't turn up, lol.

CrohnicallyAspie · 27/11/2015 18:13

I don't pay extra for named day delivery because I can't take annual leave from work, so it makes no odds which day they try and deliver!

LavenderRain · 27/11/2015 18:14

My Hermes lady is usually fab, she will leave a parcel in our agreed place if I'm not in,
Last week tho I decided to have 2 parcels delivered to the local Hermes collection point, a shop just down the road, as I knew I wouldn't be in.

I duly received a txt message with a special pin to collect the parcels.
The shop assistant fetched the parcels but could only let me have one of them as the delivery driver hadn't scanned the other one Confused
So, even tho I was within inches of my parcel I wasn't allowed to have it,

I was not a happy bunny!

CrohnicallyAspie · 27/11/2015 18:16

Ps I'd be happy with it being dropped off at the local depot and collecting it, as Royal Mail and a couple of other parcel companies do. It actually annoys me when you get carded and there's no 'collect from depot' option.

tabulahrasa · 27/11/2015 18:22

" It actually annoys me when you get carded and there's no 'collect from depot' option."

That's the company, there isn't actually a depot to collect from, once the courier has the parcel it stays with them until it's delivered or returned and the sub depot I collect from isn't even open all day to leave things in.

It's a weird set up if you ask me, I assume that's one of the reasons they're cheap to use.

SuperT3d · 27/11/2015 18:32

Normally the only thing that is courier delivered to ours is dog food and that is delivered by dpd, who are awesome. You get a date texted to you first (you can change the date or ask for it to be left with a neighbour if the date doesn't work for you), on the day you get a 1hour time slot and are told your drivers name. If driver gets lost or is running late the driver rings you them self to let you know. Dpd rock and are now my preferred courier by far!

Amazon usually deliver using royal mail. Our postman delivers to my work before reaching my house so if I'm there he delivers my stuff to work or leaves it in my safe place if its heavy or very big. If I'm not there he knocks on the door... Dogs go mad when they hear anyone walk up the drive so not likely that I'll not know anyone's there. Why my most recent delivery is with Hermes I don't know but it's already 2 days late according to my parcel tracker and amazons delivery date thing.

BoxofSnails · 27/11/2015 18:35

That would be really disappointing OP. I hope you get it sorted.
Our experience has been very good, one of the few people I always tip at Christmas (hmm, is that a MN taboo, I seem to remember) because we get service that's above and beyond.

sadwidow28 · 27/11/2015 18:45

Apparently the website he bought it from have tried calling the driver from Hermes, no succes, so they've sent a message to his handheld device thingy which he 'has' to respond to in 24 hours

Just to answer this for the OP.

Your retailer is contacting THEIR collection courier. That isn't the courier person who actually delivered to your address. They do get messages on their hand-held scanner (but that is down-loaded via computer overnight - about 4am in the morning).

Your retailer needs to speak to Customer Services. They will contact the Field Manager of the COURIER DELIVERY PERSON who oversees the self-employed couriers in your area.

If you want to try ringing that Customer Service number - do so. CS WILL discuss with you because you have a MyHermes delivery card.

Have your Tracking No ready and say you have a card, where was parcel left? CS will be able to see everything from collection, local hub, national hub, out ot courier, delivered. (And they see more than you or I see on our tracking info). They will have name and contact No of your delivery courier, the name of their field manager and contact number.

Customer Services are open 8am-8pm Monday to Friday and 8am-6pm on weekends.

You can also do webchat by logging in with name/address, your Tracking No (that's in your email) and your postcode.

If you use the telephone No I gave, you get a REAL PERSON which is one of the reasons I like myHermes.

littlefrenchonion · 27/11/2015 23:17

I've had one throw a package over a wall, one package put in our recycling bin and another one where I missed a delivery and phoned for re-delivery. Got through to the blokes wife (I had no idea they were personal phone numbers, it doesn't indicate it on the card), who proceeded to have a go at me because she was sleeping (it was 9am) and I woke her up! I complained to myhermes both times and have not received anything, not even an email. Terrible!

sparkofnaturesfire · 28/11/2015 11:37

Wish I hadn't read this! Have just received an email saying my order from Amazon has arrived at the Hermes courier Hmm

I live in a secure entry apartment and over the years have had a few nightmares with deliveries so get everything delivered to my mum's now. However I ordered something for my dad for Christmas (expensive) and got it delivered to my home in case the parcel gave anything away with the company name etc. Got home from work yesterday and the postman had left it leaning against my front door in full view!! Not happy!

sparkofnaturesfire · 28/11/2015 11:39

I had another delivery from Hermes actually the other night at 9.30pm!!!! I forgot to change the delivery address in my rush to order.

DP answered the door and the driver said parcel for spark and then said he'd spoken to me earlier and I'd said it would be okay to deliver at that time! Eh, no. I certainly never spoke to him!

sadwidow28 · 01/12/2015 18:58

But self-employed couriers work up until 10pm at night.

My RM postman calls at 7am in the morning with parcel deliveries if they have to come on the van. Fortunately, I am up and ready to walk the dog so it doesn't bother me, but it doesn't suit everyone. I take in all the neighbours' parcels as well and postie puts a card through letter boxes.

ComposHatComesBack · 01/12/2015 19:14

Fucking useless bastards Herpes.

I came home too discover a note to say the pair of shoes I'd ordered had a left on the doorstep all day: quelle surprise they'd been stolen. Contacted the delivery driver who came round and gobbed off for five minutes until I asked if it was company policy to leave stuff unattended and should I get in touch with head office to confirm the policy? He beat a hasty retreat.

I was visiting my parents and waited in for a laptop my dad had ordered. Waited in all day, no sign of the laptop. Then my dad went out to the back garden to find the laptop had been flung over a 7ft wall and onto the backyard. Miraculously it was undamaged.

I avoid using companies that uses this delivery 'service' whenever I can.

I had a Hermes delivery today. They put my parcel in my wheelie bin. The bin that is full of bags of waste and dog poos (bagged) and muddy garden waste. The bag was rank when i brought it in.

ouryve · 01/12/2015 19:36

Our Hermes guy is pretty fab. He's a local guy and pretty much knows all his regulars. If he can't leave with a neighbour, he's sensible enough to use one of the various recycling bins we have. He also avoids school runs, as he tends to be doing one himself, at that time.

aituahi · 06/05/2018 10:45

Disgraceful service. A luggage bag sent from Luton to Glasgow in April 2018 went missing - stolen by their staff. Last tracking showed it arrived Glasgow but between their depot and the recipients house it went missing. Their compensation scheme was also ridiculous. My mum who lives oversea was disappointed that a crap service like this is allowed in the courier sector. Please do not use them. Do trust them unless you are sending dead Autumn leaves to nobody.
Gabriel.

baldric131 · 06/09/2018 16:34

have to agree with people here hermes have a bad rep one parcel i was expecting the driver called me saying he was in a hurry and could i wait outside so i did he handed me the item and went off i could have been anyone out there, next one as i live in a flat and others there been looking out for him and never saw him turn up then i got the email that it was delivered about an hour ago luckly it was still downstairs and got it but could have been different.

then the last one i had from them said it was delivered nothing there, tried to get in touch with them they told me it was delivered and to contact the seller, as it was a private sale the person only showed me tracking data to show it was delivered even though i did not have it and even ebay went with the seller on the decision ment i was left out of pocket while the driver went on to sell it i guess.

And right now im waiting for the same guy to come to deliver 3 items to me not seen him yet and got to leave for work in 30 mins so that means it will prob come when im at work and ill loose the items as the outer door to the flats has no lock on it

I have to say my local Hermes delivery lady is brilliant - never had a problem at all. Our road was inaccessible a few months back due to resurfacing and I had a text saying the parcel would be redelivered the next day, which I was happy with. Much later that night after the road had reopened there was a knock at the door and the courier had come back to deliver the parcel. She's always really reliable.

DaphneDiligaf · 10/12/2018 17:31

I use a local shop for drop off and pick up so my only problem is not buying all the lovely chocolate you are left staring at while owner fetches parcel.

Ooh I'm worried now. I'm expecting a delivery tomorrow, so I hope s/he doesn't rush off. It's a mobility scooter for DH and I've been told they will only come to the front door of the building (we live in a ground floor flat) I hope I can carry it!

Maidofastolat30744 · 10/12/2018 18:12

I used to be a Hermes courier and went out of my way for all my customers. I never had any complaints, some of them knew where I lived and would phone to see if they could drop returns off to me!

The Hermes courier where I am now is amazing, I can text him when I know I am getting a parcel and he will bring it to work if I ask, he knows our car so if it's not there he tries the door in case someone is in, and pops the parcel in. But he tends to come around 6pm as he knows there is usually someone in.

I like it when something is Hermes or DPD (local chap is courier so same applies) as I know it will be fine, far prefer it to Yodel.

Fluffyears · 10/12/2018 18:19

We had a card saying parcel was under wheelie bin. Nothing there and we hadn’t ordered anything or were expecting a delivery. Card didn’t have an address so I assume it may have been for a neighbour.
