Breeders should be forced to be licenced.
I'm sick of seeing these so called new breeds. It's just pure greed.

It's to stop dog fight organisers to use them as bait to fire up the fighting dogs.

I'm not sure I agree with the fact that they are in a pre-loved site but that's bloody stupid money I didn't pay much more for my pedigree working dog!!!

It's very big business for puppy farms. Dh delivered some farm machinery to one (had no idea it was a puppy farm) and said it was appalling, was the worst place he'd ever been, and that's from a farmer who is not especially fond of dogs. The little bitches (pugs and jack russells) were piled up in crates, and there were a couple of mangey poodle stud dogs hanging around. The owner boasted he got a pedigree litter a year from each pug, then further cross litters, the pedigrees he sold for £1500 each, crosses up to £700. I guess he had a network of people pretending to be genuine breeders selling the pups. There was another shed with the spaniel bitches in, but DH didn't see inside that one.

We reported this breeder, but as we're no in the same county don't know what happened.

I paid a lot less for my pedigree, working, Labrador but those puppies do bring out my maternal side.

If someone wants to pay that amount then the breeder would be an idiot not to take it. Mongrel or not. Why the snobbishness? And why do you care? I spent far more on a kitchen table.

People charge on the selling sites partly to stop cheap dogs being bought to be involved in fighting.

Not saying I agree at all with dogs being sold this way.

In terms of how much people pay- why are we so fascinated by that? I don't understand people spending 30k on a car, or 10k on a holiday, there are people that wouldn't understand me spending £100 on a handbag or jacket when I could go to primark... a dog is a dog and if its worth £1000 to you and you can afford it then its worth it.

I'm far more concerned with whether you see it with mum in clean safe surroundings and aren't going to be selling it in two months when you realise a puppy (whatever breed!) is hard work under the pretense of "work commitments" or "unexpected pregnancy".

The actual cost of breeding a bitch is much the same veterinary care, time, feed, equipment wise whatever the breed surely, so crossbreeds are no cheaper in that sense?

Kennel Club are no better for promoting animal welfare afaik. I really don't like these designer dogs doing the rounds just now, where there's money to be made, welfare always has the potential to be compromised.

My dog's a jack russell/staffy - bred by idiot backstreet breeders who got a litter of 7 and failed to sell one, so they all ended up in rescue. Obviously the fools who bred her should have called the pups 'jaffies' - they'd have sold.

There were two other crossbreed litters - one a litter of 10 GSD/I forget what crosses, brought in within a fortnight of my dog.

Apparently lots of these labradoodles are ending up in rescue because idiots buy them thinking they are 'non shedding' like poodles - but of course, with one parent who sheds like a bastard and the other who doesn't, it's only a 50% chance of getting a non shedding dog. So they get them home, only to discover they have a shedding dog.

If you want a 'designer' dog - there are plenty in rescue and will be increasing numbers if this fad continues.

I have a staffacolador and he only cost me £120 neutered and with all his immunisations done. Bargain!

Maybe they think they are cute? I don't get how it's worse than spending £450 on a non mongrel dog, but I'm not a dog person and I find the whole 'breed standard' thing slightly creepy.

I certainly didn't pay stupid money for my dog but he was more than what we wanted to pay, but it meant more to me that he was bred by a couple who treated their dogs like family. The bitch wasn't pushed to have another litter as soon as she'd had the previous one and they did everything properly including findings a suitable stud dog. We were careful in the breed we picked (although I know this doesn't always make a difference) and the environment he was bought up in as our daughter was young.
He's a fantastic working dog and very much part of our family so I don't regret paying that much for him

These threads always lead to people frothing at the mouth over "LABRADOODLES ARE MONGRELS AND ANYONE WHO SAYS OTHERWISE IS AN IDIOT!" (pretty sure that was a direct quote from the last thread on the subject, or near enough... )

I think they're kind of cute, in a weird way. I wouldn't spend £450 on any dog when there's so many mongrels/crossbreeds/labradoodles/schnoodles/colladors/whatever in rescues, and I personally think that pedigree owners are bloody selfish for encouraging dog breeding, but hey - we're all entitled to our opinions

Oh its fucking ridiculous isn't it. An owner proudly brought her litter of puppies into work the other day, i enquired as their breed "oh the mum is a maltichon (bichon x maltese) and the father is a toy poodle cross". My friend was looking for a puppy of that "type" so i enquired as to the price £600 I shit you not!!! I was sooo tempted to say "is that £100 per breed". But honestly, its ridiculous.

Now one might argue that what is the difference between a pedigree dog and one of these crosses. They are all lovely after all.

Well, with the price tag that comes with a pedigree dog you are hopefully (not always sadly) paying for a breeder with lots of experience and knowledge. A breeder that has chosen her parents well, from lines of dogs that have minimal congenital defects and illnesses. That has bred from lines of dogs with good temprements.

What you are getting with these crossbreeds is invariably back yard breeders who think its a money spinner to breed their shih tzu bitch with the jack russel down the road and calling the puppies "jack shit" or such like. You are encouraging back yard breeding and getting ripped off in the process.

And sorry, yes, anyone no matter how well meaning who puts their bitch through pregnancy to sell on the puppies is a backyard breeder.

Saying that, don't get me started on breeders of bulldogs etc...

Now the Labradoodle, actually lovely dogs and i can see the point of those, a non shedding dog in a family that has allergies can be (CAN be not always) the difference between being able to have a dog and not and maybe a poodle isn't best suited to family life so the labradoodle was a pretty good idea and i think will eventually become and established breed. Its just a shame people have jumped on the bandwaggon with all of this these other "breeds".

The trouble is, all the while someone is willing the pay £££ for these puppies someone is going to breed them.

Got a lovely cross-breed for free... No idea why these breeds are so sought that people pay so much when there are so many perfectly good dogs in rescue centres. I don't get it.

We wouldnt have breeds if dogs were allowed to mate naturally. Plenty of pedigrees with built in faults, so suffering for the ideal look. DF dog has a slight overbite, and therefore cost less.
I think there is snobbery in dog breeds, a dog is a dog, they all need homes, love and warm. A mongrel is not less worthy.
