AIBU?

To think new-ish boyfriend acted in a vile fashion when in bed?

So I have been seeing someone for the past few months. It has been going pretty well, have taken things slowly (ish). We don't live together and both have our own places. I was staying at his house for a few days recently as we both had time off work and an "incident" when were in bed has really pissed me off so in the middle of sex he basically lets rip with a massive stinking fart and proceeds to laugh about it, not in an embarrassed "oh shit, I'm sorry" laugh but genuinely thinking it's funny and making stupid comments, it was so bad I basically had to open window and then take myself to the bathroom, needless to say the mood was over for me. Then he starts acting stupid "why are you upset, couldn't help it, dodgy food" and that I am being "up-tight". FFS we are mid 30s and he was giggling like a teenage boy would when in a group of mates.

So AIBU to think this was totally unacceptable? TBH I think it showed a lack of respect and hardly conducive to me wanting to shag him any time soon.

In fact only tonight my 8-yr old DD got a telling off for lifting up her leg and farting loudly, and then laughing. I was fuming. I can't help it.

Unclutch your pearls and your sphincter, you sound like a total buzzkill. You CAN help it.

OpenDoorArsehole and Justmuddlingalong thanks for the laughs Grin

30 years and multiple parters here.

Never happened, and it would turn me right off.

When DH and I first got together he farted at the same time that he came. It was maybe the 2nd time he'd stayed at mine. He has IBS and just had no control at that moment. He looked mortified, i was so suprised I laughed. It hasn't happened since because he does what Sugar21's ex did and will leave the room mid shag.

It would be his reaction more than the fart itself (though I believe most people can avoid doing it there and then). Definitely get rid. He sounds extremely unattractive.

Farts happen. I don't understand either the 'omg end of the world mortified' reaction or the 'find it hillarious for thirty mins' reaction really.

If it happened to me in a sexy bed situation I'd probably giggle a bit because of the comedy timing, but someone finding it ongoingly hilarious would just make me think they were a bit simple, for want of a better term.

Do none of you people Fanny fart? Sex with the average MNer sounds like a right uptight affair if this thread is anything to go by.

I've farted during sex. DH has farted during sex.

I won't presume to tell you whether you need to find it funny or not.

But it does happen.

He could have been laughing because he was actually embarrassed. I've laughed when embarrassed, and it certainly wouldn't occur to me to apologize over a fart I had no control over. Apologizing is reserved for when you are actually at fault for something you could have reasonably prevented, like bumping into someone.

Like I said, I fart a lot. I can't help it. If I hold one in I get awful wind pains. I fart countless times an hour.

It's not a big deal here. My husband is so used to it. BUT I would not make a song and dance about it. I don't think it's the farting that is the problem, but his reaction. Making stupid comments and laughing hysterically? I would think he's a bit stupid. A quick laugh and an 'excuse me' is all that is needed. Anything else is OTT. The farting itself would be fine, his reaction, not so much.

There is laughter due to embarrassment, and laughter because you think it is hysterically funny. Farts can be funny yes, but the OP clearly pointed out his laughter was not done in an embarrassed way, but because he thought he was really funny and he was giggling like a teenaged boy. That is not the reaction I would like from someone in a new relationship doing a really smelly fart in bed.

I am not uptight in bed. Noises happen and we laugh them off, but we don't act like teenagers over it.

The fart itself may well have been an accident, but his reaction was juvenile in the extreme which would have put me off completely.

I like how people think your partner refusing to fart in front of you is respecting you.

I can fart in front of dh and still respect him.

You can't like him very much if you're willing to dump him that quickly over one stinky trump. Get over it OP.

I don't find farts funny, they are gross, it's air from someone's colon perfumed with shit particles, how is that funny?

If a bloke farted during sex, by accident, laughed in an embarrassed way and carried on, I'd do the same. Anyone can have a slip up. But the OP's fella seems to have made a big production of farting, made no effort to hold it in an acted as if it's hilarious and the op is wrong for not finding it so. That would put me off so much. I wouldn't necessarily dump for that if it was a few months in but a month in? He'd be gone. It's disrespectful.

Meh, dh and I fart in front of each other all the time, we've been together ten years.

Do shit particles actually come out your bum when you fart? I'm not convinced. Have there been any scientific experiments into this?

That's how you smell anything, WhoTheFuck - shit, or anything else. Molecules of that thing attach to receptors in your nose.

I don't think he necessarily did anything wrong but it would have put me right off him so I wouldn't blame you if you didn't feel like shagging him again.

My husband and i fart all of the time, but luckily we try not to do it during sex, i wouldn't be put off him if he did though. I think they bigger problem is you don't fancy him enough, if farting puts you off him chances are the attraction wasn't that strong in the first place.

Okay - thanks for the wide range of views and er experiences (Confused) in this area and I'm glad I managed to give some people some laughs anyway!

I just wanted to say again, it wasn't an embarrassed "oh crap, sorry broken, god what have I eaten" laugh it wasn't almost like "okay I need to fart I will force it out as violently as possible, hey I'm sure broken will find this hilarious" followed by stupid comments you would expect from an episode of men behaving badly along the lines of "better out than in hey!"

To carry on shagging would have needed a bloody gas mask tbh hence my opening the window and going to the bathroom for air.

And then getting called up-tight as I wasn't howling with laughter and didn't feel like resuming sex, I just thought it was rude and horrible.

Anyway as someone said maybe his ex girlfriends DID find this hilarious, as a few who posted on here thought like that.

I'll will have a world anyway and just stress the "humour"wasn't appreciated. Who would have thought that farting is (another Sad) compatibility issue, as if there isn't enough already when looking for a DP!

I think your reaction to the situation was entirely normal Broken. If being offended by someone purposely farting loudly and finding it hilarious during sex makes me uptight then I'm happy to be so.

I'll join you on the uptight bench. My farts are vile. I don't expect my partner to feel like shagging me if I let one of those fuckers go. Vice versa. I've never let rip in front of him and I have yet to spontaneously combust.

My husband and I are genuinely LOL'ing at this thread. Grin

I have profound and complex bowel issues which means I fart sometimes and I genuinely can't help it!

He still loves me
