Headlice shampoo for ds.

He is forever catching the awful things!

We are still working on getting him to do anything properly he can spend 40 minutes in the shower and still stink!

So until he bothers to brush and comb properly, can we use the shampoo more than the twice it says on the packet?

He is 12. He has 'the lazy'.

He can't be the only one? So, until these bugs are out of his class, can he use the bug shampoo every Monday night?

I'm sure I've read that adding tea tree oil to your regular shampoo keeps them away. Anyone else?

Yab s bit unreasonable because it will cause the nits to become immune to the treatment if you use it too often. Get a nitty gritty comb. Dabbing some tea tree oil behind the ears is meant to deter nits too, they don't like the smell.

You can get/make a repellant spray, I'd do that. They'll become immune to the shampoo if you use that all the tine

You can get nit resisting spray in conditioner, worth trying that?

I don't think it's possible for lice to become immune to Hedrin or Lyclear, the ones that work by suffocation. But they undoubtedly do become immune to the poison based ones like Full Marks.

The teacher at school has given me some neem oil? Has anyone used this?

Surely you need to be helping him comb his hair if he has lice? It's got to be hard doing your own head accurately

why don't you check him daily and use the treatment when he has them?

Headlice treatments are a total fad. They don't kill the eggs, and those eggs WILL hatch to become lice, which then will lay more eggs within days.

What you need to do is thoroughly comb through the hair with a tight-tooth nit comb and conditioner daily for at least 14 days to kill the cycle.
It's an absolute bugger, but the only sure way to know they have gone.

Forget expensive treatments, get 2 combs of ebay for a quid and get combing!

We always considered the shampoo etc to be for the benefit of the squeamish, the nit comb alone does the real damage, the shampoo just slows the adults down a bit

Even the new smothering solutions are unnecessary, regular use of the fine tooth comb is promoted above everything else, see NHS and all other non sales based advice.

Strangely I enjoy combing the little buggers out. It's almost as satisfying as squeezing blackheads on OH's back.

I use vinegar to get rid of the eggs. It's not a short cut, you still have do the combing. It dissolves the substance they secrete to stick the egg to the hair.

And olive oil mixed in with the vinegar kills them if they've hatched. If you want to try that then make sure he has his head leaning back and put a folded towel on his forehead. The vinegar will run down his face otherwise and you don't want it going in his eyes. Saturate his hair and scalp, wrap in a towel/plastic and comb out after 30 minutes.

They used to sell something called a RobiComb (pharmacies).Mild electrical impulse I think Battery operated and it kills the adults as well as combing out the eggs . My DD2 was always getting them (best friend had v thick curly hair .Mother a nurse, father a Dr They couldnt be a* d to get rid of them-its 20 years ago and it STILL annoys me ) Best thing I found . Vosene do a 3 in 1 shampoo with a nit control thing in it. I've always used it on the DC and they've never had nits. Fingers crossed it stays that way.
