AIBU?

To absolutely hate winter?

I don't mind the run up to Christmas as the lights and anticipation make it bearable, but January and February?? No! I have no energy and no mojo to make it better. I try so hard to make resolutions - read lots, go to the gym, declutter, plan new menus etc. but it never happens. All I want to do is hibernate.
I do love seeing snow fall (and then hate all the stress of driving in it), but mostly it is damp, dark, grey and cold.
It can't be right to hate a good chunk of the year? What is good about it?

not sure I need to justify a preference for one season over another

yeah exactly, my love of knitted things and roast pumpkin and cinnamon does not mean I don't also make the most of bikini time, salad and iced sparkling water in hotter countries whenever I can!

I don't mind winter. The run-up to Christmas is my favourite time of year. January and February are pretty bleak, but manageable for me. Love summer.

I used to live near the Equator and found the sameiness of the weather and the relentless 6am sunrises and 6pm sunsets far more oppressive.

I love winter. I don't understand how people in this country can't drive in a few mm of slush that we usually get, cold and crisp is fantastic weather and I get to spend 3 weeks skiing. You can snuggle up and it's much easier to warm up in cold than it is to cool down in the hot.

Autumn is the worst time of year for me. It's not nice and warm, it rains a lot, but it never gets properly cold and crisp.

I love both autumn and winter, I struggle to dress well in summer with varicose veins and foot problems so I hate skirts, shorts and sandals. I love getting back into boots and scarves. And I love all the things thedevil mentioned. I think the different seasons is one of the beautiful things about where we live Smile

I hate winter. I hate being cold, it hurts and I lose energy just trying to keep warm. I can't wear lots of layers as I can't take the weight. I spend months feeling cold and uncomfortable.

The one good thing is it kills spiders so they don't grow enormous.

Hate it for all the reasons mentioned but especially as we had no summer this year in the west of Ireland and winter here consists of storms and heavy rain.

I hate the way my skin dries out in winter and gets all itchy.

I wouldn't miss it one bit.

I love sunshine and light clothes and long days.

Every season has its charm.

Totally agree devil! And although we may all have a favourite season (or seasons), you need the contrasting ones to really appreciate it.

I'm not a winter fan either but I've grown to dislike it even more since I've had kids. I would happily stay inside hibernating for six months but I feel so guilty about not taking the kids out that it ruins any of the pleasures of winter for me. I just hate standing around in parks and playgrounds in cold grey weather. Ugh.

This is why I sacrifice having a nicely decorated house, so that I can go skiing for a week in early February to blow away the winter blues.

I like winter, I prefer the clothes, love Christmas, love skiing.

Not so keen on the wheezy chest I and the DCs get, but we do ok.

I like winter, I like all weather and especially the changing seasons

I find that changes in the weather stir up interesting memories and feelings

I love being outdoors in bad weather, I find it exhilarating (provided I am appropriately dressedWink )

It is manageble for us because we have DS's birthday at the end of Jan and go skiing in Feb half term (and love snow). Once we get back, it is almost March/Spring. It does help to have things to break it up and look forward to.

I also love winter, especially the coziness of it all - snuggling up in a rug on the couch in the dark with a hot chocolate etc. The snow everywhere, like a winter wonderland and yes I commute etc, I find the scenery in winter breathtaking.

Though I much prefer it in my home country where it rarely rains and a beautiful crisp days with frost in the mornings and the sun shines all day. Bloody freezing though!

The rain makes it utterly miserable though.

I also love summer, I like all seasons Grin

I hated winter so much I emigrated to Oz, to the sunniest city in the world no less. Winter here is like a UK summer, and I still hate it as houses here aren't built for cold winter nights so I'm still bloody freezing! But I can't really complain to much. It was the going to work and coming home in the dark that used to piss me off. And the freezing rain. And the relentless greyness. All of it really! I feel your pain and wish I could send you all a bit of sunshine.

I don't like wearing every piece of kit I own just to run a few miles though (preparing for morning Hmm) it's not as if I even warm up more than a few degrees. But that's why God created treadmills so once or twice a week I can attempt to break a sweat!

I hate being cold but I do quite enjoy just revelling in the misery of winter time Grin. I like being stood outside under a big hood and scarf with a hot drink and a fag, shivering and grumbling about how shit it is. My South American colleagues think this is "typical British" -we love to grumble!

What I hate most about a UK winter is the lack of a proper summer to balance it out. Grey and damp in winter, grey and damp in summer. Cold crisp winter days are great, as are warm and sunny summer ones, but they are both few and far between.

I lived in Germany for a couple of years. Not too disimilar northern European weather with a liberal dose of yearly grey, but each season was that bit more distinct. Summer actually happened for a couple of months at least and winter was colder, but less wet. Spring was particularly lovely.

Where I am now, Autumn is the best season. Warm, dry and sunny.

Lots of good things about the UK. The weather isn't one of them.

Definitely YANBU!

Live in Canada where there are four proper, definite seasons.

Winter is something else. Loads of snow, below minus ten for three months of the year. Snow tyres mandatory. Winter coat, boots, hat necessary at all times. Some days it's so cold you can't stand to be outside for more than ten mins though that's rare. Incredibly beautiful, sunny all the time, loads of fresh snow. Never known work or schools to close due to weather. Or public transport. Lots of fun at the weekend, but annoyingly slippy underfoot.

I really like it, but after three months I'm sick of bundling up, sick of stews, sick of wearing boots. Prefer it over the summers, it's plus 30 and humid.

Love the days up to Christmas, log fires, seasonal cooking, hot tea, hot chocolate, walking in crisp air. Hot chocolate from Starbucks after walking downtown at night.

Love the feeling of hibernation and don't feel obliged to go out, even though I promise myself to go to the gym. Prefer the clothes, don't like t-shirts etc. I feel better in myself when it's colder, I'm sure I've got Viking blood!

Absolutely detest getting up early, but in winter it's just inhumane. I hate it with a passion. Scraping the car sucks. Dry winter skin. Inévitable weight gain as I can't be bothered to do the gym and just want to eat apple crumble and beef stews.
