To think no one cares who the song 'You're so vain' was written about?

Honestly I think I may be a bit unreasonable but It's not a mystery everyone is dying to find out or are they??
The way it's wrote about in the media it's the greatest unsolved mystery we must find out.
One guy paid a load of money to find out who Carly Simon wrote the song about but was sworn to secrecy and now he must be incredibly pissed off as Carly Simon has said one verse of the song is about Warren Beattie after previously swearing she would never say.
But now apparently has 'let slip' the song is about 3 men and not just 1.
I think she is making up the 3 men now to cause more 'mystery'.
Does anyone care who the song is about?

Well. There's a cross post.

Sorry you are having a hard time OP. Mumsnet has got very aggressive lately Flowers

SarahSavesTheDay · 20/11/2015 10:14

OP Flowers

The song is about Warren Beatty.

ghostyslovesheep · 20/11/2015 10:17

I'm sorry you are having a bad time Fantasy [flower]

but with the best will in the world people on an internet forum are not responsible for your mental health and if you find negative comments triggering maybe try not to be so aggressive?

It's quiet shitty to post things designed to make other people feel shitty for things they have said online while you have been arguing quiet forcefully with them x

partialderivative · 20/11/2015 10:18

Fantasyland If you have the issues that you mention, then the last thing you should be doing is posting on AIBU.

Surely you will have noticed that responses can be quite 'robust' at times.

You cannot expect other posters to mind-read you. I do not feel you have received any particularly offensive comments

Fantasyland · 20/11/2015 10:26

I'm arguing with posters as I didn't see the need for them to tell me my thread was pointless.
Surely im able to respond to peoples comments?
Aren't they aggressive for saying something like that in the first place?
Why are they able to say something I feel is quite nasty and im not able to respond and im the aggressor?

Partial no I don't expect other people to mind read and you may not find the comments offensive but I do

@ Fantasy

Maybe you should try some of the other boards in MN, such as 'chat'. People are less aggressive in there. Smile

PaulAnkaTheDog · 20/11/2015 10:44

Op sorry you've had a rough time but you started a fairly light thread, people disagreed with you. No one was rude, aggressive or nasty. We aren't mind readers, we can't assume that everyone has some history that means they could get upset by fairly tame posts. Sorry if upset you though.

ScrambledSmegs · 20/11/2015 10:47

So Warren Beatty thinks the whole song is about him? He would Grin

Tbh there are a lot of young men who could have had that song written about them. My brother was one of them. It's a great song, I've always liked songs with a bit of a story/mystery to them.

Actually, talking of mysteries, who killed Mary, and was Richard Marx ever going to write Hazard part 2?

ScrambledSmegs · 20/11/2015 10:48

Oh cripes, is this in AIBU?

Fantasyland · 20/11/2015 10:49

I can't believe I've been called aggressive for challenging people who said I shouldn't have posted.

So it's ok to make a negative comment on a thread but not ok to challenge someone for it.

That makes me aggressive for responding.

OP posts:
PaulAnkaTheDog · 20/11/2015 10:51

I don't think that poster meant it in a nasty way. Reread her comment, she was trying to help and explain to you how your comments were provoking the reaction you didn't like.

Fantasyland · 20/11/2015 10:52

Which poster Paul as there was a few?

OP posts:
howtorebuild · 20/11/2015 10:54

Flowers I am sure the aibu lesson is learned.

PaulAnkaTheDog · 20/11/2015 10:59

There was not a few, only one person called you aggressive, ghosty. They did so with the best of intentions.

Newlife I didn't realise you were in charge of what is worthy of a thread. In future I will run all future threads by you first. Hmm

Comments like that come across as aggressive/unnecessary. You might not realise it when you type it but it does. People will respond negatively.

momb · 20/11/2015 11:01

The song is about me. I do think this, there's no need to bet.

ScrambledSmegs: indeed, who killed Mary in Hazard, but also, what did they throw off the Tallahatchie Bridge in Ode to Billie Jo?

ghostyslovesheep · 20/11/2015 11:03

No you aren't aggressive for responding Confused I didn't say that - I said some of your response where aggressive and argumentative - which is not a huge deal unless you then accuse people of doing the same

anyway I will leave you to it - I hope you things get better for you x

PaulAnkaTheDog · 20/11/2015 11:04

Sorry ghosty I wasn't meaning you were aggressive, just trying to highlight what you had meant to the op.

absolutelynotfabulous · 20/11/2015 11:06

I care. I also get the "apricot" angst.

Great song, great songwriter. (shows age).

PaulAnkaTheDog · 20/11/2015 11:06

Arghh! I wasn't meaning you were saying the op was aggressive. Missed out words in my other post. Blush

Fantasyland · 20/11/2015 11:08

Paul but that was in response to an unnecessary comment.

I would be horrified if I upset someone but it seems people go out of their way to upset people.
Yes I was stupid to fall for the baiting but I think people should be challenged on how they make people feel.

I'm going to leave the thread now as it doesn't matter what I say it will be pulled apart .

OP posts:
Preminstreltension · 20/11/2015 11:09

pointless post to say I love this song! Mick Jagger's voice is so distinctive you can't miss it on the backing vocals.

PaulAnkaTheDog · 20/11/2015 11:14

If you post a thread you are inviting comments, be they positive or negative. You are looking for opinions. It looks aggressive when you decide to respond to those going against your opinion, in quite a confrontational manner.

Anyway, I hope you haven't been put off for life OP. Smile

PaulAnkaTheDog · 20/11/2015 11:18

Additionally, it's not your place to challenge people on how they make people feel. No one was nasty. Your personal issues mean you don't take negative comments well. No one knew that and no one should have to forever change the way they post, just in case it might upset someone. The site would be non-existent in that case.

Owllady · 20/11/2015 11:19

I thought it was about Paul McCartney

Fight amongst yourselves ladies

howtorebuild · 20/11/2015 11:19
