AIBU?

To absolutely hate winter?

I don't mind the run up to Christmas as the lights and anticipation make it bearable, but January and February?? No! I have no energy and no mojo to make it better. I try so hard to make resolutions - read lots, go to the gym, declutter, plan new menus etc. but it never happens. All I want to do is hibernate.
I do love seeing snow fall (and then hate all the stress of driving in it), but mostly it is damp, dark, grey and cold.
It can't be right to hate a good chunk of the year? What is good about it?

It's not the cold I hate as heating indoors and warm coats outside can protect you to a large extent. What I dislike about winter is the early darkness- going home in the dark from work especially.

Always have a trip somewhere in January or February, even if only for three or four days, as something to look forward to. Growing up I was very fortunate to have a grandmother who lived a distance away and so had school half-term visiting her.

We're in Québec, Moose, it's positively bloody tropical at the moment!

Snow tomorrow though, then well below zero next week. Never seen it less than around minus 30 though.

I haven't read the rest of the thread but I used to absolutely hate winter but now after hitting the menopause I LOVE IT. I'm even £100+ in credit with my energy suppliers thanks to hot flushes Grin and the fact that I can't bear to have the heating on.

lorelei you are obv a kindred spirit. There IS such a thing as bad weather and it's called the British and irish climate (and I suspect we irish have it even worse her than in England, possibly the scots weather is even worse than ours God help em!

Loving the fact that it's so mild on a night the bedroom temp only dropped by one degree this morning.

Report
Dowser · 19/12/2015 12:11

Hey support group! I don't think we are doing too badly at the moment. Temps have been an encouraging 12-15 degrees this week.
I can cope with that.

Apart from the people who were flooded out of their homes, which is an ongoing nightmare for them , I could cope with a winter no worse than this.

It's not cold as such but blooming windy. I wore a pinafore dress with jumper underneath, cardi on top and a down jacket. Sometimes I put acoat ontop of that lot.

Aslip and a dress and boots and 100 den stockings. When it's really bad I wear the primark plush ones.

Lilifer "And i really really hate people who say there is no such thing as bad weather, just bad/not enough warm clothing. Bollocks to that! How many layers can one person be expected to wear? "

are you referring back to my comment earlier or did you just say that naturally? In which case, we're meant to be friends Grin

I even had one remarkably stupid person tell me that if I went out in really shitty weather, for a walk, I was bound to feel better when I got home because I'd be so relieved.

Thanks Lorelei is good to know im not alone in this winter misery!

I will try this vitaminD thing but have my doubts.

Also, i love to go out for a walk every day but the lashing rain and driving wind has meant no walks for me this last 3 weeks which probably doesnt help the mood.

And i really really hate people who say there is no such thing as bad weather, just bad/not enough warm clothing. Bollocks to that! How many layers can one person be expected to wear? I refuse to force myself outdoors for exercise when to struggle against the elements which clearly have it in for me.

Im just not cut out for this climate.

I'm definitely buying vitamin D tomorrow, it's gotta be worth a try! I did make myself go straight to the gym after work/chores, instead of dithering about though. I feel much better for it!

I've had 2 days of vitamin D. I feel very cheerful but that might be the wine I've opened! (Not used to midweek drinking but DS struck lucky on the school Christmas fair tombola. Cheers)

Lilifer, I'm treating this as the support group, you have my sympathies
it's so useful to have a moan!

I bloody hate winter, which lasts about 6 months here in northern ireland.

Grey grey grey, wet days for months on fucking end.

There should be a support group on here for all of us.

Would leave this country in an instant but not an option for me, for a long long time, if ever.

I always feel like I'm about 103 in winter
I was meant to be out tonight but cancelled. I feel bad because I said wasn't feeling well, which is sort of true in that I had to take paracetamol etc, but it was partly because the event wasn't starting till 8.30, I finish work at 6 and couldn't even face reading in my office while waiting and then couldn't face getting home late.... Just needed to get home, feel downright shattered for no reason.

Not sure what bit of Canada toffee lives in, but -10 is quite warm in this bit. Winter is arriving late this year. We've had a couple of inches of snow. The sky is blue and I can see the sun, but it's currently -18 with the wind chill.
Schools don't close although outside play stops. Traffic doesn't grind to a halt (although some idiots still can't drive in it).
Usual temperatures in Jan/Feb are -30. Got to -48 at one point with the wind chill. My DH still goes out running!

Mmmm that would cheer me up. Momentarily until I felt sick I suppose.

It says nothing on the packet about children taking it, I am not sure if I should get a separate version for them but as it was on 3 for 2 I have sooooo much standard stuff it seems a bit wasteful to buy one 'for kids' if I don't need to.

G1Vemestrength "I bought vitamin D tablets yesterday instead of a chocolate advent calendar!!

Apparently you should take a dose of at least 700."
damn it, for a minute there I thought you meant 700 chocolates a day. Grin

do give it a bash. I've upped from 1000 to 5000 this year. Bizarrely I am not sure if it helps but my perception is off because I was really ill for a chunk of autumn/winter last year and actually couldn't go out. Weirdly it appears to have knocked my memory of the previous winter!! Anyhoo, at least it was winter so I wasn't ill and missing summer - that would be sad.

Love winter. Woke up to this this morning and was delighted. :) If it lasts til April again I'll be put out, though.

I don't like summer...so hot and sticky.
