My Dd is in Y11 and is a hardworking girl who just gets on with her work. She always in the top 5 in class and is well regarded by staff and other pupils

Yesterday 2 boys from her year ( not her class) took her coursework book from the classroom and then burned it on their way home from school. One of these bright boys took a video of the burning.

There were rumours around school will day until eventually Dd realised it was her book. She is devasted at the lost coursework and school don't seem to have reacted at all .

I will of course be going in tomorrow

Besides trying to stop myself from skinning the little bastards hides what can I expect school to be doing ?

Very little is more satisfying than telling the parents of a scrote that the police are liaising with you over an incident.

Fallout4fan · 25/11/2015 08:06

Police all the way. I would do that before even contacting the school.
I don't understand why you want to hang back on that. They need to be punished and to know that what they have done is a criminal offence.

Ionacat · 25/11/2015 08:07

That's a horrible thing to happen.
You now need to create a polite and firm stink. It would be worth a two pronged approach, I would ask to speak to your daughter's teacher or head of department and find out exactly has gone missing. It depends on what has gone missing to whether your daughter would benefit from re-doing the work or whether the school will apply for special consideration for her. There is no point contacting the exam board as they will say the special consideration has to come from the school, there is a form to fill which has to be done by the teacher. In lots of cases, they will suggest that the work is re-done as deadlines aren't until May. However your daughter needs help and support with this, whether a day off timetable, photocopied notes etc.

These boys need to realise the consequences of their actions, in most schools inclusion/one or two days exclusion would be likely. If the meeting with the head doesn't go well, then ask for a copy of the complaints procedure and follow it to the letter and get everything backed up in writing.

HelloItsMeAgain · 25/11/2015 08:15

Make sure the Examinations Officer is involved as well - she/he may have more info about what can be done than the teacher.

StackladysMorphicResonator · 25/11/2015 08:56

Actually I think you're letting your DD down if you don't report this to the police. The school will be forced to take it seriously, and even if you eventually choose not to press charges, the little shits that did this as well as the others who laughed will think twice about doing anything like that again.

This goes beyond a school prank, it could have serious ramifications for your DD's exam results - the school naturally will want to minimise it, and you need to force them to take it seriously.

Flowers for you and your DD, this is really awful Sad

bumbleymummy · 25/11/2015 09:02

Your poor DD :( that's really horrible and yes, they definitely deserve severe punishments. Good luck with your meeting today Thanks

Francoitalialan · 25/11/2015 09:50

That's awful! Hope you get it sorted.

I had science coursework stolen in year 11, 7 years ago. I was one of the first to complete it and it was at a high grade.

Anyway the teachers at first was talking about me redoing it as the coursework never turned up and they searched the school. I don't think they wanted to look bad.

Arrange a meeting with the school, my nan who was my guardian did and kicked up a right stink and pointed out that none of this was my fault. If anything it was the teacher who left completed coursework unlocked. Anyway with guidance with the exam board I did not have to do it again, they looked at my other work and saw it was all at a high grade and numerous teachers had seen the coursework and that it was a high grade.

As for the boys, it should be taken seriously. They should be looking at some serious punishment.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 25/11/2015 10:27

I agree with the posters who say you should contact the police about this - I would definitely be doing so, if it was my child's coursework that had been destroyed.

I would also be contacting the school, to inform them that you are involving the police, and that you want a call from the school, before midday, to tell you exactly what steps they are taking to deal with the boys concerned, and to deal with the issue of the destroyed course work, with the exam board.

I would be making it clear that, whilst you understand that they have to investigate this matter, and that they may be waiting for a reply from the exam board, your dd is worrying herself grey about this, and the school should be keeping you up to date with their actions - even if this is just to tell you 'We have contacted the exam board, and explained the circumstances, and are awaiting their reply - if we do not hear within X-timeframe, we will be contacting them again'.

IguanaTail · 25/11/2015 13:42

The school is unlikely to tell you exactly what punishment the boys get because that is between them and their parents.

fuzzpig · 25/11/2015 13:47

Shock your poor DD. Awful. :(

Fyaral · 25/11/2015 18:56

Did you manage to speak to school?

Brioche201 · 25/11/2015 19:00

It sounds more as of it is her notes, rather than anythimg which is to ne aassessed.dont worry she will be able to photocopy another student's.not that that lessens what these morons did

RattieOfCatan · 25/11/2015 19:27

Oh that is awful!

Your poor DD, I can relate to how she feels at the moment, a teacher of mine lost a load of my ICT coursework in 2005/2006, two years worth of hand-done excel document designs. She blamed me, I got a D in ICT as I was told that I'd have to redo the lot within a few weeks which was impossible (and my mother never stood up for me as she's spineless). The teacher's assistant found my coursework in the back of the office during a clear out two years later Angry

I hope that things get sorted for you.

OhBigHairyBollocks · 25/11/2015 20:33

Hope you managed to speak to the school today OP
