It's giving me the rage to see this on fb and Twitter I totally disagree, wtf have I got friends who think this is ok? Grrrr

OP posts:
JamNan · 17/11/2015 12:57

I despair. I haven't seen it yet maybe because the four arsewipes that would have posted that sort of nonsense have been culled from my FB. I had to give my Daily Fail-reading Mam a stern talking-to though. Hmm

Fantasyland · 17/11/2015 12:58

Whilst I don't agree with the statement of ' close our borders to stop terrorism' people have the right to voice their opinion.

It's fine to disagree with someone over an opinion but the extent to which people are reacting to people having their say is basically just calling them uneducated or stupid.
What happened to debating without resorting to insults?

IcecreamBus · 17/11/2015 13:03

People have the right to share their opinion. I have the right to not have to be bombarded with such rubbish. My unfriend button has had a lot of use lately.

ExConstance · 17/11/2015 13:07

My brother posted this on facebook today, together with another saying "Enoch was right". I can't really un-friend him, we don't get on very well but at least share dog related stuff on FB. I reported both items as racist and offensive, they probably won't agree but I felt I had to do something.

Ilikedmyoldusernamebetter · 17/11/2015 13:18

Hot I don't think people mean the child evacuees moved from cities to countryside within the same country when they talk about WW2 refugees, they mean things like the mass expulsion of Polish and Jewish people from Poland by both Germany and the Soviet Union, as well as Estonians, Latvians and Lithuanians - was certainly in the millions.

My FIL was born in a refugee camp after his mother fled what was then Poland...

GiddyOnZackHunt · 17/11/2015 14:36

Hot I suspect whether or not people stay will depend on a number of factors. How well they get on in the UK, how long they are here before they could go home, what there is to go home to, what the resolution of the war brings, that sort of thing.
If someone has no family left in Syria, no home and doesn't like the political landscape after the war, but has got a job, friends and a home here then I guess they're more likely to stay. On the other hand people may feel that they want to go back to rebuild or just want to be home no matter what.
It also depends on the basis on which they are given permission to be here. They may have conditions that require them to leave once the war is over.

Hotpatootietimewarp · 17/11/2015 14:59

giddy thanks for that answer, those are some very good points you make thank you

Aeroflotgirl · 17/11/2015 15:04

YAbVU people are entitled to their views, yes Paris and Kenya and Beiruit are very worrying, especially when you hear terrorists disguised as refugees. I do hate the amount of Britain First stuff shared on Facebook, excuse to be racist.

ArmchairTraveller · 17/11/2015 15:17

Well. despite the poem on the Statue of Liberty that has already been quoted, many American states no longer agree, and have stopped taking Syrian refugees.
www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-34835353
Likewise, Farage is banging on about a Fifth Column in our midst, and how we ought not to allow any more in to put down roots and flourish, raising home-grown terrorists.
It's scary that a party and opinions that would have been laughed at a couple of years ago are now attracting ordinary citizens who are terrified and feel that he's talking sense.

MagratGarlikAgain · 17/11/2015 16:18

It is still not proven that the terrorist was a Syrian refugee. It is suspected the passport was planted. Story in the independent:

www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/paris-terror-attacks-ahmed-almuhameds-passport-may-have-been-planted-by-terrorists-a6735476.html

In general, (not specific to Paris, of course) it seems that we have more to worry about from British-born terrorists, in particular those who have converted to Islam. It also seems from what I've read that few are religious fanatics as such, but are often relative novices in their understanding of the faith. This is from what I've read about typical profiles.

IMHO, closing the borders will help to limit movement of everyone, but will not help if the threat comes from within.

IrritableBitchSyndrome · 17/11/2015 17:15

Gruntled oh please start that petition. Can't wait to share & sign!

I was chatting to a taxi driver who picked me up earlier. He was Muslim (he answered his phone with a Muslim greeting, at least, during the journey.) I asked him if he knew a good electrician locally. He said, yeah, but only Asian ones.I was Hmm Is that a problem? He looked a bit surprised and said 'Well, no, it just depends what you want.' I said 'Um, a good electrician who doesn't charge unreasonable amounts?'. He very happily gave me a number and a very surprised guy answered and said he would love to come out and quote. I found this really really weird. Why on earth would I not want an Asian or Muslim electrician? Am I missing something here? Seems sad if they assume I wouldn't want to use their services because I'm not Asian/Muslim. Are they victim to so much prejudice that they only get business from other Asians? If so that's awful.

BeyondThirty · 17/11/2015 20:41

Oo, look what i just spotted on facebook Grin

gingerdad · 17/11/2015 20:43

Defreinded a number of people over this one

SideOrderofChips · 17/11/2015 20:50

*The UK has only one open border, and that is with ROI (also non-Schengen).

Widespread misunderstanding being displayed.*

Actually you do not need a passport to travel between the Channel Islands and the UK mainland either. We are also non-Scengen as well.

chumbler · 17/11/2015 20:50

I report these posts. Not because fb will do anything about it (they won't) but so that my "friend" will know someone (it's anon to report) thinks they're a dick and that not everyone appreciates their shit

kinkytoes · 17/11/2015 20:52

Does it really matter? Different people have different opinions about lots of stuff. This reminds me of the post election discussions when people disowned friends who voted differently.

There won't be enough signatures on that petition to mean anything anyway.

f1fan2015 · 17/11/2015 21:09

petition signed Smile

Fantasyland · 17/11/2015 21:29

Exactly kinky toes, surely you can't defriend everyone who disagrees on one topic with you? You would have no friends!

OnTheEdgeToday · 17/11/2015 21:33

Peoples thoughts, views and opinions do not change someones personality. You are only hearing their thoughts, views and opinions because of the current circumstances. They are not much different to how they were a few weeks ago when you had no issue with said people. The only time i would question a friendship over their views, would be if they tried forcing them onto me.

Shinyhappypeople9 · 17/11/2015 21:45

I think if people feel that then they should be able to express
It. Nowadays you can't say anything without being labelled.

ReallyTired · 17/11/2015 21:51

Sometimes social media shows a person's dark side that they will not show in real life. I don't mind the odd stupid post, but someone who is racist on a regular basis is not someone I want to associate with.

MagratGarlikAgain · 17/11/2015 22:32

I only discovered that someone I knew (and thought was a nice person) was a BNP supporter because of Facebook Shock. Completely changed my opinion of them. I'd never have thought this person would hold those kind of views.
