The other week I saw an old school friend go past in a car being driven by a woman in her 40s. We waved at each other and in my head I thought 'oh, there's Nick and his Mum.'

A few minutes later I realised that as Nick and I are both 40 she was actually more likely to be his wife.

She has a cardboard cut out of niall in her bedroom and niall is apparently scared of birds, unlike snow white, because when he was a child he was attacked by a pigeon whilst he was on the toilet

I've often thought the great thing about ageing is that it's something you don't do on your own. You can go through bereavement, redundancy, divorce etc by yourself but with ageing, you'll have company which I find strangely comforting.

When I was 40 I went to a school reunion and OMG, the men had aged so much more than the men! The women were still glamorous, sexy, attractive but a lot of the men were unrecognisable. Many were bald or had badly thinking hair, which is very ageing and a lot had paunches or red and dehydrated skin. Saying that men age better than women is a fucking myth IMO, women tend to take better care of themselves and we are lucky to have lots of tricks up our sleeve we can use to make ourselves look better. Ageing is something that comes to all of us ( except Raquel Welch who looks absolutely amazing at the age of 72! Think she must have made a pact with the devil to look like that..)
