to find the House of Fraser Christmas advert just............... naff and to dislike the grabbiness of it.

I really don't like it. I am sure it is meant to be edgy and alternative (in as much as a major department store can be either of those things) but I find it self-conscious and naff and it actually illustrats - ironically they might say but I don't think so- the grabbiness of Christmas and how self-absorbed and entitled many people are.

PS I do know it is meant to be 'clever' in some way and a comment on Christmas but it sort of self-implodes because it is selling Christmas and its intention is to make money from it.

But the Aldi one made me Grin

WannabeLaraCroft · 26/11/2015 20:46

YANBU.

It's awful.

molyholy · 26/11/2015 20:48

Yanbu. It is beyond pretentious. Makes me roll my eyes so hard, I can practically see my optic nerves.

LuluJakey1 · 26/11/2015 20:56

Yes, absolutely beyond pretentious and affected. I can not bear to watch it.

I am not enjoying many of the Christmas ads this year (bah humbug). I obviously understand they are for selling, but they all seemso grabby and 'spend this much and is shows you really love someone'

I did laugh at the aldi one though. Grin

HelenaDove · 26/11/2015 21:08

I agree. OP I love the Sainsburys Mog the Cat ad though.

Have you seen the Aldi parody of the John Lewis ad yet?

Costacoffeeplease · 26/11/2015 21:08

I hate the PayPal one - mega grabby

frikadela01 · 26/11/2015 21:12

I hate all the Christmas ads this year.... what happened to actually having christmas music in them?

BrendaandEddie · 26/11/2015 21:13

LOVE IT

tillytown · 26/11/2015 21:19

Is that the advert with the dancing? If it is then yanbu, its annoying.

LuluJakey1 · 26/11/2015 21:33

Yes Tillytown the one qith the dinner table where they all bang knives and forks, and the dancing and the aggressive women and men.

Looks like me & Brenda are the voices in the wilderness: I love it too...

Not sickly, not mushy, not sentimental, not cloying.

Yup. Love it.

Notso · 26/11/2015 22:06

It's awful. I haven't seen a Christmas advert I've liked this year though.

LuluJakey1 · 26/11/2015 22:08

I agree with not sickly, sentimental or cloying but fnd it pretentious, affected and almost ridiculing itself in how self-admiring it is. I really loathe it. Have never reacted to an advert so strongly. It is distasteful in every way I think.

SurferJet · 26/11/2015 22:10

I love it. Beats all the sentimental crap.

Costacoffeeplease · 26/11/2015 22:10

I like the house of Fraser one actually, now I've remembered what it is Blush

reallybadidea · 26/11/2015 22:11

Makes a pleasant change from the sentimental, schmaltzy ones.

EmilyPunkhurst · 26/11/2015 22:11

It's interesting really, because usually when I loathe an advert I just say to myself that I'm clearly not the target audience.

But given that most of MN surely are the target audience for HoF and, so far, only two of us like it, they've clearly got it a bit wrong.

Either that or they only want £ from me and Brenda...

EmilyPunkhurst · 26/11/2015 22:12

Oooh, suddenly I'm in a posse. Grin

SurferJet · 26/11/2015 22:14

LaContessaDiPlump · 26/11/2015 22:14

I really liked that!

Celticlassie · 26/11/2015 22:19

Ooh - how strange. I found it a bit uncomfortable to watch to be honest.
